Atrium SSO and CAC Authentication

2011-10-18 Thread John Baker
Guillaume,

You make a very valid point. Marketing, and Matt L, believe BMC have a
competent SSO solution suitable for the enterprise. At this point in
time, they do not, and I suspect senior management have no idea that
AtriumSSO is an open source solution (OpenSSO) killed off by Oracle.

I was contacted by someone from a large US oil company who was given the
run around by BMC over SSO. After approaching Google, the person
discovered the same senior product manager who said, We know of no
other solution, had been posting to ARSlist and knew of SSO Plugin. The
person made his feelings known to BMC after discovering he could deploy
SSO Plugin in the space of an hour, and the license cost was far cheaper
than bringing BMC consultants on site. And we gained another client.

John,

According to what I have read OpenSSO will continue to be developed and
supported by ForgeRock under the name of OpenAM.

Do we really care if it is Oracle or ForgeRock that carries it forward?

Working with Service Offering Options

2011-10-18 Thread Mark Twain
Hi Listers,
we have implemented an Atrium Service Catalog also with service offerings and
requestable services and options.
Further this, we are using Service Request Management 7.6.04, where users can
order the services.
The challenge is to use Atrium Service Catalog Data within the Service Request
Definition.
I have created a Service and a Service Offering. This Service Offering has an
option with 4 choices. How can I use this option choices from the Atrium
Service Catalog for my SRD?

Sounds like you had better luck than I. I started running the SP2 installs on

Virus Scan Verification 7.6.04

2011-10-18 Thread Sanford, Claire
We are setting up the virus scan worksheets for our new system. I need to get
some clarification.

When we have the virus scanning system scan a drive it really slows things down
and drags things out. With what kind of frequency do you scan your application
/ midtier servers. Do you scan the entire server?

What kind of exclusions do you make?

We have one drive set up as the OS drive and the other drive set up as the
App drive on all the servers.

Thank you!

Re: XQSR.ARDB.TWITTER

2011-10-18 Thread Axton
HTTP 401 was returned, meaning that you did not authenticate on the Twitter
side.
Looks like your plugin is trying to use HTTP BASIC authentication and the
Twitter site is saying this is not supported.

Look at the configuration for the plugin and see if there are other ways to
configure the authentication it tries to use against Twitter.

Hi All,

I need to count the number of characters in a field, place the number in
another field and then run workflow based on the number. Can’t come up with the
right function combination. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Don't you think it would be cool to have it automatically tweet I just
submitted a ticket for a broken printer when a Service Desk rep submits an
incident?

All kidding aside I have heard some people talk about having private
twitter accounts (if you trust twitter to keep your info private) where a
major incident or system notification can be blasted out to people
authorized to subscribe to the feed.

How about Broadcasts?

How many of us actually look at that box in the top right corner of a

That’s the only real useful example I can think of.

2011-10-18 Thread Amey Bhosale
Hi Danny,

Thanks for the details but i checked in my system and below are the findings :-

1.    CAI Plugin is running.
2.    AR.CFG file has got this entry : Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARF.CAI
REMEDY.ARF.CAI servername.domain:
3.    CAI Plugin Registry form – there are no records in this form.
4.    CAI:Events there are no records with error status.

Please let me know your inputs on the same.

Hi,

We have started to see this in the last few weeks too. But only on People
Permission validation so far. The others are ok.

Start by checking the CAI Plugin is running and configured correctly. I believe
in your version it is still a C plugin so this should be in your ar.cfg(conf)
as a .so I can not remember the correct name of it as we are on 7.6.04 and its
now java.

Then check the CAI Plugin Registry form has entries and that the RCP port you
have actually exists with enough threads.

Then check the CAI:Events form for any that are stuck with status = error. I
have not got to the bottom of this yet  but I am starting to lead towards there
is a problem record that I am trying to validate and the CAI plugin is getting
stuck.

Kind regards
Danny

Hi All,

We are facing with an issue in Data Management Tool (7.6.03) where the records
get stuck when doing the validation step.

It continues to show the record in Pending Status of being validated but no
further action happens.I searched the record in DLD:Thread Form where the entry
gets created and further also in the DLD:Action Form.

As per my understanding the record from DLD:Thread DLD:Action Form should get
deleted when the validation is completed.

I have seen some post regarding this issue seen where the solution given was to
delete the record from DLD:Thread DLD:Action Form and restart the validation
process but it didnt work for me.

Can someone help me with the same ?

Regards,

Amey

aradmin and password (put in the password). mine was default for aradmin
however it did not like it when I got to the page that asked for the system
password it says the aradmin password was wrong (you would think that was
already done).. so if you go back 4 - 5 steps and put in the aradmin and
password, then as you move forward : bang it knows the rest and does it (fairly
intelligent). Strange but it went through the install without a hitch..
I have not see anything like this in a while.. have not tested fully.. but

The rik.err error was:

Software\BMCRemedyITSMSuite\ITSMT01\Workflow\install\7.6.04_sp2_overlay_install\systems\fnd\workflow\en\.\fnd_deplapp.def)
import failed with error code (392) :- (Field/VUI name must be unique for the
form -- there is already a field or VUI using this name)

Since there are almost 300 forms in that def file, I'm going to let BMC figured
out what they did wrong. The only form I overlaid on the server is HPD:Help
Desk (one field, Reported Source was given Other as a Default value) and one of
the 7.6.04 upgrades added an overlay for HPD:HelpDesk_AuditLogSystem, and
neither of those is in the problematic def file.

Outgoing email address rejection list

2011-10-18 Thread Logan, Kelly
Going out to the email gurus -

I need to pull out standard email notifications to certain email addresses. I
have created a rejection list form and put in filters that check the 'To'
address of outgoing emails against this list. The mechanism I have tried so
far is to set the 'Send Message' field to No (0) and jumping to 999 to short
circuit any other processing. This workflow is running, 'Send Message' is set
to 0, and no other workflow in the filter log touches the field after that, yet
when I check the entry, 'Send Message' is set to Send (1). Note I am on ARS
7.1, patch 009.

Is there some background process associated with the Email Engine that is
interfering? Alternately, is there another mechanism I can use to prevent a
message from being sent during the submit? (Trying to catch it before then
would be significantly more difficult, involving multiple sets of code.)

Thank you in advance for your help,

Re: Outgoing email address rejection list

2011-10-18 Thread David Durling
I'm not a mail guru at all, but I have seen that issue with a message going out
even after I manually set 'Send Message' to No - maybe ARS 6.0 and perhaps
7.5, too. Sometimes I think it's a timing issue with the mail processing.

How about throwing an error on submit so a mail record isn't even created? Not
sure if that would interfere with processing the other mail you *do* want to
send or not. It would make me a little nervous, but perhaps others could
comment on whether that's a good solution.

 The rik.err error was:

 Definition File (D:\Program Files (x86)\BMC
 Software\BMCRemedyITSMSuite\ITSMT01\Workflow\install\7.6.04_sp2_overlay_install\systems\fnd\workflow\en\.\fnd_deplapp.def)
import failed with error code (392) :- (Field/VUI name must be unique for
the form -- there is already a field or VUI using this name)

Since there are almost 300 forms in that def file, I’m going to let BMC
figured out what they did wrong. The only form I overlaid on the server is
HPD:Help Desk (one field, Reported Source was given Other as a Default value)
and one of the 7.6.04 upgrades added an overlay for
HPD:HelpDesk_AuditLogSystem, and neither of those is in the problematic def
 file.

Re: Outgoing email address rejection list

2011-10-18 Thread Jason Miller
We had the same issue with trying to set Sent Message to No.

Here is what we do for our test environment where we don't want to spam
regular users. Unless the email address is whitelisted we tack the
address in the To: field on to the end of the subject and replace the To:
with the email address of an account created for these redirected messages.
We also have workflow to look at CC: and BCC: but I can't remember if it
just nulls them out or does the whitelist check also.

How about throwing an error on submit so a mail record isn’t even created?
Not sure if that would interfere with processing the other mail you **do**

I need to pull out standard email notifications to certain email
addresses. I have created a rejection list form and put in filters that
check the ‘To’ address of outgoing emails against this list. The mechanism
I have tried so far is to set the ‘Send Message’ field to “No” (0) and
jumping to 999 to short circuit any other processing. This workflow is
running, ‘Send Message’ is set to 0, and no other workflow in the filter log
touches the field after that, yet when I check the entry, ‘Send Message’ is
set to “Send” (1). Note I am on ARS 7.1, patch 009.

Is there some background process associated with the Email Engine that is
interfering? Alternately, is there another mechanism I can use to prevent a
message from being sent during the submit? (Trying to catch it before then
would be significantly more difficult, involving multiple sets of code.)**

AR System Server 7.1 Upgrade to 7.5 Issue

2011-10-18 Thread Jason Lander
Hi All,

I am currently performing an upgrade on a client's UAT AR System 7.1
environment. I've barely started, and I've already hit my first snag.

The client’s AR System 7.1 P6 Server is installed on a UNIX environment
(Solaris 10). The installation directory is /opt/remedy/product/7.0.

When I run the AR System 7.5 P7 installer, and enter the correct AR System 7.1
P6 Server installation directory, the next screen displays the following error,
“No features are selected to install”.

If you go back to the previous screen and change the installation directory to
/opt/remedy/product (or any other incorrect directory) it will allow you to
continue (as it obviously thinks it is a fresh install) up until the point
where you enter the AR System Server name. After selecting the server, I
receive a different error, “The current installation directory does not match
the server installed at /opt/remedy/product/7.0. Go back to the previous screen
and change the installation location for the AR System Server you want to
upgrade.”. This error proves that the installer does indeed know that the
installation directory is /opt/remedy/product/7.0 but for some reason, it just
can’t read in the products installed for it.

My guess is that it's due to a missing ARSystemInstalledConfiguration.xml file
from the previous install. The installer is probably trying to read in the
information from that file so that it knows what was previously installed.
Unfortunately none of the servers (not even the Productions servers) have this
so I cannot test this theory out.

Has anyone come across this issue before? If not, can anyone supply me with an
AR System Server 7.1 ARSystemInstalledConfiguration.xml file that I can hack
(and test my theory out with)?

Cheers,

J

Re: AR System Server 7.1 Upgrade to 7.5 Issue

2011-10-18 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
It sounds like you don't have rights to install to /opt/remedy/product/7.0
Was the original installed as root (or have you forgotten to do the export
ARNONROOTINSTALL=TRUE before running the installer?

7.1 did not have an installation XML file (The install was not XML based for
what to install).

When you select the server the installer reads the
/etc/arsystem/{servername}/armonitor.conf file to get the original path.

There should be an installation log file in /tmp or /usr/tmp that can give you
better info on what you are seeing

2011-10-18 Thread Jason Lander
Hi Fred,

Thanks for your reply.

The original installation was installed as root and the server still runs as
this. The upgrade is also being run as root.

Re the installation xml; that explains why there isn't one in 7.1!

I've already checked the installation log files and they don't allude to
anything unusual.

I've also logged a call with BMC Support so will see what they say :P
