Its something else. If its UNIX, have you changed the environment or the .profile of the user that starts the AR System in any way? I am assuming you are on windows because you said you updated only the ar.cfg file upon updating Java.. On UNIX you would have needed to update that in the server startup script too. Well after a couple of tests, and running again the installer, assigning ports instead using portmapper even using portmapper and tcp ports still throwing errors while accessing the Overview console... the funny part is that there are no errors on plugin detailed log... But lets have a look at some logs... Do you see the plugin process running at all? (Check all system processes through task manager).. Or does it not start at all?? Can you try enabling the plugin logs and then restart the server and see what gets reported to the plugin log file? You will need to check the Plugin Logs file setting in the Log files section of the Server Information.. The armonitor.cfg file looks fine.. the default memory allocation for the jvm used by the plugin server (512) should be ok. But lets have a look at some logs... Running the upgrade would not have impacted any configuration settings related to Java. As far as LDAP is concerned, make sure your plugins are responding. What is the plugin server port?? The plugin server startup on armonitor.cfg should tell you what port the ARS is trying to start the plugin server on.. Is there anything else running on that port? The AR System Server itself does not depend on JRE or JDK, its sub systems such as web services, mid tier, email engine etc do.. So somehow I doubt the update of Java has caused that problem. Recently we had our production server not start because we had a file in the C Root folder called "Program" The system seemed to think this was a folder not an empty file. It was caused by xcopy.
