Thanks for your reply. this case happens sometimes, may be one twentieth.

yes,the ztdummy is using the RTC, and i make sure the USE_RTC had defined in
ztdummy.c.

and i will use the method in patch 13930.

Thanks.

Best wishs to you!

So this only happens sometimes? I'm wondering if ztdummy on your system
is using the RTC and that the RTC interrupt is stopping on your system
as in issue 13930 (http://issues.asterisk.org/view.php?id=13930)

If RTC is in use, you could try making sure that USE_RTC is not defined
in ztdummy.c.

OK, a few checks in the dahdi code (look, I spelt it right! :) and the

If you're already making system changes and updating your kernel, now
might be a good time to make the switch to dahdi. dahdi_dummy works
with recent kernels.

But otherwise, you might be interested in the history of dahdi_dummy.c
to get some hints about what you might need to do for ztdummy if you
want to make a local patch for that.

Your mother boards are probably not 100% the same, maybe a chipset is
newer and causing an interrupt problem. I've seen this before. Put
'acpi=off' in your kernel boot parameter line in the grub menu.lst
like this:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-686
root(hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18--686 root=/dev/sda1 ro acpi=off
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-686
savedefault

Reboot, and that should do it.

I remember having that issue once and I fixed it by changing a
configuration in the motherboard BIOS. It was related to the SATA hard
drive mode it was running on. The default configuration was set to
legacy mode I believe and when I changed it to enhanced mode the lost of
interrupts problem I was having went away. I had a Supermicro
motherboard in case you were curious.

There is no need to run ztcfg if you just want to use ztdummy.
The call to ztcfg is probably just part of some standard init script.

-v doesn't change the output . zaptel.conf is not needed for ztdummy, as
ztdummy does not handle spanconfig, start or whatever. It simply starts
operating at the moment it is probed.

ztdummy does not use the USB uhci host controller for timing in kernel
2.6 .

It seems that there are some problems with ztdummy rtc and the CentOS
kernel (or 2.6.18 in general? Anything that uses RTC? I hear suprisingly
few reports about it with the Etch kernel. I wonder if there is actually
a difference or just a report bias).

Jerry, glad you got it working. acpi=off did cross my mind, but I don't
really understand what it does, nor why it would help!

Well after conversations on the list (thanks so much for responses) and
much google searching
it comes down to adding a kernel boot command line of "acpi=off" to
grub.conf.

This keeps the real time clock ticking and playing wave files.

Thanks to all!

I'm using 32-bit as well, but it may depend on the hardware. I'm
using HP DL-380s and Debian (both etch and sarge had the same problems.)

I did nothing other than upgrade my kernel (and recompile zaptel, of
course) and it just started to work. I used to get a lot of those
missing interrupt errors to the console before, not now.

If zttest hangs, I'd suspect the drivers are loaded. Otherwise,
you'll get an error that it can't find a zap device (and playback
then works.)

All this machineray is not really required. All you need is to modprobe
ztdummy somewhere in the boot pcess . IIRC it can be even after asterisk
starts.

No real need to load any otyher modules. No need to run ztcfg. No need
to run anything else from the zaptel init.d script.

Sounds like the module got auto-unloaded due to not being in use.

I have found the most reliable way to invoke zaptel/ztdummy is using the
proper init script:

1. In your zaptel source directory, do "make config". That will create
/etc/rc.d/init.d/zaptel and the rcX.d links to it.
2. Likeewise, in your asterisk source directory, also do "make config"
if you haven't already. That will create /etc/rc.d/init.d/asterisk and
the rcX.d links.
3. Do "chkconfig zaptel on" and "chkconfig asterisk on" just to be sure.
4. Do "service zaptel start". That will load the modules and do any
configuration necessary. Try that and then watch /proc/interrupts.
5. Also do "service asterisk start".
6. When the system is booted up in future, zaptel and asterisk should
automatically start.

Just updated to 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 (i386), re-installed zaptel and ztdummy,
and the RTC interrupt counter is incrementing just fine.

Is this system used for other things, or could you try installing a
32-bit (i386) version of CentOS and trying again? 64-bit vs 32-bit
is the only think I can think of at the moment.

Also, what do you get from: fgrep RTC /var/log/messages

You are correct zttest hangs.

Hi Jerry,

Is that with ztdummy loaded or not? By default, Linux doesn't have anything
that uses the RTC interrupt, so without ztdummy it will usually stay at 1.

Once ztdummy and zaptel are loaded, then you should see it incrementing.
If not, that suggests a problem.

I have just installed ztdummy on a new system running 2.6.18-53.1.6.el5,
and it is incrementing fine. I didn't realise there was a newer kernel out;
I'll have to update and try again.

I didn't know the "watch" command - that's cool!

What kernel version are you using? (uname -a)

Tony,

/proc/interrupts shows:

   CPU0 CPU1
8: 1 0 IO-APIC-edge rtc

So the RTC is not incrementing.

uname -a shows x86_64 and Centos 5.1, 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5

There is something with Playback() where ztdummy helps, I have had
issues with skipping audio or gsm audio files that won't playback until
ztdummy is loaded.

I have seen this in 1.4 and in the 1.6 betas. I also think this guy
needs to recompile zaptel and look for errors in compiling.

Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy problem causing playback () to fail

2008-03-18 Thread Pete Kay
Hi,
I found another weird problem. If I don't have ztdummy, then when I connect
using a xlite in another computer within the same lan, I get errored:

00:40:08 Registering user '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
00:40:08 Failed registration for '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' with cause 'service
or option not implemented'
00:50:50 Registering user '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'

If I turned ztdummy on, I can connect.

Any idea why?

ztdummy is required by meetme application. If you have no intention to
use it, you might very well remove.

I've seen this problem once, however recompiling everything and
restarting helped me. I would suggest you just doing "make clean" on
zaptel and asterisk, then compile first zaptel, then asterisk.

2007-11-13 Thread Tony Plack
Well, I got it working.

Come to find out that it looks like version 2.6.18 of the kernel has issues with the RTC.  It has little to do with any of the other things that I tried.

I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.23.1 and on the first try, it comes up and runs with TSC.

ztdummy is working for me now.

I used the oldconfig to update the kernel from the debian 2.6.18-5-686 and compiled.  Runs well.

I will change BIOS options and other things on Wednesday, since we don't
have right now physical access to this server.

In other boxes ztdummy worked like a charm...

Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy, zttest

2007-11-12 Thread Tony Plack
Debian as well as everyone else  2.6.18-5

Zaptel is branch/1.4 latest.

The issue is not with Zaptel though...IMHO.  If you look at /proc/driver/rtc, I find:
rtc_time    : 14:34:27
rtc_date    : 2007-11-12
rtc_epoch    : 1900
alarm        : 16:30:31
DST_enable    : no
BCD        : yes
24hr        : yes
square_wave    : no
alarm_IRQ    : no
update_IRQ    : no
periodic_IRQ    : no
periodic_freq    : 1024
batt_status    : okay

If you notice, there is no periodic_IRQ.  That is the issue.  To me (and the kernels reported here) it is a Debian kernel problem.

If I turn off ACPI, Zaptel works, but the box performance is awful because other things, which depend on ACPI do not have interrupts.

I have read some places that if you have the Hard Drive Suppend in the BIOS enabled, you will get this situation.  However, I would check the /proc/driver/rtc to see that you have periodic_IRQ.

I also tried y-k (last week) with no results in that machine. That
computer is a Dell PowerEdge 860. I just checked now in other machine
(standard Pentium 4) and just loading ztdummy and running zttest is
working. In other machine, running ztdummy and zttest too.

I don't know why this PowerEdge 860 is not working in that way :-(

Latest bristuff for 1.2 is y-k . See http://bristuff.org/ .
However the bristuff Zaptel patch has no effect on ztdummy or Zaptel
timing.

I know that you asked to Tony Plack, but maybe you can help me (we have
same problem, it seems).

I tried with last Asterisk and Zaptel, kernel version 2.6.18-4 (Debian
Etch default kernel).

I also tried using bristuff 0.3y, 0.3s, etc. (is it 0.3 bristuff when
Asterisk is 1.2.X?). Always without any result :-(

I hope that tomorrow I will have time to reproduce the same scenario
with other computer. I will tell the results.
Sorry to take so long to answer. Thursday and Friday I was not in
office and I didn't have time... (well, I'm not in office now but I'm
interested :-D)

The thing is that this works, but

The performance of the box becomes really bad.

It seems that the problem, at least in my case is that the HPET timer from the
cpu does not get an IRQ for the RTC.

Does anyone else have a solution for this issue where the RTC does not get an
interrupt when HPET is turned on?

I am wondering if the periodic_IRQ is needed and a freq of 1000 based on what I read about zaptel.  Not sure.

What things are you using that requires zaptel timing
 (ztdummy)?

I've seen something similar happen before, and it was due to having drivers
for cards loaded that were not in the system.

Try removing all modules (including ztdummy), then loading ztdummy.

If I load ztdummy, my audio in BackGround (or Playback) cannot be
heard. If I rmmod ztdummy and restart Asterisk, Background
 works. What am I missing?

Yes, but if you didn't need MeetMe it would be silly to try to diagnose it.

I suspect ztdummy is loading correctly, but the system is not generating
interrupts for ztdummy sync to. Traditionally ztdummy used a USB
interface to get timing, but at some point I think it switched to using
the kernel RTC if available.

I don't use ztdummy -- I'm just recalling what I've seen on the mailing
lists and IRC over the years.

I had similar issues with 1.4.12 just one time (also topmost zaptel at
that date). We recompiled everything, and it suddenly worked. But we
had to revert to 1.4.10 because of some crashes - so no more data on
this.

Thank you. I compiled and installed from the 1.4 branch and this has

Can you try zaptel from 1.4 SVN, or even ztdummy from 1.4 SVN?

 http://svn.digium.com/svn/zaptel/branches/1.4/ztdummy.c

It should now use high-resolution timers for 2.6.22 users , so this may
work around your problem.

I thought this might be due to the fact that this is a Dual Core
Processor, so I tested using "maxcpus=1" as a parameter to the kernel. This did
not

I tested with an AGI script, and the problem is that audio isn't sent.

You need to apply the patch from:
http://bugs.digium.com/file_download.php?file_id=15160&type=bug
to your zaptel source and rebuild zaptel. You can read more here:
http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=10314

This should fix your issue and even give you high resolution timers.

Hi Saqib

Strangely it would seem that your kernel does not have a Real Time Clock
(RTC) compiled in. ztdummy can function fine without it, but
automatically assumes all 2.6.* kernel's to have it.

Therefore you can either recompile your kernel adding RTC support, or
modify ztdummy source.

Try commenting out the instances of "#define USE_RTC" (add "//" before
it) in zaptel.c. Then:
make clean
make
make install

Let me know how you get on.

Kind Regards,
Dave Walker

Does dmesg tell you anything useful? Sometimes modules will output errors

Not using safe_asterisk is a good idea.

As you don't need ztcfg for ztdummy, the only line you need from the
above four lines is:

  modprobe ztdummy

Or use the zaptel init script. If it finds no zaptel timing source it
modprobes ztdummy.

With the latest zaptel init script, you can simply use it (once the
modules unloading fixes are in place). But then aghain, there is no harm
whatsoever from not unloading ztdummy at system shutdown.

> Yes it works indeed thanks. It turns out that (for me) the "modprobe

That's because of the bogus setting in /etc/modprobe.conf that runs
ztcfg needlessly on the time of the load of ztdummy, and because uev is
slightly slow in creating the zaptel devices (the init.d script only
runs ztcfg after wait_fot_zapctl).

You can avoid all of that sleep (or at least most of it) easily.

I understand. What I tried to say is that if a wav file can be played
at the correct speed, why would a conference application need a special
driver to achieve the same? I assume it is needed as part of the
hardware driver and that this application happens to use the timing
reference part of it.

Sorry, my typo here:

On redhats:

  sed -i '/ztdummy/d' /etc/modprobe.conf

On Debians and probably most others:

  sed -i '/ztdummy/d' /etc/modprobe.d/zaptel

Basically: delete the line that runs 'ztcfg' automatically after the
modprobe of ztdummy. While for "real" hardware modules there is some
point in rnning this (and I still wouldn't recommend it), for zaptel,
ztdynamic, ztdummy and xpp_usb this is totally pointless and has indeed
been removed in the SVN versions.

Why would one application need a special driver? What so

Yes it works indeed thanks. It turns out that (for me) the "modprobe
ztdummy" alone works as well. I do get an error message as shown before,
but both ztummy and zaptel get loaded and Meetme() works. The 15 seconds
delay would add to the boot time
I also tried the suggestion of Eric Wieling. Appearantly make config is
what I had not done. This creates the needed module load scripts. The
module remove scripts do not work properly, but who cares if the machine
is going down anyway?

rmmod ztdummy > /dev/null 2> /dev/null
rmmod zaptel > /dev/null 2> /dev/null

Things will differ depending on your distribution, but that should be
enough to get you going in the right direction.

Try adding this to the [options] section of
/etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf:
internal_timing = yes

The restart asterisk. Let us know if it helps.

That solves the problem. Thanks!

2007-03-28 Thread Andrew Joakimsen

No, what happens is the SIP client has silence suppression enabled.
MOH works by symmetrical RTP. One frame of voice is received one frame
of MOH is sent. So if the client supresses silence frames there is no
MOH played during that time.

ALso if you see:

started music on hold
stopped music on hold right after

Chances are its your configuration that is the issue.

I was going somewhere with that, but never mind. Good luck.

Maybe the idiot is the guy who posted no additional details of his
configuration, in particular, whether the CLI was showing music on
hold starting, and then stopping, or whether the music on hold process
was continuing but no sound.

If it was a timing issue, by rubbing your hand across the mouthpiece,
I would guess it is generating interupts for the timer to work and
music on hold works, until you stop rubbing it and it fades it out.
Hitting or tapping the mouthpiece produces the same outcome.

Or, it that doesn't produce anything, it could be a permissions
problem. It could be something not configured correctly in the config
file. It could be that you are using mp3s instead of native format,
as Andrew had asked about.

But, since I'm an idiot, what do I know?

If the call was a SIP call then I would say that the device is using
VAD/CND (silence detection). This is the classic cause of MoH only
working when there is audio going in the other direction. Maybe there
is SIP somewhere in the call path.

I have the similar problem on 1.4.1. I don't remember having it in
1.4.0, I could be wrong. I have a SIP provider, when calls come in,
it play MOH while waiting for to be picked up. ztdummy is loaded.

Another interesting thing I notice,

exten => s,1,Zapateller(answer|nocallerid)
exten => s,n,Background(PleaseWait)
exten => s,n,Dial(100,30,r)

Please note, if I use "r" (ring) instead of "m" in the Dial option, I
have choppy ring too. If I rub my finger on the mouth piece, the
ring/MOH is fine.

Any solution to this problem? I'm using asterisk 1.4.1 with zaptel 1.4.0.

Thanks.

Not that it will help me, because I'm pretty much clueless from
here... How are you calling music on hold? Is this just by putting
someone on hold, or do you have an extension defined with music on
hold? Someone else may be able to pick up on something by knowing
that.

In the forums, there's a mention of music on hold having problems when
used with the dial command (instead of ringing, use music on hold). I
know there is an issue using that in connection with chan_sccp and
Cisco phones. I've run out of ideas. Hopefully someone in the
morning that's had this issue will see this.

It kinda rules out any bad files or conversion problems if you've used
the files that came with asterisk.

I hate being stumped, but I'm stumped.

That rules out the timing.

I see this note in the config file:

; If you are not using "autoload" in modules.conf, then you
; must ensure that the format modules for any formats you wish
; to use are loaded _before_ res_musiconhold. If you do not do
; this, res_musiconhold will skip the files it is not able to
; understand when it loads.

Does that apply? Also, I'm not sure if this still applies, but at one
time, you had to issue a restart command if you added any music files
for the Asterisk to see them. A reload command wouldn't do it. Have
you tried restart (not of the system, just Asterisk from cli).

Another thing you may or not be able to check... what if you just put
the files in the default directory and in the default context? Do
they work then? This would eliminate some of the musiconhold config
options causing problems. I guess along those lines do the default
music on hold files work?
