ADDM + Citrix SDX
Greetings, I know it's not ARS specific, but I thought I'd throw this one out there to see what experiences people might have with Citrix NetScaler discovery via ADDM. I've been playing around with ADDM trying to cobble together various credentials from the server hoard, DBA knights, storage gurus, and network magicians but I've hit a snag when it comes to NetScalers. Specifically SDXs vs. VPXs. The ADDM docs say it can discover dedicated hardware load balancers such as Application Delivery Controllers from F5 or Citrix (NetScaler), or the virtualized versions of these devices. That sounds to me like it should support SDX and VPX, but maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone have any expirience? I tried using an SNMPv2 cred to scan the SDXs and it cannot complete the getMACAddress method. (both the getDeviceInfo and getHostInfo complete fine). I then tried to scan a VPX with the above SNMPv2 cred as well and it fails completely. (SNMP timeout) My Citrix connection down the hall says he used all the same info, but it's failing (timing out)regardless. I reveiwed the MIB-OIDs being used in ADDM's script bank and they all seem to jive with Citrix documentation. that, if it doesn't recache definitions, tell it to as you are installing the patch. This is not a definitive list of steps, just a conceptual overview, but we have quite a few customers using the types of techniques above to do live system updates. It does work. Group Notifications
All, Got a fun one for you: Using the ITSM Support Group form we've disabled group notifications on all our support groups. (There's a reason but not worth going into here) The problem with doing this is if I ever want to allow a group notification in some small section of an ITSM application, say non-approval notifications (NANs) inside of a change request, I have to override this setting. I've been attempting to do my own homework but I'm stumped and not sure where to find the info I need. Here's my issue: I know that eventually everything gets passed to the form NTE:SYS-NT Process Control. On this form there are two fields I assume are important but I don't know the difference between them. 1. Disable Group Notifications (radio buttons Yes\No) 2. Group Notifications (drop down box Yes\No) I'm guessing that these tell the system whether or not to allow group notifications to go onto the final stage (NTE:SYS-Group). I'm also guessing that the aforementioned Support Group form passes the Group Notifications Disabling to NTE:SYS-NT Process Control. What I cannot figure out is how to force the system to reprioritize things when a NAN needs to be sent to a group. The filter APR:NAN:NotifyGroup_820`! passes the notification information on to the Process Control form and I can specify changing the two fields mentioned above, but the notification still doesn't go out. Again, I'm guessing that's because something else is superseding what APR:NAN:NotifyGroup_820`! passes to the Control Process form. Anyone got some insight into what the difference in the two fields mentioned above might be, or how I might override (only during NANs) the global setting for disabling group notifications? Remove the admin server from the server group o If it's on a load balancer, remove it from the LB as well 3. Disable escalations 4. Patch the admin server 5. Re-enable escalations, put the admin server back into the server group, restart it, and re-load balance it. 6. Complete the rest of the patches on the non-admin servers I don't see anything that specifically states I need to do this with the 8.1.01 SP. I'm going to follow this standard procedure unless anyone has any insight that says otherwise. Any thoughts or comments? (besides making sure I have the SP1 download that was on the EPD post-Feb) Cheers, -Doug Confidentiality Notice: This e-mail message, including any attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information. MS to force IE 11+ by 2016
All, I know some of you are probably working in a business environmnet that requires IE as the default browser. This article was sent my way and I thought I'd share it with the rest of the ARList as it's most likely going to start affecting our Remedy support if we can only use the latest and greatest IE version. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2014/08/07/stay-up-to-date-with-internet-explorer.aspx Cheers, -Doug Confidentiality Notice: This e-mail message, including any attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information. Re: ENGAGE
I may not have been a part of this whiskey adventure last time, but I can definitely make sure we have good Irish Whiskey representation. I reported 120 at the end of last Monday. As of this exact moment, there are only 102 active sessions, 41 are Remedy related, 11 by non BMCers, and 4 are technical. So, the numbers are shifting a bitbut my topic isn't in that list yet, but it titled 'Remedy Java API – Basic Components' where I plan on discussing how the API is structured, how the objects relate to what you see in Remedy Dev Studio as well as Mid-Tier, and how to manipulate your Remedy system through the API to get the best out of it. :)... I'm hopeful at this point that Engage is morphing into something a bit more acceptable to the many technical resources we have here on the list. Looking through the sessions, I see there are 120 sessions total. 46 are 'Remedy' related, that's ITSM or ROD (38%) in some way or another. Of those only 12 are not being done by BMCers (10%). 4 of those are listed as 'Technical' (3%). All 4 of them are directly related to ITSM (3 SRM, 1 CMDB). Nothing that's directly related to Remedy as a development platform, but as a platform to sell their OOTB toolspart of me is disappointed, but not surprised. Both of the topics I submitted were of a technical nature, relating to Remedy, not ITSM...so, I guess that's likely why neither topic was selected for presentation and due due to the fact that I was counting on not paying the admission fees, I'm not going to be able to justify the expense to attend this year...so...maybe I'll do them anyway, but post them on my site instead so everyone can benefit instead of just the ones that attend Engage...who knows. FTS 8.1 Administration Questions
Greetings, Our group is beginning the testing of Knowledge Management (RKM). Of the many things this entails is nailing down the FTS configuration. The most I've been able to find in terms of configuring the FTS is the AR System Administration FTS Configuration Form, but this still leaves me with questions: * In a previous ARS Listing someone asked how to determine the size requirements for the BMC Software\ARSystem\ftsconfiguration\collection directory. I get that no one can really estimate this for you as it's dependent on how much stuff you have in your system. My question here is: how do I get a good estimate of how much stuff I have. Is there a directory or a command that I can use? Should I base it off of some part of the SQL DB? How did any of you decide on what size storage to use? o Link: http://ars-action-request-system.1093659.n2.nabble.com/Recommended-size-for-FTS-index-collection-directory-td7581791.html * Occasionally, the BMC Software\ARSystem\ftsconfiguration\collection directory grows wildly and then appears to wipe old records from this folder and the size returns to something manageable. o Is this due to an auto-indexing? o Can a threshold be set on how much storage is used for the indexing? o Can a schedule be set for when it needs to dump old records (if this is even what it's actually doing)? * If we use the failover FTS functionality recently released (in 8.1.01 I think), is it safe to assume that we'll need this space on the backup servers as well?
