yeah I also heard the same thing. And just when I wanted to go to it this
year. I really wish BMC would just stick to one thing. I also wish that
WWWRUG would come back.

There is no way that I will be able to get motivation to fly to a one day
event. I managed to convince the business that the 4 day event in the
states was fantastic and worth the money.

Engage was good to see some future stuff and vision for BMC products but it was
definitely diluted with too much sales crap. WWRUG had intelligent presenters
for the most part instead of some consulting firm trying to sell me their
custom product in the guise of "improving cmdb" or something else.

ARS 9.1.02 Upgrade

2017-02-07 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
I am trying to upgrade an 8.1.02 ARS only (Single server, no CMDB no ITSM) to

I have a ticket opened with BMC but they have not responded.

According to the install docs (which I had to find under the ITSM install) the
only rights needed for ARS are (which I have):
grant alter session, create cluster, create database link, create sequence,
create session, create synonym, create table, create view, create procedure,
create trigger, query rewrite to ARole_arsys;

Anybody know what other permissions I need to have granted for ARS 9.1 to run.

I am on Red-Hat Linux 7 with Oracle 11g and the installer did not complain
about any missing privileges.

Fred,
This link (https://community.oracle.com/thread/287327)
suggests that IMP_FULL_DATABASE fixes this...but is apparently considered
overkill...another post says

SELECT ANY TABLE
UPDATE ANY TABLE

eliminates this error

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20988572/getting-ora-01031-insufficient-privileges-while-querying-a-table-instead-of-ora
suggests
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges happens when the object exists in the
schema but do not have any access to that object.

These local events (mini Engage) sounds like the local User groups that were
setup by the Remedy Sales Reps eons ago. I believe I first meet you at one of
those events here in Pennsylvania.

I am also likely the only person ever asked to leave one of those local User
Group meetings. Not because I was rowdy. Because I would not give my SSN for
a background check for the User Group meeting (public meeting) held at a
facility that performed government work.

And everything they are saying is 'we conducted surveys and listened to the

not want to fork over a million to subsidize and organize these events.
Probably gave the pink slip to the BMC event dept.

Re: BMC Engage

2017-02-07 Thread Pierson, Shawn
It seems like they’ve been dumping their money into the software, considering
how quickly they’ve advanced since going private with stuff like Smart IT. As
much as I prefer them hiring developers over salespeople, it does seem like
they should hire some more sales staff to make an effort to both keep their
existing customer base and find new customers.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

I haven’t been to an ENGAGE yet so can’t comment on it but yes the WWWRUG were
definitely worth it for a lot of reasons if you could afford the cost and
expense associated to making to one..

So where would these “exchanges” be held at?

There is no way that I will be able to get motivation to fly to a one day

was fantastic and worth the money.

Re: BMC Engage

2017-02-07 Thread Paul J. Zagarella
I spoke to my sales rep and confirmed that the 2017 Engage in Vegas is
cancelled. The comments that I heard about Engage 2016 were in line with what I
noticed at the conference as well. The fact that they pushed Innovation Studio
and did not have any sessions on it or any workshops was crazy. They were
really pushing Blade Logic and Control M but did very little with ITSM. The
funny thing is that all the ITSM sessions and workshops were booked and the
Blade Logic and Control M sessions were empty or half empty. They really need
to focus on tech for these instead of sales and more people would come and
maybe even buy stuff! When you go to CES or even something like Blizzcon, you
see product and get to try stuff out. They should have scheduled labs with
HRCase, Innovation Studio, etc, going the whole entire time. In general, they
should have planned way more labs/training sessions and encouraged developers
to bring their apps to showcase. Also, moving it from the second week of
September would really help as most schools are too busy with the start of the
school year. Well…. we will see what happens at the new format but basically it
will probably end up being more sales. ☹

Yeah, given how well the last one was attended, there has to be some other
reason. I'm guessing it has something to do with sales goals.

And everything they are saying is 'we conducted surveys and listened to the
public and decided that multiple geo-centric events is betier than a 4 day
global conference.' Really? Who did they talk to? I say the new CEO did not
want to fork over a million to subsidize and organize these events. Probably
gave the pink slip to the BMC event dept.

Re: OT: Hans Rosling is dead...

2017-02-07 Thread Doug Blair
Misi,

This is so sad! Hans has been inspirational, concise, clever and clear, and
I’ve loved every second of his TED talks including the one where he
demonstrated sword-swallowing - sort of unusual for a statistician, no?

And for those who have not watched his collected TED’s and other presentations,
as long as you followed Misi’s link (really, do watch!) you may as well look at
the rest on TED. Wonderful, enlightening and hopeful…

He will be missed…

Doug
