Hi,@karlitos,That's a very strange bug, i never have encountered it before. When you try to restart the game and try to create your character again, does it work then? Some things in the character creation did change, like pressing enter after some messages. And i noticed when using NVDA for example, that some messages don't get spoken. What i want to ask, did you hear the message if you are feeling comfortable with your given age or did you hear something else? Sorry, for these silly questions, but i want to nail down the problem for my understanding so i can give more solid help.@giovani,I quickly wrote a small patch, wich you can find in the 1st post. I can remember this problem occuring every so often, but after restarting the game, and starting a new game did solve the issue, but after installing this patch, and after a new game, should fix the issue in future i hope.Appologies for this hasty and probably inaccurate message, but am in a hurry. From the DB page. Self destruct was the name of an adventure game originally produced by Xul studios. In the game, you are trapped in a grid of 100 rooms somewhere in the sewers and need to escape by providing the teleporter with 1200 gold coins which you will find as you search the various rooms.Your escape will not be made easy though, sinse there is a bomb in the sewers counting down whenever you move, and several small, nasty, mutated creatures known as urchins, which come in larger, smellier and even more lethal varients on higher difficulty levels.You can find a number of items to help you however, such as move pills, urchin mines, health pills, and of course money to spend in the shop, You might also find a way of deactivating the bomb or playing several bonus games in the infamous room 0The game is self-voicing using Ms sapi, and also features a large amount of music and sound effects.though originally released as a commercial game, Xul studios decided to release the game as abandonware, and it is now being hosted by Damien Pendleton. As it was originally a commercial game, you'll stil need to register it in order to unlock all game functions and levels. you can do this with the key generator file which will give you a registration code you can copy into the appropriate box. though a short cut for the key generator will appear in the program group, this will not find the file, Keygen.exe however, which by default will install into the xl studios directory, not the self-destruct one. Just look for the keygen.exe file in the same directory as the main self-destruct folder and you should be able to find itBeware the Urchins!The game can be found at the audiogames archive.

Yeah I'm struggling right now to think of ways this could be made playable if even somewhat. That being said, there are far greater minds than I and I'm not at all saying this can't be done. Different game completely, but I'm still amazed that I've been able to play Deadspace. Lots and lots of challenges with it, but seriously it's an amazing feeling when the full realisation of what I'm actually doing hits me. I honestly believe that there will come a time when this is not so much a discussion of implementing accessibility, but how it can be improved. I see a future in which we can play games with our sighted peers. Will it be on the same level? That's hard to tell. Personally I'm not sure, just because of the visual acuity's involved. Absolutely agree with post 18 here.

But media in general, at least books etc are escapism, fantasy if you will, it's supposed to pull you out of every day life if you pick up a romance novel. Same for comics and movies based on comics though. Daredevil was written a certain way for a specific reason howwever.As for games, again, escapism. Nobody who pays $60 for a AAA game would want to play a realistic portrayal of a blind character. Realistic realism does not sell copies, aceptable breaks from reality happen in games to make them fun to play really...Even the hardcore simulators do not simulate everything because who would actually want to, say, drive or 20 hours to get somewhere versus 2 in a scaled down map, or who would want to.say..in GTA deal with running out of gas in the middle of a mission, or in FSX not be able to instantly reset a flight or teleport to any place on the planet or instantly switch aircraft. Realistic realism is, I'm afraid, overrated. Yes there's things like ARMA that do it to a degree, but even those hav breaks from reality. Same with any genre, there's breaks from reality because realistic does not always equal fun. End of the day publishers have targets for games to hit so devs have to make a game that sells as many copies as possibble. If that means not being realistic to get extra sales, they'll do it. Been there, done that, having to cut features that weren't fun is a part of big game development really

Defender, an example I could give is if you set up a server or website that handed out goods once people purchased them with Paypal.  Paypal deals with the payments, but then it has a very specific way it communicates with your server to notify you of the purchase and its details.  I'm referring to the paypal IPN (Instant payment notification), if you've had any experience with that.  In this pretend situation, you have your own software written that listens for those notifications, and knows how to interpret them once they arrive.  Everything is golden.  Now imagine they, for whatever reasons they have, change how the data arrives in the IPN.  Until you adjust your own code, your server will not know how to interpret the data.That's not the greatest example, but it's one many people can probably relate to.  For the gamer account security, part of the process is bounced to a yahoo server and the other part goes to my own.  It's meant to avoid something somehow screwing with my home server and bypassing the security.  It's a 2 part system.What happened is that the response from the server yahoo runs changed its format a bit.  It's the first time they've done this sort of change in the 20'ish years I've used them for hosting, so I don't think it's something I need to fear happening often.When I was talking about that free month idea, and how it would take a while to get the Swamp client ready, I also thought it could take me a few weeks to have it ready.  I basically canceled everything and worked non-stop on the client today.  To my surprise, I was able to get it up and running way sooner than I expected!  Now I could be celebrating too soon, and there may be some part I forgot to code or some little bugs hiding in there, but so far it seems players are on the server battling zombies.The "Swamp 2" engine hasn't been canceled.  What was canceled was the idea of using it to make an actual sequel to Swamp.  It seems like a game with a different theme (not so limited to zombies), would be a better choice for the engine.

We will also be adding other things that we originally thought impossible to do. @quanin, Oh, I know. But schools could aford it in the educational environment. Also, no, you wouldn't need to blow away any OSes at all. If you use VIRL with Packet (yes, you can do that, there are detailed instructions available online) you can set up your own VIRL server with them with the web interface and all, and can SSH into it and then,through hat SSH connection, SSH into your router or switch.

All of those things you mentioned are possible with the 2nd generation stream, except for chromecast audio support. Actually, I take that back, chromecast speakers may run linux. As for whether the 2nd gen stream is abandoned, it most certainly isn't, as HUmanware has made it clear that they are not replacing the stream2 with the Trek. And as for the two different codebases? I do believe they are still under the same umbrella, so updating them shouldn't be too difficult.

That's interesting that the Trek runs Android. I thought it would be easier to use the existing Linux code from the second generation Stream and add the GPS and Bluetooth functionality. I wonder what version of Android they're using? If they really are using twodifferent code bases, it's going to be more difficult to keep the two products in sync when it comes to the Victor Reader features. I hope the second generation Stream isn't abandoned. I still want to see many wireless features added such as the ability to stream to AirPlay and Chromecast devices, the ability to send files on the device using wi-fi, and the ability to browse machines on the local network for content using something like SMB or FTP.

Device is recognized as a fastboot device when both volume keys and the power button are held down. Dead-on android device. Linux and Android have somewhat similar file structure, since android is based off linux anyway. But it is indeed running android.

No, I doubt the Trek does. From my experience at looking at its files, it still seems to be running Linux, though the file system is much more organized than the Stream and even comes with a Python 2.7 installation. This is coming from looking at the contents of upgrade files, though, so may be unreliable.

Wait so I'm confused, first, your server relies on something specific to a company run by Yahoo! which is a company that's barely holding on by the skin of it's teeth as it is... You probably coded that part before the giant data breach announcements though, but is it really specific to Yahoo? or just something that works on a certain type of infrastructure that Yahoo! and presumably some other companies have as well. If so would it be prohibitively expensive to switch to another service to avoid future issues?And now your saying your going to possibly give a free month to players and that fixing it might take a while, but you've pretty much already fixed it and it only took like a day (props for that by the way good work).So like what is actually going to take a while then? when you say it'll take time I figured you meant like two weeks, especially after the (Swamp is technically being updated) comment.I think I just misunderstood mostly, LOL.If it is going to take a couple weeks or something though than yeah, the hole sending out emails for 11 hours thing I think would be very much worth the time, but at this point I think it's not so.Also, I didn't know that the "Swamp2" engine was already abandoned, I thought you were just busy helping your neighbors after winter and such. So it went back to what I was talking about a few days ago, how people were sending me messages begging for the sourcecode. At this point does that even matter? I was able to use a lot of the admin btb commands I wrote, and I was also able to clear the entire server because I new the command, was not documented ever. I don't think they know some of these commands even exist, beause they never coded this themselves.

I've heard that the Trek runs on Android where the Stream didn't. With that in mind the Trek could be all new hardware rather than just a Stream with GPS added to it, and a new design provides an opportunity for design flaws to creep in. Just a theory to explain how a design that worked became a design that has issues, and trying to decide whether to stick it out or to sell the Trek, and go back to using a Stream. Especially since I don't need the GPS anywhere near as much as I thought I did.

No luck.I actually agree with Ivan in that the few times I played it reminded me very much of BTB. The planes and shit people were talking about, come on, those are just slightly advanced doors.I think it would be helpful if someone could host a BTB server so that those who had never played it could realise just how much of a clone it really is.

Sure, assign it as a default shape such as a small cube or cylinder and programatically generate the necessary code for it. The more common scripting language for 3D printers is [G-Code], it might take a bit to figure out the code and handle edge cases like function compability across different printers and such, but it shouldn't be too difficult to put something together, hopefully.Interestingly there's already an openscad script [here] for converting text into braille STL models for printing, although it would still need to be converted via a slicer. I've already been mulling over putting together a program for streamlining the batch conversion of text/images into braille stl models for printing, with an accessible slicer or something like it down the line.Also for the curious, here's an example of what generated g-code script looks like for a small 2mm cube:M140 S60.00

At some point there will be tri-form arches to the premium area in each town and city in the starting world. I'm still waiting for details from Amazon about when I can release the new stuff and if it requires certification. There is, indeed, a Mezoamerican region. It is called Yucatan, and it's an almost-island, only accessible by a narrow land bridge and by ferry. Head for 4 degrees 20 minutes South latitude and 7 degrees 16 minutes East longitude when you are in Enuma Elish. To address your balance concerns, I've tweaked the system where monsters are assigned challenge ratings. Before it assigned, say, challenge rating 5 if an average group of those monsters would defeat a part of level 5 about 50% of the time. Upon reflection, prompted by your comments, I've moved that to somewhere around 30-40%, which seems more reasonable. When the next release comes out, let me know if you think it's made a difference.And we just fought some Bugbears in the face-to-face D game I play and I thought the DM had his finger on the scales. But when I looked them up I found they really did do 2d8 damage. So I agree, they hurt!I've just finished an internal re-vamp of the combat system. If I've done things right, there will be no obvious change. Rather the effort was to introduce the capability for there to be "monsters" on the player's side. I did a test run and created the sword "Stormbringer" which has a 20% chance of summoning a minor demon to fight for its wielder on every hit. This should allow for some fun things!

I doubt it being a hardware problem as both units have the mono speaker, and the stream2's audio balance was fine. It's just the Trek's audio processing that prevents it from balancing properly.

Well the server is slowly getting players, and I want to pop in and give another update on the situation.  Some players have experienced a "runtime error 52" when starting up the new patch, and the cause (usually) is that their antivirus program isolates the executable away from the other required files since it was just recently downloaded.  It's called quarantine, or testing mode, or whatever name your particular anti virus uses.  After running the game a few times, it considered the game "trusted" and it let it access its required files like normal.  So far everyone who told me about this "runtime 52" error had it fix itself after trying to run it a few times.The next possible bug is something that will only affect players who have multiple accounts.  Some of the code I was playing around with many months ago, was meant to speed up the process of logging in.  That code isn't finished so logging in is the same as it used to be, but that code does sometimes kick in when loading up your character list.  If the database is responding too slowly, the game pulls your character list from the last successful log-in.  If you have multiple accounts, that may very well be the character list for your Other account.  If this happens, it obviously won't let you log in as that character since it doesn't match the account you're currently using.  To fix this, you'll find a file called characters.txt in your Swamp folder and you can delete it.  That forces the game to wait as long as needed to get the character list from the online database.I was going to send out mass emails to everyone, letting them know about the client update, but I ran into a snag.  As it turns out, there is a limit to how many emails I can send using my server before I get flagged as spam.  The limit is quite low (10 at a time or 100 per hour), so unless I want to sit around sending small batches for 11 hours, that plan is over.  I'm hoping everyone who needs to know what's going on will find the information here, or will hear it from other players.

A guide on it would be helpful some time. It is just one of those times when I am thinking up some kind of encrypted communications that would be just useful enough to drive the NSA or the CIA and or ETC up the wall. I have heard of protonmail. Sounds interesting. It would be one thing to think about for sure. I will need to go and bring the site up from here, but the one advantage of doing PGP on my own computer is the fact that I can give out a public key. Now that is something that I am not too sure about sense I do not fully understand the math and or code behind it. I sort of get the idea, but most of the time, I would give the key for decryption via other means and it would be the same as the key I used for encrypting if I was not using the system that PGP uses. As I understand it though, PGP allows you to use one key for decrypting and another for encrypting. Yes I do want to play around with this kind of stuff, and I would like to really have stuff private on the net for a change, I most likely will be thankful. For those who think I am crazy here, look at what facebook did with the data you willingly gave them. Yes, I, for the most part, assumed that that info that I gave would be public, but still. That, of course means that I cannot use facebook messenger and or whats app if I wish to have a chat over the net privately. As for email, unless action from the sender and receiver is taking, that is pretty much in the clear too in case anyone cares. LOL. Most of the time, most everyone in the chain of communication probably do not care what messages you send to who. Of course, google wishes to show you ads like mores other free services on the net. That is common enough to be under stood that if you are not paying, then you are, sort of, the product. Just one of those things where I wonder how useful and how difficult it is to set something like this up seeing that most of the time I am not hiding anything because there really is not anything to hide.

I hope the fix comes out soon. At the time, it just does not seem like a good buy and the two problems brought up does not really make it look good while HumanWhare seems to have good products over all. Did they just get a one year license or something? As for the audio processor, my first guess would had been a hardware problem. I guess I would had assumed that it would needed to been sense back for working on. To me, the more glaring problem, if it is not just one or two people reporting it in the google home topic, is the reception of GPS. Could be wrong. Reacting to soon makes me come off as a bit on the crazy side. LOL. Anyway, thanks for the correction.

It's a software glitch, as the trek is using a different audio processor. @cw The problem is not that big, really. The fact of the matter is one of unfortunate timing, because the map license expired on them. That was Tomtom's doing. On top of that, they were on holiday weekend so they weren't around to fix it. The beta users have already gotten an update patch to fix the situation so we all should soon thereafter.

I think that is the point Dark was trying to make. Daredevil isn't a realistic depiction of a blind person. Yes, he's not incompetent and useless, but he's so super-enhanced by his other senses his blindness isn't really a character trait that matters anymore.He's very much a "I'm an awesome blind Man, look at what Blind me does in spite of being blind!" blind still is the key word to him, even if it is a negation. I love daredevil myself and although the modern show has him with a lot of real relations, real drug problems, and real compentence as a lawyer, in a lot of stuff he is "blind-superhero" and even if you ask someone, "who's daredevil," they'll tell you "isn't he that blind superhero?" Few people remember that Man-bat (a batman villain who later reformed" is deaf, or that Pied Piper (a reformed flash villain" is also deaf, Man-bat is a big werebat monster while pied piper, depending on who you ask is a guy with sound-based weaponry, a guy with sound-based powers, or one of the first openly-gay comic book characters. A lot of people know Pied piper is deaf, but they think of a lot of other things first.I think I'd want that for other blind characters. I identify personally as blind, but that's pretty far down the list because there are a lot of things I identify as before that.

I don't know too much about games with blind characters, but look at daredevil for example. He's blind, but he's not. He still jumps rooftop to rooftop and takes on thugs in hand to hand fights. At least in the netflix show he's not completely helpless.

a few points i'd like to bring up:@15 / 16, blind people can and do play fps games. I myself have played blackops online, and while I only got 5 kills, that's 5 more than anyone expected me to. The problem with these games (fortnite included) is the speed. In fortnite, people get killed really, really quickly. Its like boom boom boom 5 or 10 guys down. Blind people would get whipped really quickly. I still kinda wanna try it out though. in fortnite, players camp out, and the game moves quite fast anyway. If a player's up on a sniper tower, they have the advantage of being silent. The blind player would get sniped pretty quick before even knowing anybody was there, and most of the time, the sniper isn't even near you, but far across the map. That's why I stopped playing quake. I do think though that if quake was modded to work for blind people then if fortnite is moddable the same thing might be possible and even better than quake as quake was years ago.

I know what you're talking about. What's worst in some of those portrayals is the "positive" portrayals of the blind that really aren't. Though I was meaning to talk about game characters, since I know you're doing your doctorate on defining disability and such, look into Wilkie Collins' "Poor Miss Finch" It's 19th century and it's a love story but the positive portrayal of the blind Wilkie Colins himself talked about doing in his works isn't really there, though in truth she isn't much more vapid than most 19th century romance heroines. He has another with a deaf character in somewhat a similar plot that is earlier but I can't remember the title.All I can say about Uller, the githzerai monk above, in his defense, is he only exists in D lore for about 5 pages as he is just an incidental NPC in one small part of one small adventure and the way the game is set up, the players show up there briefly once and will never go there again. In a way, although his blindness is mentioned, it doesn't really mix in with how his subordinates view him or how he acts. Perhaps it was either a terrible grasp at a straw of diversity or just to show off what could be done by sticking certain abilities together and how to make a blind creature actually more dangerous (if you were blind in that edition of D you also were immune to gaze attacks like the stare of a medusa or the mesmerizing gaze of a vampire.)I've also found sometimes the blindness in games is shoehorned in. In some of the premises of even some of the games here, the reason of the blindness is sort of contrived. Or in some other backgrounds, I've seen situations specifically set up to put the blind character in a situation where they are advantaged. In the 1980s Thundercats series, there was a character added at one point called Lynx-O who was blind. There was a part of the planet shut off by a cave system filled with thick fog that also defied radar and other lazer and light devices. Lynx-o was the only one who could fly the jet through there with the aid of sonic devices and this horrible contrived computer device called the "Brailleboard. At one point villains capture him and try to get the blueprints for the device, only to get a complete blank in their visualization-mindreading device because Lynx-o doesn't think about it visually.I'll have to say the one thing I liked about that character, though he was actually very capable, was actually the time he counted on what seemed to be a contrived advantage for his blindness that for once the writers thought through and realized the plot-hole. There was a villain who could cast a light that had will-breaking properties and he could hypnotize people with his voice when he used it. He's taking out the thundercats one after another and Lynx-o is basically 'I can't see his light so I'll be fine" only basically YOU CAN STILL HEAR HIM, GENIUS.not sure if this counts as a game, but I'm running an rpg thing on Storium in a world called Hell's Harbor with some friends. One player has created a clairivoyant Noblewoman who is also blind. The setting is meant to be a gallows-humored swashbuckling supernatural and demonic adventure in Hell and the player actually plays her blindness as a weakness, which it largely would be for her character in most of the setting she's in, she's not skilled in fighting and normally she hangs around some familiar zones in the capital city rather than going out to exotic islands anf fighting monsters in Hell's oceans. Thing is, though blindness was the primary weakness card she started with, she doesn't throw it in your face all the time, but she doesn't let you quite forget it either. But you see her Belinda character more as an ambitious, power-grasping noble rather than as someone helpless, though she doesn't have super-blind senses or anything. She is clairivoyant but she has to go completely immobile and actually fall asleep to do that, something she almost never has time to do. She can't sword-fight by sound alone or leap from ropes just by hearing where the wind blows off the rigging or hear a heartbeat to know if someone is lying or anything like that. She's actually the worst fighter in the group narrative-wise, but that isn't the narrative role she was meant to fill. She more fills the role of "The smart one" in the group.That's on Storium by the way. The original use of the blind card in that setting is for the black iron monks, who paint a paste made of angel blood on their eyes, which blinds them but gives them divination abilities that they can use while in a trance. They also wear holeless cubic boxes as helmets once they enter the order of the black iron monks. but I like the way my friend took care of it too.

Hi all,After more then a year of silence, personal trouble, why i wasn't able to work on the game as frequent as i wished, i am proud to announce we have released beta 2 of the your_adventure audiogame!Lot and lot has changed when koma7.2 and i started on this project a few years ago. It all started as a joke from koma, and i started putting stuff together, we never would have imagined the game to be evolved to what it is now. It more and more gets the shape of a codebase on wich we can add stuff with more ease when the project grows. Also with great thanks to hatlor, who discovers bugs as soon as he starts playing the thing, so without koma, hatlor, and all players from aug.net, this never would become reality. But ah well, enough rambling from my side, lets get to the changes, and below the changes the link to our your_adventure page will be presented, from where the game can be downloaded.updates from rough beta 2 to beta 2 - rewrote the fishing system, credits to dark of the audiogames.net community. this one probably still need some work on it. - added a skill based system wich can be used in combat. - for the new skill based system, you can learn abilities at a trainer. - added the D button while in combat to hear a description of your enemy. - the game will check if a save file is present, all players have to start with a new game, sorry. - added a training point system, you'll get a tp when you get a combat level. - added the A button while in combat to select an ability wich you bought for a trainingpoint. - added two basic abilities, and one wich is a combination from the first two. - added a lot of new sounds and music. - fixed the musical errors wich were present when rough beta2 got released. - added a new area the forest. -expanded the beach area, i am curious if people make the link of the docks  - added several secret locations, one of them is bound by a season, but wich? - rewrote the code for the quest: kill 5 rats in the sewers for the bartender. - added 5 new quests. - one of these quests is the mobquest. - made the harvesting code seperate, so it can be used for other harvestables as well. - added the red berries and the blueberries as resources wich can be harvested at a second location where harvesting is now available. - the berries mentioned above are also visible in the inventory now. - added the woodsmans axe. - added woodcuttiny. - added the blue crab as enemy in the beach area. - added screenreader support. - rewrote the credits page. - added a configure speech method option in the main menu and the character information. - added keyisfull and coderunner to the credits. - expanded the world to 52 rooms. - removed the g and s keys for grinding, that was a bit pointless. - removed the experience, achievements and skill levels for grinding. - fixed some bugs. - it is now no longer possible to enter nothing or zero when a edit field is presented. - probably some updates we forgot  download links:windows version:http://mschipper.synology.me:63416/fbsharing/qL0C26IJMac-os version:https://www.dropbox.com/s/uq7oew59jcwog … p.zip?dl=0or via our website:http://www.nonvisiongames.comAs Always, when any bugs occur, please let us know via this topic, or by sending an email via our contact page.greetz mike

sounds cool, not going to go too off-topic but I'm actually on my own trying to bring certain aspects of care ethics and the categorical imparitive within Rule utilitarianism.Knowing what you do and what I've experienced talking to people, you probably have rated me a step down for being a utilitarian, because it has huge problems, but from my own view of what Ethics is for, it suits my own viewpoint best. I think bringing in certain aspects of the categorical imperative and care ethics as guidelines for forming rules and a definition of utility will reduce some of the pitfalls in rule utilitarianism as a whole, but good to see another philosopher here.

No, I'm not tired of you yet.In fact, I'm rather stimulated by your questions that took way way to long to come.I'd been hoping someone like you would come along sence I finished Remnant, and now you have.Maybe you could make the next epic stage...Anyway, your questions...Yes, I did place a transition on each and every square the player could fall in; took about an hour, but so worth it in the end.Related to that, I made the time it takes for the player to reach the bottom of the slide change by making 4 levels that play the same sceen, but read out different text at the end.I think they're called fall1 to fall4, or something like that.The music change is just another stage that activates when you reach a sirtain point, and that alarm you hear is timed.You aren't actually triggering it, it's just a sceen that activates when the stage starts.I placed that sound their for two reasons.The first; and hopefully most obvious, is that the player needed to know when time was almost up.The second, is that it's actually a reference to super Mario world, in wich the P blocks that change varyables in a level make that sound when they're about to run out.The alarm is actually for when the fire is about to reach the position that level starts on, by the way.Oh, and, you were almost to the path of truth!Keep trying!And, one more thing...If; somehow; you actually reach the beginning of chapter 3 from chapter 1 or two; meaning you don't actually start on chapter 3, and you manage to reach the path of truth, something good will defanatly happen!Later!

#My problem bookrage is so often in media (games included). Blind characters are either super awesome ninja assassins of doom! or utterly useless helpless little tiny Tim knockoffs, indeed frequently both. Look at Dyna from the Langoleers.Whichever guise they fall into, the blindness is always the central part of their character. They aren't just characters who happen to be blind among many other traits they are always blind! characters! with a capital blind. They rarely if ever have relationships, they always fumble around and either work so hard to be awesome and enspiring "despite!" their blindness they might as well not be blind at all, or spend so much time being blind and useless you honestly wonder what the hell else they do. This is why Jordi laforge was the least developed character in startrek Tng, because he spent so much time being a blind engineer, that he was never anything else. going along with this dichotome, it is also interesting to note  blind characters, even sighted characters who become blind are either not affected at all by their blindness due to some superpower, piece of technology or shear awesomeness to the point that their blindness doesn't matter at all (look at Kenshi as a great example), or they are so blind! that you literally wonder how they dress themselves. Its odd, there is a lot these days about "Positive representations of disability in media" people with physical disabilities (in wheel chairs), have been through the phase of being helpless, been through the phase of being enspiring! and now can be pretty much normal characters who just happen to use a wheel chair. The same is rapidly becoming true of autism, and deafness indeed a paper I read recently on "representing the disabled identity in literature!" listed several examples, of "positive protrayals oof disabled protagonists" all of them either autism or deafness. Blindness, along with pretty much any other disability that alters someone's appearence on a basic physical level, for example making them slightly deformed or have an odd limp or a facial diplegia never get a look in. When you raise this point to people, people will point to the likes of Kenshi and dare devil and say "look! there are awesome blind characters" and yet if you ask them to tell you about a blind character who has relationships, or makes friends  does other character stuff they struggle badly. Whats worse, is this keeps happening. One of the many! things that appauled me in starwars rogue one was the blind jedi guy who spent the entire film mumbling koung fuu, backflips his way across a beach through laser fire, then fumbles his way along a console to find a bomb disarm switch! both awesome, and incompetent and blind! with a capital blind. Even good writers do this, I waas shocked that in the fools assassin, trilogy, robin Hobb keeps discussing how the fool has become blind and yet "gropes blindly for things" or Can't use his knife and fork" or "faces the wrong way when speaking to someone", and yet this is supposedly someone who has crossed half a continent with assassins trying to kill him, survived for six years on the run, and whats more is supposed to be amazingly good at blending into different environments, - yet make him Blind! and he can't stop being blind. I will say there are a few actual blind characters in literature I've noticed. Justin cronin's passage trilogy has a couple, one an arsy guy in charge, one a liscivious old man which is awesome! since when is the last time a blind character got to be either (just becaused people should be characters doesn't mean they should be nice ones), he also had a really awesome deaf character as well. the other that occurs to me immediately is Toth in Avatar the last airbender. Like the monk you mentioned above, she is able to pick up the environment around her  picking up tremmers in the earth since she is an earth bender. However this doesn't make her automatically awesome. She can fight extremely well and wins many earth bending championships, but the second Ang hits her with an air bending attack she's lost since she can't pick up where its coming from. Similarly she is cocky, smart, and self reliant to the point of aragance,  and yet her family just see her as a tiny blind helpless twelve year old girl. She even develops a crush on Socka, the main boy of the series, and though she loses out (socka being 17  very firmly with someone else at the time), its nice to see that people remember that blind people, - m, have a libido! So it has been done, I just damn well wish it was done more, and that blind characters could get away from being either super aweosme not really blind or completely useless, and indeed do something more in most games and books and films than sit around and be blind!

I'm (hopefully), just finishing a phd in philosophy following a masters and a degree, albeit I want to do something else when finished. Agreed on reading people you disagree with, that was why I myself have read so much nietzsche, though I only dipped in and out of Cant  that was when I was taking my degree and had a lot of essays on ethics to write . Maybe I will go back to it at some point, but right now I'm sort of wanting to do something else with my life once I've got the PHd out of the way and hopefully they don't screw up my marking again like they did last time around. Oh and the PHd involves writing a new definition of disability if you were wondering.

I looked in a cheetsheet document, or something, and I saw that the alarm goes off once the fire gets to a surtan point in the Level. Just qurious how you did it. 3: How did you set it so that the time it takes Your character to slide Down to the path of lies increases as you get farther in the path of truth?I think that's it, for now, at least. I may be posting here again very soon, because I've either 1, forgotten something, or 2, managed to Complete another Level, and got stuck on the next. Hahaha

All Linux distributions should be accessible as you really will use SSH. About wich distro you may need to use, it depends. While arch is nice and up to date, I don't know anyone who use it in a production server. If you are talking abou testing, you can take CentOS, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo or even Arch. If you want to use the distro in a production environment where you wouldn't want updates breaking things and stuff, then, I'd go with Debian or CentOS. Justt because they have much more community support in servers and their stability is guaranteed.

Let me get this streight jack, they suggested for you to set the date back to 2017 to solve your map problem? I hate to tell them this, but it's their problem that the map is out of date, not your's. For the price charged, they should be willing to repair for free and or vary reasonable prices. I would think free sense the device has not been for a year yet and I would think that they would want to learn what felled so that the problem can be corrected in the future. Anyway, it does not really sound like a good deal yet.

Hi all,After more then a year of silence, personal trouble, why i wasn't able to work on the game as frequent as i wished, i am proud to announce we have released beta 2 of the your_adventure audiogame!Lot and lot has changed when koma7.2 and i started on this project a few years ago. It all started as a joke from koma, and i started putting stuff together, we never would have imagined the game to be evolved to what it is now. It more and more gets the shape of a codebase on wich we can add stuff with more ease when the project grows. Also with great thanks to hatlor, who discovers bugs as soon as he starts playing the thing, so without koma, hatlor, and all players from aug.net, this never would become reality. But ah well, enough rambling from my side, lets get to the changes, and below the changes the link to our your_adventure page will be presented, from where the game can be downloaded.updates from rough beta 2 to beta 2 - rewrote the fishing system, credits to dark of the audiogames.net community. this one probably still need some work on it. - added a skill based system wich can be used in combat. - for the new skill based system, you can learn abilities at a trainer. - added the D button while in combat to hear a description of your enemy. - the game will check if a save file is present, all players have to start with a new game, sorry. - added a training point system, you'll get a tp when you get a combat level. - added the A button while in combat to select an ability wich you bought for a trainingpoint. - added two basic abilities, and one wich is a combination from the first two. - added a lot of new sounds and music. - fixed the musical errors wich were present when rough beta2 got released. - added a new area the forest. -expanded the beach area, i am curious if people make the link of the docks  - added several secret locations, one of them is bound by a season, but wich? - rewrote the code for the quest: kill 5 rats in the sewers for the bartender. - added 5 new quests. - one of these quests is the mobquest. - made the harvesting code seperate, so it can be used for other harvestables as well. - added the red berries and the blueberries as resources wich can be harvested at a second location where harvesting is now available. - the berries mentioned above are also visible in the inventory now. - added the woodsmans axe. - added woodcuttiny. - added the blue crab as enemy in the beach area. - added screenreader support. - rewrote the credits page. - added a configure speech method option in the main menu and the character information. - added keyisfull and coderunner to the credits. - expanded the world to 52 rooms. - removed the g and s keys for grinding, that was a bit pointless. - removed the experience, achievements and skill levels for grinding. - fixed some bugs. - it is now no longer possible to enter nothing or zero when a edit field is presented. - probably some updates we forgot  The link to our page:http://www.nonvisiongames.com/youradventure.htmAs Always, when any bugs occur, please let us know via this topic, or by sending an email via our contact page.greetz mike

I was wondering about that as well. i do quite a lot of emulation, but mapping controls on OpenEmu is next to impossible. If someone has any idea of how to do this that would be awesome. As it is, one can play the games just fine, but the controls are set up in a very strange way if you're trying to use a joystick or any other type of controller. If you use the keyboard you're fine, but when using a joystick of any kind it gets a little strange.

Sooo! i tried one race and it was nice.I noticed a few things.One that the steering  assistant ignores the AI mostly and you will smash to the back of them. I tried to find a way to go round them but it's a hard task since the best way to over take cars is at the turns, or at the straights where you can top their speedSecondly, I  Noticed that different parts of the track have different environment sounds, and that you can increase the volume of that. which is pretty cool. you could remember turns of a single track if with that sorta stuff.And finally, the place where you can view and buy cars is crowded and i couldn't figure to find out what are tears and such.overall this is a fun game but It would be cool if there were more audible cues, specially for turns, and  text to speech that would tell you your lap times, your distance to previous car and your distance to the next car.

the thing is you won't get very far in torn unless you commit yourself. If you fuck things up, you can easily spend months trapped on one level without being able to advance, also I do think if you lose in combat you actually do lose xp. As for things like factions and the like don't even bother joining them unless you're really into the whole pvp thing because faction war is how most factions gain respect and advance in the rankings. So if you do join a faction that is activly involved in wars, be prepared to spend a lot of time in hospital unless you or your faction have a steady supply of meds available. Deception and conning are a thing in torn and that's why you should know what you're doing. Usually if someone makes you an offer that's too good to be true it is, just like in real life. Things to avoid for example are people that will give you money if you attack them with say fists only and lose. What's probably going to happen is you lose, then you become a punching bag for a while.

Hello guys,as blind gamers I thought we ought to turn things on their heads a bit and instead of talking about blind gaming, we instead talk about the blind in games, both audiogames and actual games in the mainstream. There is no restriction on media, and in fact most of my examples I'm starting with are tabletop or card game characters, so if you know of a tabletop rpg character or something, feel free to share. Here's what I've got to start.Kenshi from the Mortal Combat series: This guy is a blind swordsman with telekinetic powers. In the first game I remember him from "Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance" I think he wore a bandage over his eyes. One of his fatality moves was that he would telekinetically dismember his foes, popping their eyes out onto the ground as the first step. His blindness in what little story there is is never presented as a handicap and I'll tell you he could be pretty nasty if you fought someone who knew how to use him. I think the character is actually based on a Japanese legend but not sure.Now onto the D characters I know of.1. Grimlocks: If you've ever heard of eyeless cave fish, imagine eyeless cave people instead. These creatures, I believe most likely heavily inspired by the Morlocks of the Time Machine, became lost in the underdark (an enormous realm of caverns that extends for thousands of miles below most D worlds) and were enslaved by mind flayers. Like most captives of the mind flayers, they were experimented on until they were inexorably changed, made permanently mad and rather wild and bloodthirsty. After the mind flayer empire fell, the sub-intelligent creatures continued to worship the mind flayers as gods, often serving as slaves for more intelligent, more powerful peoples of the underdark. In terms of power, they are a weak, low-level threat, however, they have some interesting skills surrounding their blindness. They have blindsense over 60 feet. This means they can't be affected by the blind status and also automatically detect any object within 60 feet of them, including invisible enemies. However, if they are caught in an illusion that makes a lot of noise or are deafened, they gain the negative effects of being blinded as well. The Six Swords Alexxa game features these monsters here and there.Detrechans: another bizarre predator of the underdark, Detrechans are sort of like four-legged giant featherless ostriches. Though they are more monstrous than that. They hunt by echolocation and can even harness their  sonic cries to launch blasts of sound that are basically hammer blows on their enemies. They are actually highly intelligent though they are pretty evil. Though they are very much a serious threat and could easily murder a low-level party.I'm not going to go into oozes and all the creatures that obviously are blind from having no eyes at all by the category of monster they are. but there's two unique characters of relatively recent date that appear in published D adventures, one more or less good and one evil, though they are very similar to one another in terms of stats and basic archetype.Uller: (guessing on spelling of the name as I haven't seen the adventure in nearly 10 years) A githzerai monk in the "scales of War" adventure path published in Dungeon Magazine, Uller appears in an early portion of the adventure when Githyanki pirates (githyanki are sort of an antagonistic cousin race of the gitzerai.) attack his monastery while the heroes and players are there. The players can't stay together and win the fight because the monastery is enormous and the pirates are attacking on several fronts, so they have to split up and run several simultaneous fights in several places. Uller can come with the heroes or go elsewhere, as he's the grandmaster of the monastery. However, along with blindsight, he has among the highest stats of any monster in that adventure and wherever you send him, he's well-equipped to take care of the threat wherever he goes pretty much by himself. For some reason the game won’t run, it just plays the door close sound and nothing. I don’t have cheat engine installed so not sure what’s going on. It worked fine for me before. Anyone know what i can do?

My response about the Trek GPS is in the Victor Reader Stream's big brother thread.The devil is in the details. Something else I've noticed, though is probably more of a problem with Amazon music than with the Echo or Alexa. Often when playing a playlist or a station from Amazon music, I'd have to adjust the volume because the tracks being played vary in their volume level. The previous track played was fine at volume 4, but the current track is too loud requiring that I change the volume level to 3, then the next track is too quiet, requiring me to raise the volume level back up to 4, really annoying. That annoyance doesn't seem to occur at all with Google play music. I can simply set the volume where I want it and it's fine all day long.One thing I've considered about the various music services, it's kind of like email, before I discovered the convenience of never having to go through changing email addresses by using an email service that is independent of the internet service provider, every time my internet provider changed, I'd get a new email address, and just like moving, would have to tell everyone my new email address, what a pain. Using a music service tied to Amazon or Google could be the same, if I change assistants, I'll have to re set up the music service all over again, but if I sign up with an independent music service like Pandora or Spotify, then, just like an independent email service, as long as the new assistant supports the music service, I'm good to go.

I have a Vizio SB-4551D sound bar and it has Chromecast built into it.   The bar is a 5.1 with wireless subwoofer and rear speakers.   Thought I'd mention this since this is about Chromecast and GOogle etc.     I don't have a Home speaker, so I couldn't test how  useful it actually is,  but thought I'd throw this out there.

I got a philosophy degree actually and I specialize in ethics. I don't get Kant's limitations he tries to put on certain questions and although I'm a huge fan of ethics, I don't think Kant's morality works in the real world. However, I am very much an advocate of reading people you disagree with. So to paraphrase Niezche here, "Never have I read something and found with every sentence, no, no, no, no!" I think there is some validity  to wanting to read folks you disagree with. It helps you formulate your own stance and view it more critically, and also helps you prepare counterarguments against ways of thinking you disagree with.I admittedly pay for my books, and btw I also have the complete works of Karl Marx from the same series, but the price is so negigeable for such convenience with easy navigation, scholarly commentary, good organization, and included criticisms, biographies, and in many cases, personal correspondence, I think the $1.40 I paid for this was worth it. I get everything Kant wrote in a single volume for peanuts and I've found that the organization, navigation, and completeness of the collections are definitely worth it.  And I read the entire thing from front to back before moving onto another book, so it keeps me occupied for quite some time. I imagine I won't be done with Kant for several weeks. I also enjoy the commentary in the beginning of each source, the knowledge I'm getting a good translation (I've read Kant in his original German back in college but no longer have the works as I speak German and A lot of those online sources aren't great on that.) and also having everything in one place. as I use my fire despite everything it can do for reading only. I don't read on my computer if I can help it, for some reason the kindle is easier, faster, and more comfortable, though I also have issues because I don't have the foreign voices for JAWS to read in other languages coherently or know how to adjust the speech reading language on the kindle if I wanted to read German books.Also, I'm not reading Kant for school right now but for my own personal enrichment. I can find almost any subject interesting, as I've even bought extensive chemistry books for my own personal amusement.

It's quite possible you may have a defective unit. Mine's had its fair share of software issues - map expiration on April1, among other things. We also have audio only playing the left and center channels and muting out the right, which is something the stream2 did not have an issue with despite both units having a mono speaker. I called tech support about both issues and they said it was either an issue with the audio processing as I had thought it was, or that the map license expired and I should just change the date back to 2017.

Hmmm Bookrage, you actually paid! for the works of Kant? That is sort of nuts given that everywhere from wikisource to project gutenberg has them freely available online, I used such things a lot throughout my degree whenever I had to read Kant, Descartes, Locke, Hume, even Rawls and Marks, not to mention any of the griek philosophers. Cant I am afraid I am no fan of. From his aesthetics to his ethics he just seems a super cold fish with an over inflated idea of human reason general, and his own reason in particular, hell any man whom other people used to set their watches by because he always took a walk at precisely! the same time every day doesn't seem to be someone in a good position to comment on any sort of basic human virtue or pleasure at all, since I doubt he's got experience of much .

Thanks, Jack! I had forgotten this thread from when I first heard about the Trek. Seems like ages ago.I actually haven't done all that much with the GPS as I'm not all that confident in my mobility skills, so I tend to limit going on foot to just those places that are within a block of home, and don't really need a GPS for getting there.One time I tried it was while in a car going to my folks house for a visit, after putting on headphones, and switching to orientation mode and switching on the GPS, and putting it on the dash so it had nothing but the wind shield above it, it couldn't acquire a signal.I've also tried it just to learn how to use it while walking to the grocery store, it got a signal but had a hard time keeping it. I eventually gave up and switched it off.I don't know whether I have a defective unit, or it just needs some software bugs fixed, I tried reaching out to humanware but got less than reasonable support. The impression I got was they didn't want to hear about a possible warranty repair or replacement.

I got it working now. Install the Windows Media Audio Redistributables Package on the Audio Games archive, and it should work. Thanks for the help guys.
