Re: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

Java 1.6 have never been tested with ARS 7.1 products - know issue with BMC.
Recommendation is roll-back to 1.5.0_15.

Hi all

Can anyone offer a solution as to how I can solve the problem below. When
Remedy starts I get the message

Action Request System(R) Plug-In Server Version 7.1.00 Patch 002
200802011900

(c) Copyright 2001-2007 BMC Software, Inc.

ld.so.1: arplugin: fatal: relocation error: file
/opt/arsystem/mssharap03/slm/bin/libomfobjiefilapi.so: symbol
__1cNIostream_init2t6M_v_: referenced symbol not found

(ARNOTE 0)

Tried 4 restarts in 30 seconds. I give up at Wed May 28 09:50:07 2008

Arserver actuall starts but when I log into Remedy and attempt to have a
look at say Server Information I get a ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a
network connection to the AR System Plug-In server : mssharap03 (2011) :
RPC: Miscellaneous tli error - An event requires attentionError 0 message
and the system information form is not populated with data.

KM-00024024 - talks about unable to find the path the JVM.DLL

Env. - new install of Remedy

Solaris 10

Oracle 10g remote

ARS 7.1 P2

ITSM 7.0.3 unpatched

BMC_SLA_JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jre

JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jre

Java version is 1.6 JDK

I installed ITSM Asset, Change, Incident, Problem without incident. I then
installed (after many attempts) SLM (it's a beast because there is no
console install).

PATH is

/usr/java/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/dt/bin:/
usr/platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5220/sbin:/opt/sun/bin:/opt/SUNWvts/bin:
/opt/SUNWexplo/bin:/opt/SUNWsneep/bin:/opt/SUNWldm/bin

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is

/opt/arsystem/mssharap03/slm/bin:/opt/ar/mssharap03/bin:/opt/ar/mssharap03/a
pi/lib:/opt/ar/mssharap03/pluginsvr:/usr/java/jre/lib/sparc:/usr/java/jre/li
b/sparc/client:/usr/java/jre/lib/sparc/server:/usr/java/jre/lib/sparc9/serve
r:/usr/openwin/lib

So that would seem to be ok!

FW: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

2008-05-28 Thread Schon, Stuart
Hi

I have just been down this path and was finally able to install SLM
successfully with JAVA 1.6 on Solaris.

The problems I encountered was
1. trying to run it in -console mode, you can't, it says so in the
install manual.
2. running in XWindows didn't work either until I ran it as root
and set the JAVA_HOME and BMC_SLA JAVA_HOME environment variables. Even
then it still unpacks and installs its own version of Java (1.4), it is
also a good idea to put java into the PATH.

SLM works fine with Java 1.6

Once SLM was installed it broke the arplugin, arsystem start returns an
error and almost all of the ITSM suite is stuffed. I had to add
LD_PRELOAD=libCrun.so.1:libiostream.so.1; export LD_PRELOAD
into the arsystem script. (info found on the BMC Developer site BMCDN)

Note: I have also installed SLM on win2003 svr and apart from setting
the BMC_SLA JAVA_HOME it all went just fine.

BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

2008-05-14 Thread jaimie
I am attempting to install SLM on a Windows 2003 Server with a MSSQL
2005 db. I have also installed JRE v1.6.0_05. When I run the
installer it keeps coming up with this error Installer unable to
verify BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME system environment variable. Please make
sure system environment variable is set and its pointing to Java
Runtime environment home.

I opened up the ar.conf and added the following lines:

Variable name: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME
Variable value: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05

I saved the config, restarted the server and it is still coming up
with the above error.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

2008-05-14 Thread J.T. Shyman
Jaimie,

It is looking for a system variable and not an AR variable.

Right-click on My Computer, go to Properties, then Advanced. Click
Environment Variables and set BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME in the lower (system
variables) window. This should not require a restart of Windows.

Re: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

2008-05-14 Thread strauss
J.T. has told you what you need to do to set the BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME
variable properly in Control Panel - System Properties - Advanced -
Environment Variables - System Variables. Also, I would not expect any
BMC Remedy 7.x product to work properly with Java 1.6.x. As far as I
know, they were all developed against Java 1.5.x, and contrary to what
Sun would like to have you believe, there is very little compatibility
between major versions of Java. Try 1.5.0_14; it works just fine.

Re: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

2008-05-14 Thread J.T. Shyman
Great point, Chris.

The compatibility matrix for AR 7.1 states:

Java Support

AR System (Server and Mid-Tier) 7.1.00 requires Java 5.0 and supports that
version or higher. Supported Vendors are:

Operating System Vendor Minimum recommended version

Operating System
Vendor Minimum recommended version

Windows, Solaris, Linux (Red Hat and SuSE) Sun Microsystems
JDK 1.5.0_12

HP-UX
HP HP JDK 1.5 build 1.5.0.05

IBM
IBM JDK 1.5 SR2

So 1.6 should work but YMMV. 1.5 does work so I agree with Chris. You should
stick to 1.5.0_12 or higher which is compatible with AR 7.0.x as well.
