[AsburyPark] Re: AC - Asbury Park Parallels

2008-12-21 Thread sharon_b283
Nice thought, but the thing about living here, is WE have to worry,
since a 13M deficit, will result in loss of some services. I just
hate it, when someone posts that we shouldn't worry about how Asbury
Park looks, just fiddle while Rome burns, huh?

If you don't live here, please keep your cheeky little criticism to
yourself! If you want to visit, just visit and don't come down or up
here, with a pen and pad, to note what you don't like about this town.
It's bad enough, when we ourselves KNOW what SHOULD have been done,
was illegal to have been done, taking liberties with property you
DON'T own, just because you developed a portion of the City. Nobody
elected YOU, Mr. Developer, so please heed the laws like everybody else!

Some of us DO frequent the restaurants, shops and what have you, but
there are those who just can't afford the high priced drinks and what
passes for food! I'm not one of them, but I sometimes feel like I'm
being fleeced at the door, so I go elsewhere! A woman's perogative.
Some of you snotty nosed, corporate types, won't be able to afford
it either when you retire! No, I don't go to those early bird
senior places, yet!

I found myself in a modest priced restaurant one day and the waitress
asked , do you want the senior special? I looked puzzled at my
spouse, wondering what the waitress was talking about, then she
realized, I didn't either and explained that on Wednesday, Seniors get
a discount!

Yep, it was Wednesday and I didn't know these deals existed! I
began paying attention in restaurants since my hair IS gray! I hadn't
really thought of myself as a Senior until that moment. Oh well!
Anyway, Asbury Park USED to be affordable to any income. It no longer
is, so for those of us who have 10 plus years invested in calling this
place, home, I hope you see the point I'm making.

If AP keeps pricing out long-timers, the economy will force many of us
to leave and then you bottomless pits of money can have the place, to
yourself! So what happened to the 1st Ave. Pavilion, that USED to be
the Senior Center? Inquiring minds want to know!

Staggering wealth for only a few, glamorized constantly on TV and the
internet. There's a LOT of crime, committed by those who feel left
behind! Those of us who aren't overtaken by the false images are
the conscience of a country and government run amok, which is why
Obama won the election. The American people aren't asleep because we
voted with our feet. As far as extraordinary thinking, thank Bush for
thinking that he can run a country on less taxes for the rich, okay?
That's why 750 Billion was given away to Wall St. and the industry
that could use some help was told to go to hell!

Bush is still running amok, giving part of the 750B to the auto
industry! All of the positions HE gave, were to his friends who had
NO expertise for the agencies they were hired to run! Ask Condi Rice!
She can play a MEAN piano, but has NO expertise in the State
Department! She's too busy proving that she's worthy! Same for the
singing Attorney General from Missouri, who placed drapes over
statues he found to be racy in the Halls of Justice, or the short
Alberto Gonzalez who thought it to be perfectly normal to torture
prisoners at Abu Graib and Gitmo!

No dear, Bush executed a smooth coup d'etat, when he took office,
thanks to his father, the former head of the CIA and the Carlyle
Group, okay? He couldn't do it for himself, but he sure gave Junior
what he wanted, so appearances aren't what they seem. The Bushes set
about to destroy any semblance of a democracy here and in the Middle
East, by occupying countries they deemed to be THEIR Manifest
Destiny! It's what entitlement is all about!

If you think viewing porn on the internet, substitutes the real

[AsburyPark] Sound, Pictures and Story from last Council Meeting of 08 on Asbury Radio Now

2008-12-21 Thread radio881gal
Hi everybody -
Happy holidays!! I hope to write some cards out tomorrow. But if I
don't get to it, you know I care... (Oh, god, that sounds so
insincere.) Hey, if I didn't love you would I spend hours on sound
files and ftp-ing? The council meeting for the mostpart is represented
up there on www.asburyradio.com right now.
So you'll be glad to hear that the city reached an agreement with
Paramount Homes, developers of North Beach, to pay $560,000 in taxes -
some time in 2009. Yes, I hope it's soon, too.
And, we no longer have to separate our recycling. Some people knew
this already. It will be official in the new calendar, but it's in
effect now!!! Eureeka. It takes so little to make me happy these days...
Hope Santa is good to you!!
Maureen

Re: [AsburyPark] Re: It's A Wonderful Life in Asbury Park, but....

2008-12-21 Thread MarioAPNJ
Hi Maureen,

Guess I should have left the bank part out; you're the 3rd person to comment
on that issue.
I wasn't focused too much on that aspect, though I found it funny the DA
finally said the author has a cynical sense of humor.

The two points I meant to highlight:

1. The idea that Pottersville (with all its entertainments) would have
been a much more fun place to be than a stultifying Bedford Falls (a Condo
Falls
with its mainstream boring-ness); and

2. “The reason is that it is a resort, and it has built an economy around
that” reminds me of the debate about keeping the focus in AP on its resort
possibilities.

Don't let it interfere with your sleep.

Pleasant dreams. And thanks for the sound files.

Hi Mario - Was the charge theft? Or failure to meet a deposit to the Feds?
If it was a deposit then the money would cover it - wasn't there a midnight
deadline? Doesn't sound like theft to me if there was a
midnight deadline...Please check this out. I won't be able to sleep...
Merry Christmas, Mario!

[AsburyPark] Re: Duke and Stanley - Clydesdale Horses in Asbury Park?

As promised...

Duke, on the left is afraid of lightning... I always try my best to know
all of you! Stanley is nice and comfortable.

Those may not be Clydesdales, but they sure are big horses! As Tom
Gilmore would say Only in Asbury Park!

Don't worry Rita, I think that they got their shoes elsewhere.

Merry Christmas,

Glenn

Haha - she promised to post pictures later tonight, I will share them.

If I am not able to make personal contact with my Asbury Park friends,
please have a very enjoyable Holiday and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
