Partial upgrade from 8.1 to 8.1 SP1
Given the amount of time it takes to update an entire suite (AR server, CMDB, AIE, ITSM, SRM, SLM, Migrator, Midtier), we were thinking of splitting the installs into two separate days. One being AR Server, CMDB, AIE, and Midtier. Then the next weekend being the remaining of the list above). BMC has given us the indication that this will cause no problems. We have a server group with one primary AR server and three secondary servers. We did discover that you are unable to install the secondaries at the same time because of an install user that is created in the database then removed during the ARserver and CMDB installs). Has anyone attempted this? If so, what has your result been? Any tips or suggestions? Thank you. -- This email message and any attachments are for the sole use of the intended recipient(s). Hello Rebecca, We have done this in staging and from what we saw, everything seemed to work. Although, we didn't have much time testing it. I would recommend you do it in an testing environment first and see if everything is working and to your satisfaction. I did this (prior to SP1) I want to say just after Thanksgiving last year, then installed all the apps early this year. Re: Drag drop attachments not working in ARS 7.1 WUT
Thanks Rick, I was already dragging files (not shortcuts) from the desktop. The most common usage of this is dragging a message from Outlook to the desktop to create an MSG file, then dragging that onto an attachment pool. I am able to do this from another machine so I first tried running the WUT on my laptop as administrator but that didn’t help. The cursor does change to have the “+” icon but when I drop the file doesn’t fall into the pool (so to speak). Re: CMDB and Remedy 8.1 Upgrade
Roger, For your questions: 1. For changes to OOB modules done in Best Practices mode what happens to those changes during an upgrade to 8.1. Are they preserved or do they need to be recreated? If you have things in the overlay layer (Best Practices mode), no custom object or overlay in that layer will be changed. All the definitions will remain in place and be present after the upgrade. Well, there is one exception If the underlying definition is deleted, overlays on that definition are deleted as well. So, in the case of a field or form or piece of workflow being deleted, any overlay on that is deleted. This in general is not an issue as if that item is gone, your overlay is not really meaningful, but there are always exceptions -- like the fact that Approval Central deleted and recreated the console form rather than an upgrade in place like they were supposed to... but that has been fixed in the installer and was simply an error where the rules were not followed by the development team. So, things in that layer remain. This does not mean that you don't have to look at things to see that what is in the overlay layer does not have issues with or conflict with things that are changed. But, the changes you made are there to allow you to fix them if needed. 2. I have the same question as above for changes made in Base Development mode. Of course you will not have made any changes in the Base layer so there is no real issue here What happens is that they are Deleted/overwritten and they are gone. You should assume that NOTHING that you have changed in Base is preserved. NOTE: I mean nothing changed by YOU. If BMC made the change -- like through SLM or Approval creating filters or CMDB changing definitions, those are all preserved as they are changed by configuration within those applications and then put into and preserved in base mode. Those are all retained. But, any change you made to a definition will be overwritten. 3. Does anyone have a list of processes or gotchas for upgrade the CMDB? From 7.6.04 to 8.1, the upgrade of the CMDB itself is pretty straight-forward. There are no significant changes to the class model or to the interfaces. HOWEVER, when you upgrade the ITSM application, you will generate a significant change to the CMDB. About 100 attributes are removed from the CDMB and put into a new Asset table named AST:Attributes. This is part of the ITSM upgrade rather than the CMDB upgrade although it does make significant changes to the CMDB. So, there is some extra time involved here but it should be an automatic process. The biggest issue with this change are potential impacts on any customizations in Asset or any integrations that loaded lifecycle data into the attributes that are now moving out of the CMDB. I hope this helps, Doug Mueller -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Roger Nall Sent: Monday, July 14, 2014 3:07 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: CMDB and Remedy 8.1 Upgrade Greetings everyone. Re: Partial upgrade from 8.1 to 8.1 SP1
One of this lists members, Sabyson Fernandes, recently had a problem with 8.1 behind a server group not releasing floating licenses or something to that effect which resulted in that all familiar error connected from another machine. I do not recall his complete environment, but I do recall him mention the F5 load balancer to be a part of the equation. BMC has a hot fix for it. If that could be a potential problem for you, you may want to investigate and make necessary arrangements to get that fix from BMC pre-upgrade. Information on some miscellaneous, hidden or out of view fields found in COM:Company..
There are some fields found in COM:Company, either found in the Miscellaneous tab, or hidden or both, or out of all views, that I would like to know if they served any real functional purpose in ITSM. Company ID - Field ID 26032 This is an indexed field so may probably be used in some of the searches in workflow. Is it used for anything other than a manual search for a company name by its ID? We do use it internally here for reporting and other things but wanted to know the application specific purpose of it if there is. Lead Time (Days) - Field ID 26013 Really??? Lead time for what? I could understand if it was a part of an asset - where you can have lead time for delivery or installation or both.. But for a company? I'm guessing its one of those fields that may have crept in as a part of a copy paste operation while creating fields for the COM:Company form and remained there as a ghost field and then got hidden. Or does it have a real purpose? And if so what is it? Navigation Menu04 - Field ID 104045 This field is out of all views. It looks like it was intended to be the 4th tier on the navigational menus for companies. Is this actually functional if populated? From the field ID it was probably not even created at the same time as the other 3 related fields, as those field ID's are sequential but this one is out of sequence.. Company Web ID - Field ID 101799 What is this supposed to contain? It's a hidden field, optional. Does it serve any kind of a purpose? Parent Company - Field ID 303604300 This field is out of all views. While it's fairly obvious what it can be used for, does it serve any functional purpose in ITSM at all? Or is it just one of those extra pieces of information that you could load if you want. It is probably not a part of any searches as it does not feature in any of the indexes built, and if it is, then that search may not be a very efficient search... Manufacturer Data Status - Field ID 42497 This is a hidden selection field having 6 values - New, Processed, Delete, Update, Invalid, Inactive. This appears to be a field that might have been mistakenly copied from the foundation load data forms?? Manufacturer Creator - Field ID 42498 Again a hidden field. Possibly copied on this form again by error from the load form? Manufacturer Source Dataset - Field ID 42499 Hidden field again - maybe a part of the load form and should not have been here? Are any of these fields apart from Company ID useful? Or do they serve no purpose at all and should not have been there to begin with? Joe PS: By the way none of these feature in the data load form.. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years

I do not actually have that tool anymore - I used to have it during the 6.3 days :-) for some documentation work that I needed to do. Mark Brittain, who is currently working with the client I'm with on this engagement, made a mention of AR Utilities yesterday. I think he does have it so will ask him if he can. Meanwhile, I was thinking of enabling Object Relationships at some point later, as it has not yet been on development here. But since it's a one time high cost operation, have not got down to getting permission to get it done - mostly because I have not started with any real development work yet. I'm suspecting all of these fields with the exception of Company ID, are fields that were created either as a part of a copy paste operation and intended to be deleted later, but never were.. There is even a z1D Company Type field on there that is optional when it probably should have been a display only field. I won't swear it should have been a Display Only field though as I have not checked its underlying workflow as well.. Meanwhile, I was thinking of enabling Object Relationships at some point later, as it has not yet been on development here. But since it’s a one time high cost operation, have not got down to getting permission to get it done – mostly because I have not started with any real development work yet. I’m suspecting all of these fields with the exception of Company ID, are fields that were created either as a part of a copy paste operation and intended to be deleted later, but never were.. There is even a *z1D Company Type* field on there that is optional when it probably should have been a display only field. I won’t swear it should have been a Display Only field though as I have not checked its underlying workflow as well.. Is it used for anything other than a manual search for a company name by its ID? Restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting in Attachment Pool field
Hi All. Is there any way to restrict a specific users or group for Adding/Deleting files in Attachment Pool field? I have tried one solution like Removing 'Delete' from 'Display Labels in View' in Field Properties, but it restricts all the users. Please provide your suggestion on this. *Regards,* *Karthick Sundararajan* ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years
