See, it's a matter of taste. Maybe I'm too old school to assimilate to things like Pier Village. All I can say is that of course some people will flock to something like that, because it's all they know anymore. But compared to a earlier time in our culture, Pier Village is an abomination. Nobody will ever be able to convince me that it's attractive in any way. I find it sad that the next few generations will accept our strip mall culture and things like Pier Village as the best our culture can offer. But that's just me. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, dfsavgny dfsavgny@ wrote: October 11, 2007 City's Virtues to Be Sold in New Global Ad Campaign By PATRICK McGEEHAN I worked on Madison ave for a short period next NYC Comp offices. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: NYC Big Time PR
Don't forget that for years malls were the coolest thing, but plenty of towns are moving back to the downtown approach now. There are many malls around the country that are closing or becoming different than they once were (see Seaview Square as a local example). The idea of things like Pier Village may be destination bound, but it also could be a fad like the malls were. And as far as people leaving New Jersey, I wonder if that takes account for all of the immigrants moving into the state because it just might balance things out. After a short trip back to Virginia, I can say that from VA to NJ everything is starting to look the same. There are chain restaurants, mini-outdoor malls, and everything wherever you go. New Jersey is not the only place losing an identity. The major chains are on a mission to remove local identity from the country and they are largely succeeding. So, why are these people leaving to? I'd say for lower mortgages. Outside our borders doesn't really offer more or look different than Jersey - just may be a little cheaper, that's all. Again, where local governments have ordinances that control grwoth, design etc. So, why are these people leaving to? I'd say for lower mortgages. TAXES. At least you have a few years in other places, like Indiana, befreo all the people from NJ start bithcing they dont have garbage pick up or have to take their own recycling or not enough police. Where will we all wind up? NJ moves to PA, PA hates NJ people, so they move to Ohio or VA or Upstate NY. Move to Dallas or Houston, then those people move to Austin.. or Mexico and the mexicans get so pissed becasue we build home depots and everything right across the border and move there, etc... Again, where local governments have ordinances that control grwoth, design etc. Take Tinton Falls for example. They approved building a Home Depot in an area where there are already 2 or 3 Home Depots less then a few short miles away. Ridiculous. We don't need it, but they let it happen anyhow. More green space disappears with orange in it's place. And what happened to American manufacturing. Gone. Terrible. Recently I watched The War on PBS and it really showed how much America has lost since then in terms of manufacturing. We taught the world how to built quality things, and then gave it away. Yahoo! What doesn't get as much play in the media is the number of people who move back to the Northeast after having left for greener pastures. Another matter of taste, I guess. Like my relatives who moved back to NNJ cities because moves to Florida, (then to Ocean County's retirement sterility) didn't measure up to their expectations. They missed their old neighborhoods, friends, families, and city services. Others I know of have moved back, or plan to, from Arizona and from Las Vegas. ** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Our downtown offers nothing for that group (people with expendable incomes). First we need the downtown to be open more often - Original Message From: oakdorf [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2007 11:29:26 AM Subject: [AsburyPark] Re: NYC Big Time PR --- In [EMAIL PROTECTED] ups.com, dfsavgny [EMAIL PROTECTED] . wrote: October 11, 2007 City's Virtues to Be Sold in New Global Ad Campaign By PATRICK McGEEHAN I worked on Madison ave for a short period next NYC Comp offices.
