The City hired Lou under contract, with duties contained therein, stating what his duties were, etc., the pay was an incentive for him to become the Police Director WITH olice powers, etc., arrest powers, which is why he went on patrol and the question he asked those white kids is the same question that any Black that has lived here over time knows that a portion of the west side is where the small-time dope dealers hang out! Springwood, Borden, DeWitt, Bangs, and the notorious Prospect ave., right by the Middle School. Once you are trusted here, Blacks will tell you, don't let your kids hang down here! Funny thing is, a Black person couldn't get a good hair cut UNLESS they went on the Av! I attended St. Peter Claver's church. I HAD to go down there. I wasn't afraid of my people, I was afraid of the rep! My kids went to Catechism 3 times a week there, but the Sisters picked them up and brought them home. A frien opened a restaurant across the street but now it's a drug hang-out corner! Just drive by and evening or certain time of the day and you'll probably see anything on that corner. Only Newark's Chief can wear 5 stars. When the Chiefs complained, Lou took off the stars and donned Eagles on his lapel, elevating himself to a full-blown Colonel, above the Chiefs. This is disrespectful in a Para- military organization. He's an embarrassment. Where exactly is the up side to keeping this guy? The whole police director experiment should be ended here in Asbury Park. It was an attempt by a previous City Counsel to exercise control of the Department. It failed. Professional Police should control the department. We should go back to having a Chief like most other New Jersey towns. Our last Chief, Gary Wheary, was terrific. Tom, I only have one disagreement with you (I am not informed as to the others). While some may have been brushed off by the police, I have called numerous times (I am becoming their biggest pain) over the past year and have always had them respond quickly. I don't know who you are, but your assertions of racism against me are way out of line. If you don't see fit to take it all back, it says more about you than me. This isn't racial against Lou. It's performance based. What do you have to say about the black officers that gave Jordan a vote of no confidence? I'd like to see a Chief of Police back in Asbury Park instead of a Civilian Director. I wouldn't object if it were an African American who is actually in line for the postion, as an example, Gilbert Reed. So what does that make me now, an Uncle Tom? The thing is,asbury park whites hate to see a blackman making that type of money. I remembered when they were looking for another lawyer, they picked one that wanted twice more money than the other was getting and noone said anything.And with the director position being eliminated ,so should the city mgr position.And as many raids as i have seen, seems like to me it is a success. You said that you only see a couple of police walking on the boardwalk, i say i see more. i ride everynight and check these things out. But i know there is racism in this city. i've seen it,heard of it, felt it. so don't say anything to me about racism.And if my statement was racist it's only because of what i've see and know. as far as proving it, i don't need to. travel around like i do and get the proof you need. I'm not racist, i'm just calling it the way i've seen it. Of course there are some great white people here as well as great blacks, but i'm speaking of the others who turn up their noses, don't speak, and mumble under their breaths. and like in the council meeting when he got the position said he doesn't deserve that type of pay.
