Jan. 1 issue of triCityNews is mainly all about the WEB coverage
of the NYT
print and WEB article Newspaper Shuns Web:
Half the cover page; every word of the publisher's message, p. 6
and
spilling over to cover every inch of space on pp. 46--47,
including mail, and
trailing off finally on page 56. Hyper-Boosterish, to modify
Carr's word.

More coverage than any other issue in the paper, including the
upcoming
 city
 council elections.

DJ to the NYT: We want people to think of Asbury Park as the
center of the
 universe.

Not a word this week about any of these Asbury Park stories, all
covered in
 the Coaster this week:

AP artist Sternesky whose work will be displayed in Eatontown, p. 2

AP train station purchased by Visiting Nurses, p. 7

AP's Artscap winners of Imagine Asbury Park street banner
contest
 announced, p. 17

AP BOE hosting meeting regarding a new uperintendent, p. 19

AP Chamber of Commerce's record membership and new full-time
director, p. 18

 AP's Golden Age of R 'n' B event, p. 27

AP's First Satrurday with Frosty the Snowman, p. 5

AP's Chief Kinmon reports decrease in violent crime, p. 1

AP's Interfaith Neighbors is in need of additional funding.

Thanks Mario for being specific in your illustration. We all wish DJ
and TCN luck, but it ain't a newspaper and the NYT story was
misleading. I have thought often about the relationship between the
web and print and whether publishers should make the print available
on the web for free. Some do and some don't. I pay for some and not
(refuse) for others.

But I suspect that print may be in the same position of buggy whip
manufacturers. All of this could have been the substance of the NYT
story rather than the misleading success story of our local Pennysaver.

The success of the newspaper and the nationwide attention that is
getting speaks for itself.

and DO NOT omit results. You will see the story in other languages.
The mere repetition of that story by others does not add one iota of
 truth to the original story.

Difference being they aren't just repeating the story - they are
debating, and even extending it with all the interview requests for Dan.

I've received a few emails from people asking me why those on this
board have such a hostility toward TCN and seem determined to rain on a
very sunny day for the paper.

Good neighbors usually revel in one another's success.

Another theme was that the detractors on this board seem to be outside
of what other folks around the triCity region are saying about the
story.

That of course came as no surprise.

2009-01-03 Thread oakdorf
...my friend is a big shot a large print advertising company. They
merged with another co a few months ago. They do inserts layouts
distribution etc.

The pain they have begun to feel - Boscovs, Circuit City etc etc - no
more stores - no more ads once or twice a week.

We then got into an 8 hour conversation about transformation to the
web - a problem their co is facing.

Why even have a web presence at all or accept ads via email or
advertise ad rates - on the web? Why not use regular mail or the
tele? So the web/net does have a publication.

Flip it around - there are many, many large and small Internet
publications or blogs that are or were very successful - profitable.

Without the net RentLaw.com would not be around in paper form. And it
wouldn't of been picked up those paper book publishers referring to
it or newspapers writing about it.

EVERY co should have some kind of web presence. TCN does. Imagine
those archives on the net

PS - a couple people joined the Asbury Park GROUP on linkedin.com

Go to linkedin.com and search for the group ASbury Park and join.

We'll have real who's who in and thinking of Asbury.
