Re: Suggestions wanted for backing up....

2009-03-04 Thread Ali Musa
My advice for you to do REMEDY recovery to do the following

 1. Use REMEDY Migrator
 2. Use traditional process of backup
* Backup Definitions each in a single .def file (i.e. forms,
active-links, filter, etc )
* Backup Data using third-party utilities such as (fast-Export) to do
Copy-from-schema to identical schema.

Hi Richard,

We have a similar situation. I have no idea of how Tivoli operates but we are
using a network backup product called NetBackup. Having had the unfortunate
experience of having to recover from a hardware failure, I got the bad news
that the backup guys could not "create" a server in the state of the last
successful backup, they could only dump data contained in the directories. So I
had to do a full OS install with all the apps etc and them took specific data
contained in the backups and used it, like the AR licensing, config etc. This
took me nearly a week. To say that the business was not happy would be an
understatement.

There are a few virtual products availabe, we are now moving to the VMWare
environment. This now brings along the possibilities of snap shots. This means
that if your vm server instance dies, using the snap shot you basically have an
image of it and it can be used to rebuild the exact server as it was (at the
time of the snap shot). Having a snap shot is great but I believe that it
requires the same space allocation that the original server has. This is where
I am having a battle with my server guys.

You could also look at server groups. Having more than one app server under a
load balancer would allow you to operate on the balance of the servers if one
was to become inoperable. It's a cash thing though.

I have put the ball back in the businesses court requesting that they need to
determine the max downtime of a critical service and then based on that, what
are they prepared to pay to make it possible, or pay in penalties.

On my wish list (for years), I want to be able to right-click any
escalation and select Run Now. Maybe in a later version of ARS.

You could create a separate regular form to hold your "escalations"
which has filters attached to it. An escalation would then check this
small form every 1 minute to see if anything needs to be done. If so,
then the escalation would push a value to the Status field, which would
run the filters and update the schedule for the next run.

With your escalations in a separate form you could then test any
escalation by manually updating the Status field.

be harder to design one in a minutes interval. The workaround would be
to create a flag that the escalation would set after its run on a
record..

** Apparently there is a change to the way Escalations execute
in ARS 7.x. In previous versions of ARS, going back MANY years, when you
created an escalation which runs on an interval - it would execute upon
saving it and then on the interval. In version 7.1 the escalation will
not execute immediately but will wait until the interval time to
execute. While I can appreciate that people might want to wait until the
interval time has expired before running the escalation I wish that
Remedy would have made it an option, I want it to run immediately so I
can test the results. I realize I can set a short interval, test the
results, then reset the interval but in many cases I only want to run
the escalation once to clean up data, in which case I would set the
interval to 99 days (just in case I get side tracked , I still have 99
days to turn off the escalation).

Candace,

This issue is related to an object variable in your code not being
initialized. You should have created the object using syntax like this:

YourClass oVariable = new YourClass("Constructor Params");

Then you can use the methods of that variable at will -
oVariable.DoSomething() or whatever.

You can also test to make sure your object variables are properly
referenced
in your code by comparing them to null and then running exception code
in
the event you have a null reference (or you could use proper programming
methods and throw an exception, of course). This is handy if you're
depending on an object being instantiated by another library (for
example,
returning a proper XML DOM Document from a Web Service call):

if(oVariable = null)
 { Console.Writeline("Null oVariable"); }

If you send your code, we'd probably be able to help you quite a bit
more.

Chris

We are using remedy 7.0.1 patch 2 and we have a process where incoming
email can become part of an Incident. I am not using any templates or
any kind or instructions. The email comes in to the AR System Messages
form and based on that happening we take the email information and store
that in an Incident if we want to. Anyway the problem I am running
into is if the email is in HTML format and if I save the HTML contents
in the Notes field I get all the HTML coding with it. So I made an
HTML button so if they want to see what the HTML looks like I copy the
Notes field into a View field and they can see the pretty version of
the what the email looks like. The problem is if the Notes fields is
ever used in a report then you are back to the all the embedded code

Subject: Migrate Archived Data

Hi All,

I need some help on migrating archived data that was archived to a
remedy archive form. We migrate Oracle to SQL Server and when i try to
import the records i have exported using the Remedy Import tool, then i
receive an error stating that i cannot create or modify records in a
archive or audit form (ARERR 8998).

Can anyone point me in the right direction going about migrating?

THX
Francois

Re: Runmacro and runmacro.cat file on Linux - can not open catalog file

2006-10-17 Thread Ali Musa
Why if you use the RunWoMacro api in the user community that does not
need all the configuration setup.

You have to copy the api directory from the linux server installation
file to this machine. This will allow you to use runmacro.
There used to be a KB entry for this as well but due to the current
problems with the BMC support website I guess it might be difficult to
get to that.

Kind regards,

Michiel
