Re: Soundrts router/firewall help So my ISP replied saying I must try turning protected access off on my account. It is a feature from MWeb that helps with making your connection more secure.I tested SoundRTS last night after turning it off but it still didn't work. I then created a DMZ with the IP my wife's pc was using and changed the IP I used for the port forwarding, also removed the static IP.When I entered on multiplayer and then on enter IP it still didn't work. I then tried multiplayer, choose a server from the list and entered on my wife's game name and it finally worked!I used my Iphone as modem so that we would have 2 different connections in the house, because when we use the same network there is no problem of course, but now with 2 different network connections I could finally join her created server.I am not sure whether the protected access I turned off, or the DMZ solved the problem but at least there is progress. I will test it again over the next week or two when I find time to figure out what the solution was as I would like to know. Just to make 100% sure of everything I will test it with a friend who is at a different location as well but I think I should get somewhere now at least.Thank you for all the help and explaining it to me, I now know a bit more and wouldn't have made it this far without your help. Re: how can i download the Grizzly Gulch Western Extravaganza? The patch should be an executable file that you run. You just follow the prompts as you would a standard setup file. It replaces certain files in the original installation that make it possible for Grizzly Gulch to run on modern versions of Windows. Re: looking for ideas to help me with my independence
Re: looking for ideas to help me with my independence I'm too lazy to read all the other 30 posts, so I'm just going to jump in.#1, you're clearly pretty good at using the computer, and your english isn't bad, which are both great qualities.#2, you could try folding your bank notes in certain ways. For example, when Canada had paper money, I'd fold my 5s widthwise, my 10s lengthwise, and my 20s twice lengthwise. This did mean I needed to first ask somebody which bill was which, but once I did that, I was good. Now that Canada has plastic bank notes, the braille stays on them very well, so I just use the braille. #3 for credit card numbers, you could write it in braille. this has the advantage of being incomprehenseble to most people, and if you lose it, the braille will probably fade quickly, depending on where you lose it. Personally, I just took some time to memorise mine. Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil
Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil Yeah I know. I really don't like wandering off the straight and narrow. I guess if you purchase audiobooks then you appreciate that, especially when you have devices (iPhone, Stream) and software (iTunes) that support Audible so perfectly and frictionlessly. Of course the cunning here is in just that deception; really, it's only working because those combinations have been bought by Audible. Guess it's time to go back to ripping back into flac, or if I get it working, lossless m4b conversions with Inaudible (which I also don't have). Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil
Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil This is why I don't download from Audible; I'll occasionally buy something from them because I actually do care about supporting the author, but being as my preferred portable device for playing books on is my Sansa Clip Zip with Rockbox on it, which, drum roll, cannot play DRM-protected content, I use a network that's made exclusively for uploading audiobooks as MP3s. I don't really like doing it as the books I buy are usually ones I feel are worth my money and it means waiting for someone else to convert the book (don't have Inaudible) but it works. We're just trawling for info at this point. And it doesn't look as if it's a particularly new problem, although it's usually Kindle people discover to be off-limits. Amazon has made statements in the past that they don't restrict purchases, and yet my brother has no access at all.But obviously, the death of DRM, worldwide, is the real solution. Re: Aardwolf Soundpack? hi,well i have to admit that my fun in playing aardwolf has risen since i have made various sounds available to indicate stuff, like leveling, when your hunger is satisfied, your thirst is full, when you runto various locations etc. There are around 20 to 25 sounds used atm and while it isn't as good or complex as the mush-z one, it does help a lot to find out what happens.A little sidenote: i made this one for maaike and myself, since we are both barbarian, and there are a few sounds involved for barbarian skills as well, but as i remember right, most sounds are for general things. The only downside i have, is that the script should be loaded each time you start a aardwolf session.I am willing to upload it, but please keep in mind, taht there may occur errors, and they probably will stay into it since i am not a star or very experienced in making triggers for vipmud, and also, making soundpacks isn't something i do a lot, since my interes t lies more with coding audiogames and managing vandettacrime and currently rebuilding a stock tbamud codebase.Note! i said rebuilding, not recoding, since i find the old circlemud mechanics pretty awsome. and also i should learn to code new stuff in as well hehe.that was a bit off-topic, but i mansioned it so i thought let me make that little fluffy note.Hope to hear from you soon.greetz mike URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=250413#p250413 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil Thanks guys. You can be sure I'm looking, but it seems that Inaudible is now being chased by Audible (surprise!) because it decrypts the material losslessly. It is now on a private tracker somewhere. Anyone know where and how? I can save myself, even if it's too late for my brother (the only approved device is his smartphone app, of course). Amazon got some consumer watchdog attention for closing accounts, but this aspect of it--the loss of Audible and Kindle purchases--seems to be unexplored. And Audible, especially, has been resistant to breakage. Perhaps it's not too late for us to kick up a fuss ... The normal movement and to keep the overview of the dungeon is a little bit tricky. Fighting can be a little bit tricky too when you are low on health.Oh hey, maybe it is a bug. Re: MAINSTREAM GAMES - list of accessible video games - update 27/01/14 So, ZHEROS is out on steam. I tested the game and it's really fun. It's basically side scrolling beat em up like Streets of rage, final fight etc and I must say it's really playable. You can hear everything in stereo, there are footsteps. One problem for me are the menus as you can gain your stats after every stage. I completed two stages actually and it's like other games like this. Sometimes you need to go a bit up or down to go right but mostly it's stright forward.I like the setting as it's futuristic robotic beat em up. I can recommend this but I didn't completed this one yet.Any help with menus will be appreciated. Re: What Are Your Favorite Lighters They might, I don't know if you have to light pipes so carefully as you do with cigars, if you light a cigar unevenly, it could go out, or just burn weird. That's why they make those cigar cutters, which are these little devices with two finger holes opposite each other, if you have the thing separated, there is a hole in the middle, but as you bring it together, a metal edged piece slides in, that's how it cuts the end off, its just like a blade, similar to that of a utility knife, but not cut at a 45 degree angle. The idea is you chop off the end, its important to get a clean cut, then you take care to light it evenly then its a good smoke. You can light a cigar with a bic lighter, but its better with something butane, or with dual flames like that torch lighter that I had. FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil
FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil Amazon have closed my brother's account because he was returning too many articles to them. He'd apparently crossed some sacred threshold or other--presumably one calculated to be the least profitable to Amazon--with the result that he can no longer log in to his account. And you'll never guess what that means for his very handsome collection of Audible books.Go on, take a guess. You'll probably get it first time ...The DRM on Audible content requires that any device obtain a key from Amazon, after logging in to an account. Any device already possessing that key can of course continue to download and play any content, but without logging in, a new device cannot obtain the key. Amazon have made it very clear to my brother that they have no intention of allowing him further access to his account. So Amazon has put an effective end-of-life date on all of my brother's Audible "Purchases"; as soon as he resets the devices, sells an d replaces them, etc, his Audible collection will be no more.I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that DRM is thoroughly and fundamentally evil. It's wicked. It's corrupt. It's iniquitous. And it's not about piracy at all, it's about control. You don't own the things you "buy" if the content is locked with a key you don't have and can't get. The true owner is simply parting you from your money with the vague promise of letting you use the key, which they endeavour to keep you from discovering, lest you use it in ways not approved by the owner--for instance by unlocking your digital content permanently and thus freeing yourself from the owner's grip--but which they will make available to you while using software that they trust to protect their, and not your, interests. And of course, the owner always has the option of not letting you use your key at all, by telling the server not to give it to th e software. While your decryption key is in their hands, anything might happen to your content, at any time, even if the owner promises to the contrary. This racket is only possible because we give these content distributors the money to enable it--to write the software that keeps the keys safe from discovery while in your hands, to write laws that prohibit people from breaking the software to access the content without use of that software, and to criminalise perfectly legitimate uses of content that are inconvenient for the bottom line, but that are recognised by copyright and common sense as being reasonable and fair. I sincerely hope you take something from this incident, as I surely do, with something like this so close to home happening, and I hope you'll be willing to think carefully about whose business practices you'll be willing to support if you have the choice. I understand that we don't all have the choice to exercise all the time, and that it' s easy to make up excuses and pray that it never happens to us. I'd say that this was particularly true for blind people and those with other reading challenges, because the selection of material is already very limited. Audible makes a fantastic, sometimes exclusive collection of audiobooks available. But they, and any other DRM pedaler, simply cannot be trusted. I have made it a habit never to value any protected content too highly, and I'm gratified to see the truth in it, sad as I am for my brother's plight. For your own sake, wherever possible, you should make arrangements to avoid DRM. Try not to purchase anything you wouldn't keep from a DRM merchant. You never know, it could be you this happens to, and you might be the next person to own a handsome collection of strongly encrypted, utterly useless files that you have no hope of playing, and who will be out of pocket for the amount you "Bought" them for. I am trying to make items appear in a certain spot in my test campaign using a chat event, here is my code. +-1+chat event=comeadd items 10 1 100,115,100,115 *this works for a few times but after a while only item appears, does anyone know why? Also item respawn does not seem to be working. Thanks for the help. Re: Classic home computers and the blind. Your experiences by the way, I know for certain that the bns could sing, because jeff redousky got it to sing twinkle twinkle little star, and i almost included that version on the tts preschool album, but that was when I was following a "1 recording per song" rule, that I quickly lifted as soon as cae jones did his eloquence songs. speaking of which, could anyone get the bns to sing there are 7 days? I'm still awaiting the eureka a4 backing track. Re: Classic home computers and the blind. Your experiences
Re: Classic home computers and the blind. Your experiences Technically, the RC8650 chip that the DoubleTalk and Millennium note takers used had more configuration options - there was pitch, volume and frequency like with the Votrax SC02/artek SSI263 chip of the older blazie note takers, but it also had more voices, a basic reverb, a built-in speech processor and dictionary as well as a tone generator. The Votrax chip could only accept a command to play one of its phonemes at a specific pitch and amplitude (volume) and not much else. This is why when the millennium note takers were released the basic programs that generate tones would crash as basic was most likely trying to use some very low level assembly to talk to the Votrax to make it beep. Anyway I think I have most of the basic and otherwise Blazie programs and we're working with guilevi on the site, which will probably be where it will end up. If you want recordings of anything, let me know, I can probably make something that sounds quite good. Anyone with a device can hook into the Alexa service and serve it up. Not many people have jumped on board yet. But I did test out someone's beta for Android phones called "Roger". He said i t was already released for iOS. So you might see if that is a reasonable gateway to Alexa services. In the meantime I'll check out the developer forum here. If there are some easy STT/TTS kits of reasonable quality, I'll see if it is worth putting together an alternative front end. I've kept a nice separation layer in the code, so it wouldn't be that hard. Thanks for the encouragement. And, I thought that green would have been the lowest note? I have had a varying amount of success with my notes. Too bad my brother cant really explain to me how it works. I might ask him tomorrow. A very strange problem with Dropbox. Hello all, So Dropbox is being very strange, at least for me. On Saturday morning, all files were cleared from the S Quad Racing testing folder. I looked in the recent events and found out who it was, talked to them about it, and moved on. However, later on I tried to start dropbox on my computer. I can press enter on the shortcut all I want, but it won't start, here's how I know:1. System Tray. I actually thought I was wrong about this at first because of Windows Adware putting it's Get Windows 10 icon there, but I disabled that and Dropbox still won't show up.2. Context menu in the public folder. No View on Dropbox.com, and no Copy Public link. Also for the other folders I have, no Shared folder options, and no View on Dropbox.com. Do any of you know what could be causing the problem? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,Steve. Re: I need fantasy book recommendations I recommend Dennis L McKiernan's Mithgar series. There are about a dozen books in the series, each book is a stand alone story so there's no need to read them in any particular order. They are similar to Tolkien, especially in character types, also, "The Iron Tower" trilogy has many parallels to "Lord of the Rings". Re: help finding a suitable replacement for an old tape deck?
Re: help finding a suitable replacement for an old tape deck? Thanks Jack for your response.I've heard about the APH decks. I've not seen one though.I have old-fashoned parents who told me they don't want me on Ebay. There are so many old things I'd want to consider getting, things like electronics and synths, and well now a tape deck, which I believe people are pretty honest about selling in the condition they say it's in, I don't quite understand why they get on my case for wanting to use it. It's not like I'm careless when doing these things, I'd like to think I have a good head that can weigh these things and decide when something's just not worth it or not feasible. Lol. A lot of friends of mine have bought 20-year-old gear with it and can use it perfectly. Not that that necessarily has anything to do with this topic, just letting my mind wander. I'll probably have to use Ebay or a similar resource to get a suitable deck these days.
