intermittent db timeout errors occurring

Hi all,

We are a custom shop running on AR Server 7.6.04 SP3, Mid-Tier Version 7.6.04 
SP3 201209071045 Hotfix, Oracle 11g

We are starting to receive intermittent DB timeout errors, usually the lock is 
occurring on a synonym calling a java class object, which leads me to believe 
its related to mid-tier in some way.

Has anyone else seen these types of errors intermittently? Are there any 
configurations that I should check having to do with java timeouts?

Notify Action Missing Field Values in Subject

Hello All,
 
We are upgrading to the 7.5 patch 006 BMC AR System Server Platform, in
my testing I have noticed something strange with Notify Action Subject
lines missing field values. Has anyone seen this happen before? Is this
a bug with 7.5?

Last Modified By Question

Hello All,
Has anyone ever fired a filter off of the Last Modified By field
changing?
I have set up a filter to do this, but its not firing...seems like a
filter will not fire off of this modification. I couldn't find anything
in the documentation that would say if it was possible or not...

I have a scenario where I need to send a notification when an external system 
modifies a record. So, I have a filter firing on Modify with Run If: 'Last 
Modified By' != 'DB.Last Modified By' AND 'Last Modified By' = SCIB
I see a record being modified by this USER, however, my filter will not 
fire...seems like it is not actually seeing the system stamp of Last Modified 
By as a change.

7.5 Mid Tier Object List Question

I have imported the Mid Tier Object List form/workflow, when I log in as
a regular user with restricted permissions I can see ALL forms even if I
don't have permission to view them i.e AR System forms.

Is there any way to restrict the visibility of these forms the same way
the client does based on Permission Visible/Hidden?

Disable Mid-Tier Set Refresh Interval on tables

WITHOUT removing the entire option for preferences?

Email Error Log Question...

All,

I have a process in place to where certain emails are forwarded to our
server email from another account. Based on the TO information, I have a
filter that picks up this email and creates an Incident. I am currently
setting the Body of the email into a description field that is 5000
characters long.

If by chance, the Body of the email is 5000 chr, the email engine
submits a record to the Email Error Log that says:

MessageType: 2

MessageNum: 306

MessageText: Value does not fall within the limits specified for the
field

AppendedText:  (Maximum length- 5000) : TTS:HlpDskTkt :
Description

Message will be deleted without logging in email messages form because
there is an error on submit.

 

And, obviously it deletes the Email record.

Is there any way for me to capture who the email was sent From, contents
of the email or anything so that I can at least send an email back to
them letting them know the incident was not submitted and they need to
shorten the email?

Multiple Instance Install Server License Issue

All,

I am trying to setup a dev application server to run multiple instances
of AR System Server to test upgrades/patches and am having an issue with
a real license being shared with the second instance which is causing
them both to not recognize a license and  act as a demo license.

 

Here is my setup:

Server1 - license (member of server group) - points to remdevdb

Server2a -license (member of server group) - points to remdevdb

Server2b - demo (only used for testing upgrades/patches) - points to
remupgdb

 

When installing Server2b, I did install in a separate directory and the
config files for both Server2a/Server2b both have the line:
Multiple-ARSystem-Servers: T

 

What am I missing here? Is there a separation of the multilicense file
in the directory that I need to split up somehow?

Yes, we gave it a different server name and there are 2 services listed
on that one box.

If that is your interpretation below, then I would love to see if
someone else has been able to implement this same scenario...

Also are both Server2a and Server2b trying to use portmapper?  One of
the servers (probably 2b) must be set not to use portmapper.  Instead it
must be set to use a defined port.

 

Check your config on 2b for lines of:

Multiple-ARSystem-Servers: T
Register-With-Portmapper: F
TCD-Specific-Port: 12345  {replace 12345 with your specific TCP/IP port
for 2b}

We currently run 3 ARS servers on the same physical box
(Dev/Test/Training).  Training is the only one that uses portmapper.

Yes, understood. What I meant was for some reason, when I login to 2a
and apply that server license, it magically appears for 2b as well. I
don't want it to, that is my dilemma. How/Where do I point Server2b to
get its license information from a separate location than Server2a?

Okwhen you stated that a 'real license' is being shared between
themyou do realize that each server install needs its own license,
correct?which means in your scenario you need 3 server license keys
to get this situation working, you have 3 correct?not trying to run
server2a and 2b with the same server key?

I am trying to setup a dev application server to run multiple instances
of AR System Server to test upgrades/patches and am having an issue with
a real license being shared with the second instance which is causing
them both to not recognize a license and  act as a demo license. 

 

Here is my setup:

Server1 - license (member of server group) - points to remdevdb

Server2a -license (member of server group) - points to remdevdb

Server2b - demo (only used for testing upgrades/patches) - points to
remupgdb

 

When installing Server2b, I did install in a separate directory and the
config files for both Server2a/Server2b both have the line:
Multiple-ARSystem-Servers: T

 

What am I missing here? Is there a separation of the multilicense file
in the directory that I need to split up somehow?

Remedy 7.0.1 patch 001 Upgrade Problem

We are upgrading from Remedy 6.0.1 to Remedy 7.0.1 patch 001. We are on
an Oracle 10.2.3 database. When we go to install Remedy 7.0.1 patch 001

Email Security Key Issue

All,

We are in the process of upgrading from Remedy 6.0.1 to Remedy 7.0.1
patch 001, we have a couple of customers who submit tickets via the
Email Template method. This works fine in v6, however in v7 we get this
error when using the Security Key assigned to this user:

Missing AR System User Information. automated process

 

If I use a different account in my Security Key, like my own, then it
goes through parsing successfully. 

 

Has anyone experienced this or has any ideas as to why this is happening
or a fix?

Steve,

We do the same thing and we experienced the same issue. I got around it
by inserting || instead of a carriage return in the template. Then I
have a filter on submit of the record to the ticket that replaces the
|| with an actual carriage return.

I just upgraded from ARS 4.03 to ARS 6.3. I've been using asp forms to
send the email templates to my remedy email address to my HPD:HelpDesk
form with no problems, pretty simple. I'm learned from trial and error
that the new engine has the email instructions form and email template
form to help process the new template schema. 

 

The problem I'm currently having is Carriage returns. When my email
templates gets sent I append fields together to form the Description
field formatted in an orderly matter. When I want a new line in my asp
forms I just use the vbCrLf _ to create a hard return and the
continuation line. For some reason when it gets parsed into the Email
engine it doesn't know what to do. 

 

I read in prior posts that it will not take words like Name: in the
fields because it'll translate it to a keyword. But I have not read any
limitations to carriage returns or how to include it so the engine will
like it. Does anyone have any experience with this? 

 

I just noticed that my Description field is unlimited (0 input length).
Could that be some sort of reason? It's only affecting the Description
field.

Help! Email Notifications not going out

All,

We are upgrading to 7.0.1 patch 001 and we are having issues with Email
Notifications.

Regular Outgoing emails are running fine, going through an smtp gateway.

The filter notifications are not going out???

 

Is there anything we can check? Anyone hear of this yet?

Remedy 7.0.1 patch 001 Core Field Data Lengths

All,

 

We have home grown Remedy applications. I noticed with the new version 7
that the Submitter/Modified By/Assigned To fields now have a default db
length value of 70, which puts the expand box on. Anyone have a nice
quick way of changing all of these fields to have the expand box
property set to Hide?

Just curious, otherwise I will be going through all of my forms manually
to hide them...

Notify Action on a Filter

All,

I am experiencing a weird issue in my test environment.

I have an Outgoing mailbox set up and it is set to the default. If I
have workflow that does a Push Fields to the ARSystem Email Message form
the emails go out fine. If I do a Filter Notify action, the emails are
not sending out. Anyone here of this happening? I am puzzled...

Any help would be appreciated!

to ARS.

Actually, I have some additional tables that I added to the User form
and it is not wanting to include them at all. Even when I bring them
over from Fields Not in View...it gives an error on save that says the
table has invalid properties. I use this right now in 6.0.1 so I am not
sure what has changed to make the properties invalid.

Okay, so I submitted a support ticket but I just couldn't wait to find
out. So, I took a chance...

I exported my Group/User form from v6.0.1 and then imported in place for
v7. That cleared up everything. Here is a screenshot of the error I was

ARS Email Engine 7.0.1 patch 001 Memory Errors

All,

We have installed the email engine 7.0.1 patch 001 and are getting
Memory Errors in our log files. The email engine is currently taking up
an entire CPU to run. This doesn't sound normal. Anyone else having this
issue?

We put in a support ticket and they are looking into it, but was hoping
someone out here can help.

The 7.0.01 email engine changed they way it starts.  It attempts to
cache all user/group info; this takes a massive amount of cpu and memory
because it fetches 100 users at a time.  There is a settings you set in
the EmailDaemon.properties to disable this behavior and restore it back
to the original behavior (evaluating user/group membership at
notification time).

 

com.remedy.arsys.emaildaemon.FetchUserGroupInfoOnDemand=true

 

Set this in EmailDaemon.properties and restart the email engine.  I
think you will see this addresses your issue.

We have this installed and we are having problems getting the jsp pages
to work under IIS. We have created the virtual directory under IIS and
configured the isapi filter under iis. Any ideas

Remedy 7.0.1 patch 001 under a Load Balancer

All,

We are setting up a new infrastructure for our Remedy environment. We
are going to be using a Load Balancer on top of 2 ARS Servers (Windows
2003). I was hoping to chat with someone else who may have an
environment similar to this about some questions I have concerning the
configuration of the ARS Servers, etc.
