Basically, the discussion was around how much actual ARS talent exists in NYC

Mark,
Not sure what missing, but one very quick fix, is custom filter
low execution order (0-10) that on a submit (outgoing) set send message to no
and go to 1000
(Another thought, since you disabled the mailbox, did you restart the email

Hi All,

Currently working on a OOB ITSM 7.6.04 implementation don't want to allow
outgoing email while users are getting familiar with it. I have disabled the
mailbox and all of the OOB notifications. Each day I go onto the ARS Email
Messages form and do a 'Create Date' > $DATE$ search on outgoing mail, there
are emails listed that Send Message: Sent and Date Sent: a date.

Really don't want to turn off the email engine if I don't have to do so. What
am I missing?

Thanks

I absolutely agree with that. That is why it is taking us so longer. We
are coming from Help Desk 6, custom CM / Asset (as of yesterday AR 7.6.04
SP4 from 7.5 p1). Translating the apps into ITSM has been a bit of a chore
people wise, politically, procedurally, financially.

I am very comfortable with v8. I am building a new ITSM 8 environment that
we'll hopefully go live with (it seems we build more environments that
don't get used i.e.ITSM 7.5, ITSM 7.6.04). We keep building the latest and
greatest waiting for the time our IT dept is ready to use some of it.
Maybe subconsciously that is why I am ok with the latest, because I deep

I don't think they are considering dropping support but are worried their
current version will not be supported before they are ready to upgrade.

Re: Baffled by outgoiong email

2012-11-29 Thread Pruitt, Christopher (Bank of America Account)
We wrote two scripts to stop and start the AR Email service. We discovered
that after setting the Email configuration Status to Disabled the emails were
still going out so we wrote a script that runs the following command to stop
the AR Email process on the server.

$REMEDY_DIR/AREmail/$HOST/emaild.sh stop

This would force it to read the current AR Email Configuration setting since
the Status was Disabled the emails were stopped from being sent out. We then
wrote another script that starts the AR Email after we set the Status to
Enabled. That script contains

$REMEDY_DIR/AREmail/$HOST/emaild.sh start

This restarted the AREmail process and causes it to read the current AR Email
Configuration setting and then start sending out the email messages again.

Hi Mark,

After disabling the mailbox, ideally it should stop all the notifications, but
after disabling the mailbox, make sure you restart the email engine. The
interval value in emaildaemon.properties file is in Minutes, and the default
value is 30 minutes, but after 30 minutes, it takes care of restarting the EE
thread if thread has died for some reason. Not sure it is going to check if any
mailbox is enabled or disabled. So it is good to restart EE after disabling the
mailbox.

hope this helps.

Re: BMC Support/EOL

2012-11-29 Thread Jlbess
I've worked in a few places that have cancelled support. Not a big deal except
if your NIC dies and you have to replace it. For VMs, make sure you have a
custom MAC and for physical machines, there are Mac spoofing apps that will let
you put in your old address.

Last time I checked, if you want to renew support within 2 years, you have to
back pay. After 2 years you have to rebuy the apps. I know columnIT provides
alternative support, if you need to renew down the road, compare the cost with
them.

Bottom line, if you don't use support and have no plans to upgrade in the next
5 years, you can save some money.

Matthew,
Going out of support can have many impacts. Depending on what your corporate
direction is, and the criticality of your system, your company may have a
policy that you MUST be up to date on patches/versions of software if for no
other reason than security. They typically seem to want someone to escalate an
issue to if a problem exists that is causing an outage. Neither of these would
be possible if you stay on your current version beyond the EOL.

Outside of that aspect of it, 7.5 was a stable version in general, and isn't
prone to crashing on a regular basis, so if you drop out of support, then you
aren't likely to have a system just dying on you regularily.

On a separate note though, BMC in the past has required you to basically 'pay
back rent' when you stop support, and then re-start at a later date...so the
general 'savings' don't end up materializing if that is the thought behind
potentially dropping support.

Not sure what missing, but one very quick fix, is custom filter
low execution order (0-10) that on a submit (outgoing) set send message to no

(Another thought, since you disabled the mailbox, did you restart the email

Hi All,

Currently working on a OOB ITSM 7.6.04 implementation don't want to allow
outgoing email while users are getting familiar with it. I have disabled the
mailbox and all of the OOB notifications. Each day I go onto the ARS Email
Messages form and do a 'Create Date' > $DATE$ search on outgoing mail, there
are emails listed that Send Message: Sent and Date Sent: a date.

Really don't want to turn off the email engine if I don't have to do so. What
am I missing?

Thanks

It would also depend if you want to leverage the new features introduced in the

Matthew,
Going out of support can have many impacts.

BMC Support/EOL

2012-11-29 Thread Moellmer, Matthew
Hello all,

I don't post a lot here but I do read a lot. Currently we are on version 7.5
which is scheduled for end of life 2nd qtr. 2013 I think. While trying to get a
project moving and get the system upgraded I have found that we may not be
given/granted all of the tools we need to make the move successfully. With that
being said, has anyone dealt with BMC and falling out of support completely?
This is something I haven't had to deal with in the past and if it comes down
to it I am just wondering if any other customers have had to deal with this and
what to expect. I am already working with BMC on this, so I am just looking for
an outside opinion from others that may have dealt with this.

Baffled by outgoiong email

2012-11-29 Thread Brittain, Mark

Thanks

Re: Senior Remedy Consultant seeking contract position

2012-11-29 Thread Sanford, Claire
Wow! If we could snatch Rick up I would! If you are new to the list and do not
know Rick... He is one of the most knowledgeable Remedy
Admins/Developers/consultants I have ever met. Anytime I have asked him a
question or run something by him for his opinion, I have received a clear and
concise answer. It may not always be what I *want* to hear, but it is accurate
and never sends me down the wrong path!

You would be fortunate to have him working in with you!

** Good day, fellow ARSListers! I rolled off a contract earlier this month,
and after a brief respite, am ready for my next one.

For those not familiar with me, I have 16 years experience with Remedy as an
Administrator, Developer, and for the last 12 years, as a Consultant. I am
seeking an Architect/Senior Developer or Technical PM/Lead position on a
contract/1099/C2C basis, for which I am available immediately.

I live in the Seattle area, and while I am not opposed to some travel and
onsite work, I have been on the road so much the last few years that I will
need at least some remote work as part of that position. How that is
structured is open to discussion.

Email me privately for an updated resume, and I look forward to hearing from
you.

CMDB 7.6.04 Update Assets to In Inventory

2012-11-29 Thread Phil
Hi,

I'm looking for an automatic process to run an asset update based on a data
file.

The asset status will be set to In Inventory and I need to set the correct
inventory location.

It’s easy enough to set the asset status to another status but I can’t see
a way to set the status to In Inventory and set the inventory location.

Is it possible to put assets In Inventory via AIE or another import
technique?

Thanks

Phil

Re: Dashboards Compatibility question -- DAVE?

2012-11-29 Thread Carl Wilson
Hi,

BAO is compiled against 64bit and can run as a 64bit process, Dashboards is
still 32bit and therefore requires the 32bit components.

I have not also been able to generate an Excel file for Dashboards, I
required this a couple of months ago and had to drill down instead.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys..

It certainly helped..so I assume a scratch implementation of version 8 should
be less efforts than taking the 6.4->7.6.04->8.0 path.

Pre 7.x upgrade to 8.0:

You need to identify your customization
Upgrade your pre-7.x to 7.6.04 ( ARServer component Only)
Run BPCU tool ( read BMCs Upgrade_to_preserve_customization.pdf for more
details on BPCU) , make sure BPCU had overlaid your objects, also see if there
are any non-permitted objects which cant be migrated to overlay, depending on
BPCU difference report , you can run rest of the component upgrade (like
approval/assignment,itsm,cmdb etc) only upgrade to 7604 done successfully then
you can perform an upgrade to 8.0 (base release ) and then apply 8.0 service
pack (keep in mind 8.0 service packs are not cumulative, you have to perform
base release install first)
NOTE: Taking db backup at every stage is recommended.

What are the main things that have changed from 7.6.04 in terms of up gradation
