Re: License considerations for custom approval process

2013-03-22 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

Legal stuff is tricky. David says that BMC are discussing an exception for
the approval process...

As this is an approval process, I would probably create Filters that
immediately tells the main record to continue the process. Would this be
considered illegal or not, who knows!?

I try to think of the intent of READ licenses when doing something like this.

My normal rule of thumb is that the request or something, the end user, should
be able to update his/her records with a READ licenses.

The Approver is not the Requesting End User, but as someone said an Approver
could be anyone, and you are not supposed to have to buy FIXED/FLOAT licenses
to every employee.

Why not give them a FLOAT license? The problem is that they might do READ-type
stuff 99% of the time, but giving them a FLOAT would tie that license 100% of
the time because of the 1% needed for the occasional Approval...

Maybe you could have some FLTR:s in place that changes your Approvers to FLOAT
in the User-form whenever they have an active Approval, and then back to READ
again when they have done the Approval/Rejection?

Please don't refer to this posting in any legal dispute with BMC, I am just
sharing my thoughts and ideas on the subject ;-)

True, and I could display them in a table in a master record by linking them
 with a common id.

I didn't know if that might be considered cheating or not. Maybe not as long
as I don't actually update that master record with their input.

 Hi,

If you have a home-grown solution for approvals, why not create one record
per approver, with the approvers user-name in the submitter-field.

When the approver then updates this record with a read-licenses, you can
then have FLTR:s and/or ESCL:s that forwards the process. For example
creating a new approval record for the next approver, or notifies someone of
 a reject.

  Hi David,

None of the approvers should need a write license. The approval

I think BMC understands that almost anybody in an organization can be

So with that info why can't either level 1 or level 2 reject the

The way I see it there are no licenses required until the request gets

Hi,

WE have an issue in production as below:

Environment details:
ARS 7.1 patch 004
ITSM ver 7 patch 007

On a change form, while realting a change to another change, when we click on
the search button on the Infrastructure change relationship search form and
enter the change number, it takes more than 1 minute to return the result.
We have checked the logs and found the below active link and the query which is
taking time :
AL: CHG:CSA:Search_100
DB query:

When we check the cost of the query, it shows as 1 and shows use of index on
field C100182 but still while running this query it takes more than 1
minute to return the result in the table field.

Steps to replicate :
1. open any existing change
2. goto relationship tab
3. select request type as infrastructire change and click on search 4.
Infrasturctire change search form opens, enter the change id to be related and
click on search again 5. The table below gets populated with the change id that
you entered but it takes more than 1 minute to return the result.

Has anyone come across this issue?

2013-03-22 Thread Joe Newmark
Having worked with ServiceNow I can tell you that the best way to interact with
it is via web services. SNOW makes every table available as a web service that
can be acted on via SOAP calls, etc.
There are a number of APIs available if you search the SNOW Wiki.

SNOW uses MYSQL and the java connectors

Hope this helps...

I am working on a theory. I believe you can simply (maybe) copy the current
Load_People DMT job / transformation that you would usually use with an excel
file. This will allow you to pick up all of the validation then simply change
out the excel file input and grab the data from other sources using Atrium
Integrator. From there you will have to change around the data mappings to fit.
I have not full proven this yet, but throwing out another idea. Also I have
only been doing Remedy stuff for around 3 months so I could be completely off

Karthik – That Pentaho transform sounds very interesting. Is there any
documentation on it? I was under the impression that you couldn’t run an
Integrator job to connect to the People form, did this change in 8.x?

Which version of arsystem are you using. If 8.0, there is an OOB pentaho
transformation available. You can easily manipulate it for your needs
 without any code changes.

The best practice is to bring data from AD over to vendor form, then push
that data as it is on a regular form (staging), do all these validation on
 staging form.

You have to build your logic like when your data is being pushed to
staging form for every record you have to query vendor table such that
manager's dn equals diastinguished name and set the manager login I'd as
Manager's login equal unique attribuye of AD (sAMAccountName or uid).

Now when you will push this managers I'd to people form, for the first
sync certain records will error, those will be the ones whose manager
record is not created before the reportees record is getting created. After
second sync all managers should go in successfully.

 Hi,

I am developing code for data in AD to sync with People record. So in that
process i am struck with a small problem.

I created a vendor form to bring the LDAP data and creating a escalation
to push new records into People form. But in the vendor form i only have a
Manger name but i don't have a ManagerLoginId, which i need to push into
People record. If i try to Push just the Manager Name leaving Manager Login
Id to Null its throwing a error. Its working fine if i leave both Manager
Login ID and Manger Name to Null. But i do need to get both of them to
 complete this task.

So can you give me some ideas to get pass through this problem.
