Found this on the city's website today - FYI PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on the 9th day of May, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. a Public Hearing will be held in City Council Chambers, located in City Hall, One Municipal Plaza, Asbury Park, New Jersey regarding the City of Asbury Park's application to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Green Acres Program for a corrective amendment to the Asbury Park Recreation and Open Space Inventory. The amendment will remove a 25' by 100' portion of Block 117 Lot 1, commonly known as 500 Cookman Avenue or Overlook Park. [AsburyPark] Tile work
I have a friend who's looking for some tile work. He does ceramic tile installation (and other stuff too -for instance, he did the cool tile at the Asbury Lanes for Mel, and all of the quarry tile on my back patio and all around my pool)and is also quite reasonable in his pricing. Basically you just go to Home Depot or your favorite tile supplier - pick out your tile - he'll help you if you need to figure out how much to buy, etc... He'll tell you how much grout/mastic/leveling you need to buy - and he'll even go with you to the store to help you carry it if need be. You pay for and arrange for transport of your own materials though - so there's no mark-up. He works quick, cleans up after himself, and is very fair in his pricing. [AsburyPark] It's a rock and roll thing...
Hmmm... I thought that I'd posted this already with clever little snipets, but alas, I must have been mistaken! I know it's easy to get caught up in the politics, development issues, and day to day challenges we face even at home in the lives we've chosen in being a part of this tremendous little city of Asbury Park. But sometimes you have to put that all aside and TOTALLY ROCK OUT!!! That being said, here's a chance to kick back and forget about life's worries (if only for 45 minutes or so) and listen to the delightful intonations of the Carl Chesna Band - or some of them anyway -our Drummer/Percussionist, Jay Mack got called back to work that Spelling Bee show he does drums for :(But anyway, please join us: Carl Chesna (Vocals and Acoustic Guitar), Amy Garland (Cello) and Andrea Harbison (Back-up Vocals), for our First Saturday/March Madness show at The Saint on Main Street and Monroe. That's tomorrow night, Saturday the 4th, at 9:30 pm. We're doing a bunch of songs that will be on our forthcoming CD, which will be released later this year. Come by if you can - the doors open at around 8pm, and there's music straight through until around midnite. I think there are about 6 acts tomorrow. If you've never heard any of my stuff before, and would like to sample some, please check out my first CD on CDBABY.COM. Okay, I know it seems all I post about is food lately... But this is pretty interesting news. Sister Sue's (on Bond Street) is open for business! Monday - Saturday 11am - 10pm! BYOB! Here's what's especially great about this place: There's been an ongoing conversation floating from a few different sectors of our community discussing variety (or lack thereof) in late night dining. Then there are the sub-concerns such as: healthful options, vegetarian/vegan options, something other than a diner or another Italian restaurant (I'm Italian, by the way, and must have pasta on a daily basis or I'll go into anaphylactic shock, but come on!) Well, this place has it all, and it's reasonably priced, and the staff is so over-the-top nice, that you can't help but love them. The fare is the owner's grandmother's (Sister Sue) recipies, and features the cuisine of Trinidad Tobago. Some of the words in the dishes names may sound familiar if you're familiar with Indian food: Aloo (potato) and Chana (chickpea), Roti, and, of course, Curry. But I have to say it was nothing like Indian food. It's truly its own thing, and definitely worthy of your checking it out if you're into ethnic foods. [AsburyPark] Benefit for kids with cancer tonight on the Boardwalk!
Hey everybody! Just wanted to make sure you all know about tonight's fund-rasing event. We've put together quite a little party to benefit two charities - the Asbury Park Boys Girls Club, and Sunshine Kids- dedicated to kids with cancer... Michele Schaffer (of the legendary Be Gallery) and I have organized the fundraiser, and Exhibit A was generous enough to host the event! Here's the deal: I assembled a group of about 20 local personalities (business owners, politicians, etc...) who have volunteered there patience and time to complete Paint by Numbers paintings. We're going to be auctioning them off tonight silent- auction style at Exhibit A gallery, on the boardwalk at 5th Avenue - (right near Howard Johnsons). In addition to bidding on the artwork, you can also contribute by donating money for the food and drinks that have been donated by local restaurants, or for the brownies and fudge that my Mom baked. And you can always just donate cash - we just figured if we have 20 paintings and a couple hundred people, there should be some other way for people to contribute to these important organizations, and food and drinks seemed the most sensible... There will also be appearances by Victoria Styles and Ceemour Cox (outrageous female impersonators), and DJ Dehydrated Pirate has put together some crazy mixes for the festivities. The benefit begins at 7 pm and goes until about 10. Since this is a silent auction, we'll stop bids around 9:30 so that people can collect their paintings. They all look really great! People completing the paintings were given total artistic freedom, and some really ran with it, so you should definitely come by just to check it out! Billy Meisch's Jackson Pollack approach is really incredible, and Father David's Last Supper is also a treat. Plus it's going to be a really great scene... So that's it in a nutshell: tonight, Sunday August 21st, 7-10 pm, at Exhibit A at Fifth Avenue on the boardwalk. A fundraiser benefiting Sunshine Kids and the Asbury Park Boys and Girls club. Music, Food, Wine, Paint-by-Numbers, Drag Queens, and all to raise money for two great causes... What else could you ask for as we wind down Road Trip Weekend? See you there!
