I had felt bad initially but wonder if that's just the peddler's view of the
world.

Yeah, I felt bad for him too. I posted things about that a few times. I was
overjoyed to see
a bike store on the boardwalk when I moved to AP.
But, I agree with you. He's bitter, and probably in denial about the fact that
maybe he's the
reason it didn't work out.
Ironically, he has this on his website -
Fantastic New Location!
   Witty New Name!
  Same Bad Attitude!!!

Nice

I have a very sucessful word-of mouth business, simply because of who I
am, and how I conduct myself. Yes, 10% of my customers go out tounge
lashed, never to return. I wouldn't have it any other way. I stand up
for what I believe, and was taught not to take shit from anybody.
Hinge, they would call you cringe if you knew how many asburians
still patronize my business (i send the high maintenance ones with the
low budget bikes back south of deal lake). That says something in
itself, doesn't it? See, as a people, asburians are like any other
group. Each needs to be judged as an individual. However as a place, it
is an incontrovertable shithole. I changed the name the day after
someone came in stating, I'd rather give my business to someone who
has asbury Park in the name. That's true, talk about lame!

You said it all Mr. Word of Mouth.
I used to work in the bicycle biz myself.
10 years at the Peddler in LB.
I get asked advice about where to buy bikes from friends all the time.
Guess where i'm not going to send them?

This is neither pro nor con anything.

The above post made me laugh because it reminded me of the Soup Nazi.

Several years ago there was a small Mr. Shrimp fish market and eatery on Rt
35 in Wall near the Shopright. I had passed by that area many many times
over the years. Never noticed it. Then I heard some people talking about how
good the food was, but they called him the Shrimp Nazi.

I found out why. I went in, ordered and ate. It was great. I meant to
compliment him and told him I never knew he was there because his sign was too
far back and couldn't be seen from the road. His response:
I do great business and if some people can't find me, Fu#k 'em.

He died not long after, and the new owners moved to a bigger place on Rt 71
in Belmar.

Mr. Shrimp.
I loved that guy, and that place. I had exactly the same experience.
Eventually, he warmed
up and turned out to be a pretty nice guy. I went there a few times and let him
pick what
he thought i'd like. I was very sad when I heard he passed away. The new Mr.
Shrimp is
pretty great too.
