Re: Invalid reason for banning racer max Basically what happened Frankie, is that the guy made statements which sounded like maybe he'd been banned before. So Jade checked his IP and the website which said his previous username and all that, but in his actual moderation he failed to explain that he'd done so, leading to this confusion, since of course now people are thinking he banned him only because he sorta kinda hinted at evading a ban but not really. As for the game having stolen code, spreading misconception that was the communities doing. It never had any baring on the ban as far as I can tell, and weather it was or was not a so called clone doesn't even enter into the picture because the ban evasion is the bigger offense regardless. Re: List of Muds for Cooking, Crafting, Farming, and Exploration @mirage, did you check out coremud? see this topic It had a lot of really nice systems that I liked, in particular very detailed mining, item building and lots of interesting quests. I particularly liked how at higher levels you could specialise in one activity, EG engineering, mining or combat, and be slightly better at that thing, but not preclude yourself from doing either of the others. It also really was a game that made me feel as if I were on an alien planet working for a mining company, with getting my own quarters etc.Sadly, a lot of the game systems revolve around interaction and got changed to automate, which means economic interactions don't really pan out, EG I believe at one time you actually had to buy things from a human shopkeeper, but there's still a really interesting game in there all the same, with farming, building, quests, and of course lots and lots and lots of mining . Re: how to live your life philosophicly Hedonism. Just find yourself something that gives you the kick and live off of it. It's not even that hard to find pleasure these days, just turn off the TV, stop going on social networks, and play games or whatever gives you the pleasure you need. Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username
Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username Basically, I started playing redspot, and I had to pick a name. I at first went with a variation of my real name, but at the same time I was listening to AC/DC and there was this one song called Big Gun. I don't actually use this name anymore, but because I already change my username on this sight once I can't change it into anything else, or at least I think so.Edit: I think I should also explain some other usernames I hae since I don't really use this one anymore. So either ways, my most common one seems to be Ferrumite, which is basically iron in Latin plus cool thin at the end. There is one that I no longer use but I actually quite like and that is Drastic Supertastica. I think that I was once on SBYW and I just typed that into the chat once. Boom. That's all. There are also a million other random names I've made for different games, Lastrador, TheCrazedBartender, Seynik Reynikant, etc, and I don't think that there is any good explanation for any of these usernames, it's just something I came up with when I was sitting in that stupid "type in your name" edit box. Re: The forgotten islands, a new online rpg
Re: The forgotten islands, a new online rpg Ok so I have accepted the kill the spiders quest but I have no idea how to finish it. In the quest journal it keeps saying 0/10 even though I must have killed tens of spiders by now.Apart from this though the game is pretty fun. A few things that you can consider.*There should be a way to speed up regeneration of the vital statistics. It's not that I think that it goes too slow or anything, but being able to speed them up would be pretty useful.*Add skills. What they would do is give your character additional powers that cannot be used like abilities, and are instead used in the background during gameplay. For instance, there might be a skill called dodge, which would allow the character to, well, dodge the enemies attacks, and higher the dexterity, the better the character would be able to dodge.*Make it easier to receive gold. As far as I know, the only way to get gold in this game is by completing quest, and I have no idea how to do that as of now. Maybe have a small reward every time you kill an enemy, or maybe have some items spawn from time to time, I'm not sure. Here are just some of the ideas off the top of my head. So far this looks like it will be a great game and I wish you all the best. I'm pretty sure a link to that game is still present on this forum. As far as I'm aware, the admins didn't remove links, they just banned the user and moved on. If they deleted the link, then I agree they should have checked the game out before coming to any conclusions if they didn't do that first. However, this is about his ban evasion. Re: Survive the Wild! my honestly opinion in this game. i heard that new survive the wild system it isn't good when compare to previous one.let's see for example, you can have 3000 energy why the free is 1000 it find for free account.but when come to paid account it disadvantage i agree energy should limit.but why is 3000 if increase to 5000 it find you know travel from map to map is cause high energy.for instance travel from mainland to fishing village by boat it cause more than 1000 energy free account is sleeping more time.i know this can reduce speed by many people padding at the same time but some time most player don't go for it if they don't want.unless you have teleporter, but wait teleporter cost money so many people don't buy for traveling at one place.since it gone after using and not worth money that much.and this is another example why paid player in stw is likely the same free account unless item limit.gift yes correct previous free account can get 16 per day, but not sure about paid account.now free player can get 10 and paid account can get 20 per day.this is sad. i agree gift should limit.but instead why not free account can get 20 or 25 per day and paid account can get 50 or 60 per day.you know gift it random stuff from the boxes most of the time is give useless thing for example balloon_pack clothes that you have already.other than that few time it give useful stuff.this is more example but i lazy to type it all and this is the true fact that i know.sorry for is being harsh about to current stw player but true is true don't have to avoid at all. Re: games (Steam or Microsoft store) accessible for a totally blind person @27, I've talked with a friendof mine who holds the same opinion as yours then. "I can't play it, I can't see who I'm shooting at". True, you can't, and maybe its just me, but I like the challenge of the fact that there's no in-game accessibility (tere's accessibility in the menus, just not, say, for shooting at someone). Yeah you can fall off ledges and all but the ledges are, from all the maps I've played, at the edges of the map, not anywhere else. So if you figure out where the edges are and then avoid them you should be good (unless your on a custom map for example). Avoiding them is easy: don't walk too far in any one direction. Playing isn't hard when your playing with friends. On Slayer for example your hole goal is to, uh, slay everyone and everything. So you just turn and shoot at wherever you here footsteps. Team matches are a lot harder, and I suck at those, but like I said, I like the extra challenge. Re: My free and open-source hobby operating system
Re: My free and open-source hobby operating system Another update. Just finished the identify_device() safe function -- its about 400 lines of code or so) which builds all the data structures and strings for you. It unfortunately needs to use memory (I used a Vec<> and an heap-allocated string for drive serial number, media serial number, firmware revision and model number) but that's not much, less than 200 bytes or so. Also, thanks to Smartmontools's source code, specifically their ATA commands source code, helped me figure out the byte swapping that ATA8 ACS does. Its a tad confusing. Now onto verifying the twos compliment CRC32 of the entire structure to verify that the ATA controller and me are on the same page...Edit: all done. However, either my code is messed up, I'm invoking Qemu wrong, or Qemu is not ATA8 ACS compliant, because bits 7:0 of word 255 from identify device should contain 0xA5, but they're all zero. Huh. Re: What's the Story Behind your Forum Username First *Devours the Chocolate Chip cookie of evil* Now, my name doesn't quite have any epic beginnings or anything. It actually was a randomly generated name for a bezhuldaar character on the mud Lost Souls. bezhuldaars are just the alternate name for beholders (to avoid the long reach of Wizard of the Coasts legal team*.
Now onto verifying the twos compliment CRC32 of the entire structure to verify that the ATA controller and me are on the same page... My issue is more with the rng of that rather than any problems with the bosses. Also one can set the Nuzlock to end after becoming manamon Master, so bonus bosses don't really need to be done. Strangely, the easiest bosses in the game become the most annoying fights for a Nuzlock, go figure. Though I'm curious. Anyone know if Master Dyas spams his instant kill attack in a 1 v 1 if a target is immune? And by "far more about computers" I don't mean the stuff you learn everyday, I mean the bloody details that the average joe could care less about.2) As post one indicates, it can't execute any programs whatsoever yet. At this time it outputs both to the screen and to a serial port (either virtual or physical). I've just recently learned how to properly utilize disks, so yeah.3) Its not based off of anything. Re: Lossless Audio in Games Sorry for taking this a bit off-topic, but being the retro tech geek I am, I love experimenting with different ways of making audio as small as possible, especially back in the day when it had to be programmed into a tiny ROM chip. As far as I know the first talking device of any kind with no moving parts except for the speaker was the TeleSensory Speech+ talking calculator which came out in around 1976. While it's true that it had a vocabulary of about twenty-four words and the speech was completely monotonic and weird sounding by even the standards of the early 80's, they managed to get those twenty-four words into, if I'm not mistaken, a two-kilobyte ROM. That's right, 2,048 bytes. Re: Bloodbath released!
Re: Bloodbath released! @388, you don't need to know what direction the other player is facing, that is irelivent. You can use the tracking menu to get an idea of where you are facing in relation to the player. If the tracking menu says in front and slightly or very slightly off to the , you can be fairly sure you're on target to hit them assuming of corse that you're in range. It can be kind of confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it eventually.Spider-man, the only reason ultrabombs have a sound is so that you know that the person you're trying to kill is placing an ultrabomb, and of corse so you know you can use an ultrabomb if you see one lying around and have enough coins for it. Mines and wirebombs are supposed to have no sound, they're designed to catch players by surprise. I do see your point about the wirebombs though, that could possibly be changed. I never thought of using the GPU for audio processing... what a novel idea. The main issue is the shaders. Re: Survive the Wild!
Re: Survive the Wild! I decided to revisit this game since I haven't played it in a few years.I see that not much has changed in terms of server lag. Whether this has to do with location, the server's internet connection, BGT, or some combination of those I don't know. There are periods where the game locks up and I'm unable to do anything but close the client. Sometimes lag happens in certain sections of a map as well, and leaving said section fixes it. Thankfully rain doesn't lag the whole game anymore, which is nice. It's just disappointing that so much lag and false speedhack detection still exists after all this time. The game still feels very pay-to-win, and if you dump enough money into it, you can be nearly invincible. This is supposed to be Survive The Wild, not Pay to Survive The Wild. Teleporters are pretty nice to have, but when you can buy a ton of gifts and never have to gather anything, or buy a ton of energy/health boosts and never have to rest, that feels almost as bad as cheating. Air necklaces also don't make much sense. SCUBA gear would make more sense. There's also this little thing about free accounts being limited in what they can purchase with STW points. Supposedly this is due to cheaters, but it still feels like a slap in the face for people who don't cheat and can't or don't wish to pay. I also see that the whole spam character thing is still there, which I still feel is a bit silly. You have to pay to use a name if it's less than five characters long, or the account gets deleted. I was really hoping this wasn't a thing anymore. While I appreciate the detail in some of the crafting changes, some items now require a lot of glue. Glue is extremely, extremely hard to come by unless you pay for survival packs and such, which bleeds over into pay-to-win. If there was a way to craft glue, this would be a bit better. That said, i'm not currently aware of a means to craft glue without some sort of modern equipment. I may do some research into that though. As others have pointed out, the temperature system is a bit much. However, you can craft paper fans to cool yourself off. I discovered this by accident when finding a paper fan in the camp site. I was also expecting being wet or in water to cool you down, but that bit of physics doesn't seem to be coded yet. The constant spam of you have to stop to cool off is also rather irritating, especially since speech from events instantly interrupts any other speech even when the screen reader interrupt option is disabled.Speaking of the camp site, the boomerangs, hammocks, and survival packs seem to have been taken out. You can get bags of string there now though, which is neat. However, this makes survival packs and hammocks even more difficult to get without paying, and to my knowledge boomerangs are now impossible to find. This is unless I'm mistaken and those things are just now much harder to find.I haven't yet been to the new version of the fishing village, but if it's easy to die there from mutated wolves, that's kind of not cool due to how much of a pain it is to get to the village in the first place. This is one way the whole pay-to-win thing creates an issue.I think that's everything. There are definitely things that could be improved, but it's nice to see that Sam is still keeping the project alive. It's still fun to play from time to time, and yes, I did pay so I could use Draq for my name. A bit silly as I said, but it is what it is. The forgotten islands, a new online rpg It was a long time since I last posted here. But, i'd like to present you a project i'm currently working on my free time, called The Forgotten Islands. This is an online RPG where your progression is made by training abilities to gain xp and improve your character stats. The game is set on a medieval universe, with few weapons and equipment, and only one possible item to craft because I ran out of ideas. It is still on the early stage of development, but i'd like to receive feedback on where to improve the game. Also, i'd like to apologize for the lack of English translation for some quests and areas, but i'll try to improve it with time.I'll be glad to answer any question regarding the game when possible. You can download the game using this link http://www.blindgameplay.com/Games/Forg … slands.zipHow to switch to English: when starting the main menu music, press down, enter, enter, down then enter again.I hope your guys can have fun with the content already available in the game, if possible. Re: Lossless Audio in Games
Re: Lossless Audio in Games @Zoren: With the NVidia gtx1650 with 4gb of dedicated memory shipping with some higher end laptops, that isn't a very tall order, as long as we can trust people to make the proper judgement call when buying machines. This dell xps15 7590 with 16gb of ram and the core i7 6core hyperthreading cpu was around $1700, and the mac population probably knows better than anyone that so-called entry-level macs are sold at close to the same price and don't have nearly as much going for them.Regarding hardware, fortunately the software-hardware audio landscape is changing ofr the better. This machine comes with Waves Max audio pro and some good speakers, capable of running asio drivers and complex reaper setups, and virtual surround is becoming powerful enough that Waves can pump an Abby Road Studio studio monitor setup through a pair of headphones. So gpu-powered hrtf doesn't seem too far fetched. Re: My free and open-source hobby operating system
Re: My free and open-source hobby operating system @23, if you really want to understand all of the gory details -- what all the bits mean and all that, the structure names and stuff won't be enough (for things like the HDA driver or the ATA driver). For the HDA driver, you'll need the Intel HDA specification, and for the ATA driver you'll need at least two standards, both of which are unfortunately paid. The first is INCITS 452-2009 (R 2019), ATA/ATAPI Command Set (ATA8-ACS), which is $60.00, and the Serial ATA specification Revision 3.4, which is $75.00. Its unfortunate that they're paid, but they are, and the only way for all of this to even be remotely workable you've gotta have them. The OSDev wiki is also an excellent resource, but it cannot possibly make up for what the standards cover (its ATA command matrix isn't even accurate and holds commands that are no longer defined in the latest revision). Re: Bloodbath released!
Re: Bloodbath released! And how do I understand the other player which cardinal point he is turned to? Unfortunately I didn't die without having time to turn in the right direction to fight back. Then, in the safe zone what are the things that can be done? The usefulness of the safe zone escapes me. One last thing, why don't mines explode even if I step on them? I only hear their hum. Re: Lossless Audio in Games
Re: Lossless Audio in Games I would love a world where lossless 24 bit, at least 96K audio was the standard in gaming, but that would require pretty expensive hardware to even be able to hear the difference, assuming your ears were even capable (some people can't tell the difference). In a slightly related note, I wonder if audio games could ever leverage the GPU to do HTRF computations for audio, so that we can actually make use of that processor the way sighted people do? Then we could have amazing audio that's handled by a secondary processor, allowing the main CPU to handle other aspects of the game. There are definitely ways to get the GPU to pull its weight (such as in bitcoin miners and other scientific applications), so if we could ever bring this to the world of audio gaming, I think it'd open up a vast world of computing power where we could process environments, characters, objects, and everything that might produce an audio in beautifully rendered 3D audio, all without bogging down the CPU that could be used to be doing other game operations.Kai URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/492137/#p492137 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
