[AsburyPark] Parking Permits

2011-04-23 Thread wernerapnj

Hmmm What's wrong with this picture?

You purchase your $30 parking permit to park in front of your home
... or so you think.

All the spaces are taken and you end up parking a block away in any case...
... making your $30 permit moot.

-

Note: Many communities that have high usage parking needs adjacent to
residential areas (such as train stations, theaters, etc) will issue resident
permits AND create a parking area for Resident Permit Only usage. Which
guarantees that residents (tax payers) are not inconvenienced.

Clearly the parking NEEDS and PROCESS have not been completely thought through
regarding the beachfront.

[AsburyPark] Complaints

2011-04-23 Thread wernerapnj

When did complaints become a negative thing?

I recall that many places had a Complaint Box..
Businesses routinely encourage feedback from customers...
How do things improve if no one complains?...

Process Quality Management (PQM) -

It was discovered that fixing a problem in a product after it has been made is
expensive and time consuming. Preventing a problem from getting into the
product is much more desirable. Thinking through all the contingencies in the
Process and assuring a Quality Product before it is released is good business
sense.

'Complaints' are nothing more than notifications of flaws or problems and
should be encouraged to get better quality output by changing the process.

Applies to many things in life and planning... except, apparently, in Asbury
Park.

Here it's - 'Shut up and Drink the Cool-Aid or move out'.

[AsburyPark] Re: Parking lines on 1st Ave. btwn Kingsley and Bergh

2011-04-23 Thread 2fast4u

Hinge:

First, you are NOT a whiner. This is a forum about what ails
Asbury and this is but ONE of a slew of valid complaints over the years.

Two, despite the absence of posts here lately, the group has NOT
died a natural death. We the residents are NEVER considered, notified, etc.,
for lack of better words; they just fall on VERY deaf ears!

Three, not to knock the cost of a parking permit, I pay $35.00 a month
for the privilege of parking underground. Double that to 2 spots at
$70.00 a month times 12 and it's $840.00 a year. We CHOSE to go this route
years ago because of snow, our ages, etc.

Four, like Tinton Falls that issue parking permits with their signature, green
maple leaf identification, ALL residents of Asbury
Park SHOULD have a parking sticker in light of the crowds this area
generates from May through September and special events on said
boardwalk. We ALL pay taxes here and to try and squeeze SOME residents over
others sound unconstitutional. Cars without the
sticker couold be towed with proper signage ON the blocks designated.
Asbury Park receives UEZ funds and THAT SHOULD have covered the costs!

Lastly, FIVE, a resident, ANY resident has the right to differ with
decisions affecting them, their lifestyle, quality of life issues and
any damned thing else that bothers, bugs or aggravate them. This affects you
directly. I feel you. For whatever reason others think what they want, ignore
the obvious. You have been and will continue
to be an alert observer of what has become almost an experiment.
As long as you have breath, Agitate in the words of Malcolm. I
HEAR YOU!

WE DESERVE FREE PARKING!

It's not even worth trying to reason with people on your opinions in this

residents of my street weren't notified, and I'm a crybaby. I wonder why
the family 2 houses away from me will park for free and I'm a crybaby. I
wonder why the street I live on, that has had a perpetual curb flood for most
of the past 6 years (it's not a puddle, it's a block long) isn't fixed and
I'm a crybaby and I get more comparisons to NYC. I know all about NYC. I
worked there and commuted there. My whole original point was amazingly
simple...notify the residents in advance, is that so hard to fathom? Next, I
got to watch lines painted over potholes, and not even to the curb. Why?
Because the street on my block is a mess, and in my mind, as crazy as it
might seem, one would think that fixing the street before wasting the money
to paint the parking lines would probably be a good idea. And for that, I'm a
 crybaby
Meanwhile, the guy who lives here part time, and 6 blocks away otherwise,
fully understands my perspective and feels perfectly fine about lowering the
level of the conversation by name calling.

No sorry don't think I missed the point. Where do you come off saying that
I think we deserve free parking?
Let me try this again refering back to the initial point of paid parking -
if Asbury Park is considering charging certain residents $15 for parking,
and presently some residents are charged $30 per year for parking, then
perhaps the charges should be $30 per year --for all residents if within a
certain # of blocks from the beach/downtown, if that is considered a
  premium area to park.
And just so there's no misunderstanding I have no problem paying the $30.
The $30 is fair. We park in the garage, the street parking is utilized by
  my college-age children.
So this will conclude my discussion on this topic. Please feel free to
infer whatever additional meaning you desire into my post.
  Peace to you.

You miss he point. How many free spaces do you deserve? Just say it so

deal with the meters. You live close to the waterfront and action.
Visitors will park there. The city is helping you. Even though I bought
in the 600 block, 7 years ago I made sure I still had plenty of parking
OFF SITE. My wife thought I was nuts, there was no one here. But I saw it
   as it WOULD be.

So what's the solution? Free resident parking permits for all of us? Or
do we pay for them? I can't buy them because I do not live in your area.
   What do you want?

Werner, I'm only going here because you brought it up...

There is a difference between constructive and destructive input. And too
often you tend to fall on the wrong side of that line.

We've traded comments on this board for many years, and I've always noted that
your tremendous experience, that could provide so much value, is wasted largely
because of your delivery and inability to see the value in other's ideas. I'll
paraphrase - but you once told me something to the effect that others didn't
deserve their opinion because they weren't as knowledgeable as you are. But we
all live here, work here, love it here. And knowledge does not make right.
It provides context for decisions. So do people's visions, desires and
experiences that you often discount because they are not knowledge based as
you would define it.

So by discounting other's opinions and constantly complaining about virtually
everything that others have wanted to do/have done, you've been discounted.
Not on the merits - you really do know your stuff. Your complaining has been
so constant, so myopic, that I think people have long-ago stopped judging the
merits.

So to your point - pointing out flaws is a positive thing. If it's done with
wisdom, tact, grace and a sense of focusing on the big issues rather than
literally everything you don't like. Otherwise it's just whining. And nobody
listens to a whiner.

Sorry if that seemed harsh. But you brought it up.

[AsburyPark] NEW METROPOLITAN APTS and guess - PARKING

2011-04-23 Thread oakdorf
In today's APP:
http://goo.gl/hWcgB

the developer wants to have 1.5 parking spaces per unit..

In my experience, most people in NEW JERSEY - when it's 2 people, have TWO
CARS. Or have a friend that has a car - or they have 2 cars - especially if
they are shelling out $500,000 for a 2 bedroom.

Asbury needs MORE sleek 2 bedroom apts priced upto $1500 in the downtown - not
$2k. Functional Then go up from there.

With parking.

Well that could be alleviated by having resident parking only in those areas.
But you have no absolute right to park in front of your house. I pay almost
$12k in taxes yest some renter of a 1bedroom apartment parks in front of my
house in AP. Does it bother me, yes, but its just too damn bad. Crybabies.

All you ever done is complain. When complaining becomes habitual and almost in
the face of everything, then its negative. Be part of the solution and not the
problem.

Dump my house, yard and flowers, dog. If the kids want to stay, they double up.
$1900 and done. No taxes and cheper then buying the thing.

Go to Monroe Towers and get a rehabbed unit. Building should and will be neat.
Someday.

I know why my tenants never want to leave. They have a great deal.

To paint a pic... I am a 37 yr old woman (although I think I do not look a day
over 25). I am 5'3, about ugghhh 120 lbs. Basically the least intimidating
person. Ever. I just walked from the Stone Pony to my house on 6th. I do have
to say I am very comfortable in urban environments- hell if I can land at the
New Delhi, India airport on my own, surely I can handle Asbury Park. On my
travels at 1130 pm, I passed a gay couple having an argument and a heavy-set
woman walking her pug. What's my point? Yeah, the lines aren't straight, the
parking sucks, but at least it IS getting better. I am not afraid. You should
not be either and that IS progress.
