[AsburyPark] Re: AC - Asbury Park Parallels

2008-12-21 Thread sharon_b283
Nice thought, but the thing about living here, is WE have to worry,
since a 13M deficit, will result in loss of some services. I just
hate it, when someone posts that we shouldn't worry about how Asbury
Park looks, just fiddle while Rome burns, huh?

If you don't live here, please keep your cheeky little criticism to
yourself! If you want to visit, just visit and don't come down or up
here, with a pen and pad, to note what you don't like about this town.
It's bad enough, when we ourselves KNOW what SHOULD have been done,
was illegal to have been done, taking liberties with property you
DON'T own, just because you developed a portion of the City. Nobody
elected YOU, Mr. Developer, so please heed the laws like everybody else!

Some of us DO frequent the restaurants, shops and what have you, but
there are those who just can't afford the high priced drinks and what
passes for food! I'm not one of them, but I sometimes feel like I'm
being fleeced at the door, so I go elsewhere! A woman's perogative.
Some of you snotty nosed, corporate types, won't be able to afford
it either when you retire! No, I don't go to those early bird
senior places, yet!

I found myself in a modest priced restaurant one day and the waitress
asked , do you want the senior special? I looked puzzled at my
spouse, wondering what the waitress was talking about, then she
realized, I didn't either and explained that on Wednesday, Seniors get
a discount!

Yep, it was Wednesday and I didn't know these deals existed! I
began paying attention in restaurants since my hair IS gray! I hadn't
really thought of myself as a Senior until that moment. Oh well!
Anyway, Asbury Park USED to be affordable to any income. It no longer
is, so for those of us who have 10 plus years invested in calling this
place, home, I hope you see the point I'm making.

If AP keeps pricing out long-timers, the economy will force many of us
to leave and then you bottomless pits of money can have the place, to
yourself! So what happened to the 1st Ave. Pavilion, that USED to be
the Senior Center? Inquiring minds want to know!

2008-12-20 Thread Mike Hemeon
The unions are the reason Obama is in office you will see how much he throws
thbeir way when he is in office. Don't expect any change he has all insiders in
his administration. He will be a little lighter in the wallet Blago got caught
selling his Senate seat no cut for him.

There was always a lot of crime by those left behind becauee they are owed,
they are entitled. This is true even when the economy is good. Haven't read
anything on this board about those that were left behind that were mugging
people in AP during the black out. The greedy were stung by Madoff. He will be
sorry the people he crossed will kill him.

You don't like Condi Rice because she can speak English and can complete a
sentence without throwing an Ax or a duh in there. The same is true of
Colin Powell neither of which you can hold a candle. Maybe Bush should have
selected Fat Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson they would have represented the US
much better.  Maybe Jesse Jackson Jr could have bought the seat like he tried
to do in Chicago.

Yes indeed people elected Obama because of his vast experience after all he was
a communite organizer.

All I can say is I hope some of you, or your families, cross paths with the
people that are released from Gitmo. Probably the last thing you will see
before the end.

America is all about money. Work on getting some instead of whining about
it. When Obama is president who will you complain about? Blacks are the only
minority in the country just ask them. That one way ticket is still here
waiting. How about Africa? They don't care if you are black there they will
kill you anyway. Still hating the country.

Staggering wealth for only a few, glamorized constantly on TV and the
internet. There's a LOT of crime, committed by those who feel left
behind! Those of us who aren't overtaken by the false images are
the conscience of a country and government run amok, which is why
Obama won the election. The American people aren't asleep because we
voted with our feet. As far as extraordinary thinking, thank Bush for
thinking that he can run a country on less taxes for the rich, okay?
That's why 750 Billion was given away to Wall St. and the industry
that could use some help was told to go to hell!

Bush is still running amok, giving part of the 750B to the auto
industry! All of the positions HE gave, were to his friends who had
NO expertise for the agencies they were hired to run! Ask Condi Rice!
She can play a MEAN piano, but has NO expertise in the State
Department! She's too busy proving that she's worthy! Same for the
singing Attorney General from Missouri, who placed drapes over
statues he found to be racy in the Halls of Justice, or the short
Alberto Gonzalez who thought it to be perfectly normal to torture
prisoners at Abu Graib and Gitmo!

No dear, Bush executed a smooth coup d'etat, when he took office,
thanks to his father, the former head of the CIA and the Carlyle
Group, okay? He couldn't do it for himself, but he sure gave Junior
what he wanted, so appearances aren't what they seem. The Bushes set
about to destroy any semblance of a democracy here and in the Middle
East, by occupying countries they deemed to be THEIR Manifest
Destiny! It's what entitlement is all about!

If you think viewing porn on the internet, substitutes the real
thing, I have a bridge I want to sell you! You're right about one
thing, America IS all about money!

While you and others are out having fun enjoying the successes of developers
and some
entrepenurs the City sinks into a financial black hole. The fun will be short
lived if the
host dies of economic starvation. A $13M deficit does not concern you?

Some group members actually think of the holistic situation and consider the
public's
rights before those of developers and self indulgence.

Hip, Friendly, Adult Playground... does not address the issue at all, why even
bring that
up? In spite of your accolades do you want Asbury Park to die for lack of
financial
solvency?

It's most likely that not being local, living the tortured road that is Asbury
Park's recent
legacy, allows Newbee to crystallize the problem into simple terms. Fresh eyes
on a
problem should be welcomed.

If you feel that a City $13M in debt is not a problem, you should rethink your
priorities
while sipping those cocktails.

2008-12-19 Thread Gabrielle Obre
I'm not surprised you don't get my ramblings.

I was responding to Jack. He regularly expresses concern about
materialism/over consumption and the like. Commodity Fetishism is a
term coined by Marx to describe a part of the behavior that seems to
concern Jack. It was helpful to me to read about it so I wanted to
share it with him. Great thinkers, different ideas often shed light on
issues. Carl Jung gives me some comfort, Paul Krugman...I like to share.

yes, I regularly have fun. I enjoyed a little of the Cameo last night
a little of Paradise. Sometimes I don't have fun. Often the day is
filled with the ordinary concerns of feeding, clothing and sheltering
myself.

yeah i should probably pay more attention, though i don't care about
the time lines, AP continues to get more beautiful all the time. The
lights are really pretty right now. i would care about gross
malfeasance, which may or may not be happening. its jersey after all.
its the US after all. the entire planet is in debt so 13 million in AP
isn't going to make me lose sleep. i'm not gonna freak over the budget
when few others seem to be. did you read it?

The things that have concerned me have been the community. the lower
income people. Is there enough care and reverence for them. I have
learned that there is a huge amount of community care in this town. I
feel pretty confident that someone doing the best that they can with
shitty circumstances is cared for here. Is that care the best it could
be? probably not. Our entire approach toward social justice could use
a revolution. I loathe the help approach, I think people help
others so that they can feel better about themselves as opposed to
seeing others as ourselves. its a big question, how best do we serve.
you could have a lengthy series of discussions on it, which I would
love. I am still fantasizing about idea festivals.

I just care about different things than you. and I am in love with AP.
Maybe you have difficulty with love. Maybe your sad because you don't
love your town. Like one of those people in a passionless relationship
enviously watching a juicy couple dig one another. AP is the hot
couple. You and your town appear to be loveless. yeah we have our
issues and you and your mystery town have yours.

i don't actually think you are a genuine person coming from a genuine
place. some kind of schemer stoking shit perhaps. who knows. im gonna
get back to lovin the town i live in. warts and all. thats what love
is newbee. and the world could could use lots more of it.

The hits just keep on coming.  I wonder what the guy in the Mercedes is doing
these days? What makes you think that if you have money you don't question
anything? If you want to keep it you better question everything!

Americans have become very lazy and relationships require work. A computer you

Isn't this a symptom of a cultures reliance on a consumer mentality?
America is all about money. We worship it more then we worship our own history.
It also may be the case that American's care less about historic buildings then
they used to
because our entertainment choices are moving more toward passive stay at home
thing.
Our youth is happier online then in the real world.
I saw results from a poll yesterday that showed about half of us would rather
give up sex
then the internet.
I recently got the current issue of Weird NJ and there was a depressing
article about the
current fate of Waterloo Village, which is very similar to Allaire State Park.
It's currently
rotting away and abandoned since last year, because of NJ budget cuts.

Lots and lots of money to knock down and build newer, higher and
bigger - as long as you have someone else's money and fuzzy projections.

Once they make the road WIDER further cutting off /east /west access,
they'll hire new consultants to come up with a plan to make it safer to

Lots of money in the fund that has to be spent otherwise the casinos

has the state reduced the size of the Casino Control Commisson...
