 Hugo,

An incompatible version of Java may do a lot of other things but cannot
prevent the AR System from starting. The AR System Server itself does not
depend on JRE or JDK, its sub systems such as web services, mid tier, email
 engine etc do..

So somehow I doubt the update of Java has caused that problem. Its
 something else.

If its UNIX, have you changed the environment or the .profile of the user
that starts the AR System in any way? I am assuming you are on windows
because you said you updated only the ar.cfg file upon updating Java.. On
UNIX you would have needed to update that in the server startup script too.

What OS are you dealing with? What’s the version of the AR System and its
database? Have you tried starting the server in a debug mode?

 Joe

If running the upgrade was your solution to make it work, you might have had
some of your files corrupted or deleted on the system somehow.. Running the
upgrade would not have impacted any configuration settings related to Java.

As far as LDAP is concerned, make sure your plugins are responding. Are the
other plugins such as the AR Server information plugin, etc working? Maybe your
plugin server has failed to start?

Hugo,

An incompatible version of Java may do a lot of other things but cannot prevent
the AR System from starting. The AR System Server itself does not depend on JRE
or JDK, its sub systems such as web services, mid tier, email engine etc do..

So somehow I doubt the update of Java has caused that problem. Its something
else.

If its UNIX, have you changed the environment or the .profile of the user that
starts the AR System in any way? I am assuming you are on windows because you
said you updated only the ar.cfg file upon updating Java.. On UNIX you would
have needed to update that in the server startup script too.

What OS are you dealing with? What’s the version of the AR System and its
database? Have you tried starting the server in a debug mode?

Listers;

I'm having one of those issues that everyone loves on your production
environment.

ARS doesn't start up, the error log only displays the startup message but
armonitor indicates a timeout every 900 seconds; this came from a Java update,
I ran the patch 11 installer just to try Remedy to pick up the new java version.

I've tried to point the OS and the ar.cfg file to a latest java version but no
luck, does anyone has seen this before?

Thanks

There is your problem then.. there should be a startup line for the plugin
server.. Without that line or if that line is commented out, the plugin server
will not start..

Do you have another working server to compare the armonitor.cfg file to?

I don’t have one or I would have pulled up the plugin server startup line and
showed you what it should look like..

If you have a test or development server that’s working, look at the

What is the plugin server port?? The plugin server startup on armonitor.cfg
should tell you what port the ARS is trying to start the plugin server on.. Is
there anything else running on that port?

Use rpcinfo –p (I think it works on windows too) to see if you find any other
processes using the plugin server port..

There is your problem then.. there should be a startup line for the plugin
server.. Without that line or if that line is commented out, the plugin server
will not start..

Do you have another working server to compare the armonitor.cfg file
to?

I don’t have one or I would have pulled up the plugin server startup line
and showed you what it should look like..

If you have a test or development server that’s working, look at the
armonitor.cfg file and copy the startup line to your server that’s not
working..
Make sure though that the paths match – if it doesn’t match make the necessary
change to make it match..

The armonitor.cfg file looks fine.. the default memory allocation for the jvm
used by the plugin server (512) should be ok. But lets have a look at some
logs...

Do you see the plugin process running at all? (Check all system processes
through task manager).. Or does it not start at all??

Can you try enabling the plugin logs and then restart the server and see what
gets reported to the plugin log file? You will need to check the Plugin Logs
file setting in the Log files section of the Server Information..
