You might also want to try deleting the form cache on the users PC. Usually
located under ARSystem/Home folder - you'll find a bunch of subfolders with
names corresponding to the forms the user has viewed.

We are upgrading from 6.3 to 7.1 and just wanted to know if we need to purge
our 6.3 license keys.  I have upgraded our DEV servers from 6.3 to 7.1 and I
didn't have to do anything about license keys but our sister company who is
also doing the same upgrade is telling us that we have to purge the license
keys everytime we upgrade Remedy.  Is that a correct statement?

Do an Active Link instead of Filters.  Filters run on the server side.  That’s
why you’re getting the server’s information.

Jason,

You won’t be able to gather the user’s computer information thru a filter since
they run on the server.  You will need to run your $PROCESS$ command in an
active link without using “@@”.  Since you are attempting to do this in a
filter, I am assuming timing does not matter so you can capture it on window
open, window loaded, display, submit, modify..in the active link..

Hope this helps.

Actually a better way is to use Centralized Preferences. If you set your
server as a Preference server you will bypass the ini file on the Citrix
servers. Works like a charm.

Well...one thing you could do to ensure that it never does that is set the
server to always prompt for ID and password...this would prevent the TS guy's
ID from being used.  I know that the way Remedy stores profiles (in the
registry) doesn't work well for Citrix farms because you never know which
server you will be logged into...so I would recommend setting your server to
prompt, instead of 'user defined' which is the default...you won't have this
issue anymore.

We have a new terminal server guy(lets call him the TS guy) and he reinstalled
remedy on our 3 terminal servers.

Now, when its the first time a user logs in to Remedy through CITRIX it loads
up the profile of the TS guy.  It recalls the login information of the TS guy.
It then can be updated and will be fixed the next time you login but that
doesn't stay fix forever... After a while (days to weeks) it comes back with
the login information of the TS guy again and I suspect that the TS guy
probably logged in to Remedy using his DA account.  I don't know much about
installing Remedy on terminal servers but is there anything that the TS guy is
doing wrong?  The TS guy is telling me that Remedy has a faulty way on saving
profile and I want to prove him wrong by saying he didn't instal it right or he
must be doing something wrong on the terminal server.  Please advise.  Thank

Unfortunately not, it was two years and two companies ago now. I know
it exists because I spent over a week pulling my hair out on the same
issue, then bit the bullet and called BMC who promptly sent me the
article. You should get BMC Support to send you the article too. For
some reason, not all KB articles are publically available on their
knowledge base. I don't know if that is by design, just a configuration
problem, or just something screwy in how the Knowledge Base does its
searches.

If you are using a Vendor form, the conversion should be
automatic in using a Date/Time field. However, at a previous company I
was at, their LDAP system had date/times stored in a slightly different
format than normal. BMC Support has a KB article that outlines settings
you can add to your ar.cfg file to recognize the different LDAP
date/time formats. It has been two years since I last used it, but
remember that it worked to fix my problem reading LDAP dates/time
fields.

Since you didn't tell us what version Remedy, I'll describe it in general terms
for 6.3 and above (With version 7.1.0 you can use the new Service filters and
may not need a separate form).  Again this is off the top of my head...

Create a new form to hold the server commands.  Put at least 2 fields on it:
"Command" and "Result" (Result should be a 0 length text field, Command should
be large enough to hold the command string).  I also change the status to be
New, In Process, Completed, Delete.  Form should NOT be visible to normal users
(have Hidden permissions).

Create a Filter on the new form on Submit and Modify that fires if Status = In
Process.  The Filter's actions will be:
Set Fields 1:  Set Result = $PROCESS$ $Command$
Set Fields 2:  Set Status = Completed

Your button Active Link would then do the following:
Push:  To server commands form
   Status = In Process
   Command = "PING " + $Machine Name+$
Set Fields from server commands form where Request ID = $LASTID$
Set some large Display Only field = Result
Display the Result to the user (either a message or show the user the Display
Only field)

You can then have the Active Link delete the server commands record or an
escalation go thru all completed records (probably more than 1 hour old) and
delete them.

Off the top of my head I can think of a couple of ways...

1.  Convert your code to run the vbscript on the server (You could change your
code to push to a temporary form record, use a filter on submit to run the
script, and then query the form for the result).

2. Instead of using a vbscript, If you have ldap integration, create a
ardbcldap vendor form and query that to get the Active Directory info (no
vbscript needed).

I need your help.  I have a button where a tech can click on it and it will do
a run process active link that calls a vbscript that will check if the
customers domain account is locked out or disabled.  This works great on the
User tool but not on mid tier since it's not supported.  Any suggestions on how
I can run a command line active link on midtier?  Is there any workaround?

You should always use the Admin tool that matches the version of your
server. User tool versions do not have to match the server version.

Are there multiple NICs on the server?  If so, and the box got restarted, it's
possible that the "other" one got designated as the primary.

Server ID/MAC address change.
I asked around and our hardware group says they didn't change anything. We
don't have any virtual environments that would generate a dynamic MAC address.

Does anybody have any idea what would cause this server id to change? I am
perplexed.

Re: No available columns when creating a view form from SQL

2008-05-23 Thread Jason Tricky
Thanks to all who replied... I will just probably create a new table on the
Remedy database with the required field needed to create a remedy view form and
I'll just have to update that table with the values from the view form from the
linked server from time to time. It took me almost a month to get access from
another department to their external database and permission to add it as a
linked server. I may be better off doing the work on the remedy database side
since I already have access to their view form and work from here.

Without the REQUIREMENTS of the external db not having any column
(field) that enforces non-null and unique values, you CAN NOT create the view
form.

You need to talk to your dba's.

Just want to make sure of a couple of items.

1. You have created a Linked Server (From the AR database server) to your
external database. (Are both of these db's SQL 2005?)

2. ARAdmin has rights to access the external database.

When I hit load nothing shows up on the available columns list. The reason for
that according to the manual is because the database view must contain an
integer or character field that enforces no null value and unique to act as the
request ID field and I don't have a column(field) that meets that requirement
on my database view. I do have a field that is unique that I can use how do I

If you are attempting to create a view form from an external sql
database...

For SQL Server—
TABLENAME or DATABASENAME.OWNER.TABLENAME (Make sure you specify dbo if the
current user is the owner of the table.)
Also make sure ARAdmin has permissions to the sql db you are attempting to
create a view form with.

Syntax -

[INAME\INAME].DBNAME.OWNER.TBNAME

This is the syntax for SQL 2005 with an instance name, the instance name is in
the brackets [INAME\INAME]

You can test it by the following sql query-

select * from [INAME\INAME].DBNAME..OWNER.TBNAME

Is this what you are looking for Tricky?

Re: No available columns when creating a view form from SQL

2008-05-23 Thread Jason Tricky
I see that I need to have a unique column field that enforces not null and must
be an integer or char no less than 6 no greater than 15. The view nor the form
form doesn't have that column. Can I create a view and change the type of the
field to meet the requirement for remedy? Can I do like Create view
dbo.MyViewForm
  AS
  select
UID INT NOT NULL, as Field
  , Last_Name
  , First_Name
  etc
I only have read access to the table from the linked server and I just created
the view by select * from that table.

  Well Tricky,
There is a section in the manual, which manual depends on your version, that
tells you what field types are supported in Remedy View forms, if you don't
have any of those, then they won't show up as available fields, pay special
attention to the requirements for the Request ID field.

** I have a view on SQL that I want to load on Remedy so I open the admin
tool and click on new object then I select view form and type in my database
table ARSystem.dbo.MyViewForm and when I click on load I don't get an error but
there's no available columns showing up. MyViewForm is a view I created from a
linked server using SQL. I can query that view on SQL using management studio
with no problem. Do you know why I can't load it on Remedy or can someone show
me how how to do this? Thanks
