Godville Questions

2021-01-11 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : GrannyCheeseWheel via Audiogames-reflector

Godville Questions

SO I know at least one person here plays Godville at least well enough to have an ark, which is very well indeed since it requires the completion of the temple first. I have a few questions. First of all, how much influence do you really have? My hero is an irreverent little twat waffle most of the time. He smarts off to me even when I punish him. I want him to level up, but I can't get him to actually do quests. He's in a guild now, which is good because at least he gets free healing. But I feel like I have to baby sit his stupid ass because if I'm not there to heal him, he'll let his health drain low as fuck and keep getting into fights. He's been on level 19 for three or four days now which is just... bwah. He has a pet, but the sun dog doesn't really do anything. Is that normal? I guess it's because he's low level. When your pet raises in level, will they end up aiding in fights more often? There are things in the GodWiki that talk about this having elements of a ZPG if you choose to go that way. But I feel like no matter what I do, I can't influence him. I've found the list of god voice commands that work, and he listens to them maybe 20% of the time. I wish he'd stop being a fat dumpling eating dingleberry and start getting golden bricks. I wish that punishing him would actually have an effect. I wish that commanding him to pray or sacrifice would have more of an effect more often.I don't really feel like a god. I feel like the parent of a teen trying to get them on the right path, and they're like screw you dad, and do what they want anyway. I do like the game, but I feel that at this rate of progress, I'll have my temple in like 5 years?Does anyone have any advice on how to get the plump train going at full steam ahead? And yes, plump is in his name, lol.

I've never liked that, but what do you do now. I also get the fact that Nate was mad young when he started this, so I can't fault him for the spiral the economy took. It's part of the game now, for better or worse. Attempting to correct it now might end up pissing off their player base. I also don't understand economics at nearly 35 years of age, so...I bet they're using Stunt though, or toaststunt as the max integer stock MOO is a number like 2.7 some odd billion stored in $maxint or #0.maxint.

Not yet? Not ever. It's not going to happen. You propose a solution that will allow you to dodge HEPs, jump through portals while you also have an idea of how much momentum you have left, find the moving platforms, know where you can and cannot portal, trace the lines on the floor so you know which button goes to which door or which two buttons go together. You think modders will help you? You'll just get laughed off wherever you find them. Or one of them might try because they pity the poor blindie, but then realize what a monumental task they've undertaken and ghost you in short order.

Re: where realism and unrealism cross the lines

I'm not really sure what you're getting at. I will say that it goes to extremes. Hell, anything you see in this community is child's play compared to the wider world. You might hear something like this game sucks here. But look at gaming communities and se how insane they get with their hatred, even so far as in some instances, to throw out death threats to the creators.I think games work best when the creators balance their vision against community wishes. And yes, I mean denying some things that might even make some sense, if they're doing it because it doesn't fit the lore. As a creator, if you're too focused on what you want, your reach narrows. You won't hit as wide an audience because your vision is so laser focused, that only a small portion of people will like it.If you're too open, you allow your game to be ran by a chorus of chaotic voices. Your game, the one that you and your team spent tens of thousands of hours on. From abstract design, to artwork, sound, code, etc. Pandering to the crowd can also net you a loss of audience, because there's essentially no vision left.I don't know if maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it sounds like from what you're not directly saying, that there's an undertone in what you are saying. It goes something like this, "You're allowed to have an opinion, and I support your ability to do so; however, I don't want `you to speak it if it's critical of the game."" What supports this notion is what seems to be very carefully worded rebukes to those who have done so. This is also bad. With no dissenting voices, we'll never have something the majority of us will enjoy because the people who might be listening will hear nothing but good things. Let the bitchers bitch. You're not gonna stop them anyhow. If they want to expound upon how they think everything is wrong with a particular game, and they have a pattern of doing the same thing all the time, then just ignore them. Focus on criticism that's constructive in nature. Where issues are brought up and solutions are proposed.

Re: In the midst of rage, we found a place in the cosmos.

I have a sort of thing with it. So, there was a time when I was all about it. Then I became a host for a while, and learned that the playerbase really cannot RP worth a shit. We tried back then to foster RP by any means necessary, and you know what happened, diddly squat. But I can't fault the staff for that, it's the people who need to do better. Maybe this is not true anymore since it's been forever since I've been on.Another thing that makes me not want to come on is that I didn't think I would play anymore and deleted my chars, fine. But re-going through the newbie process really 9fucking sucks. The first few levels are so mind numbingly boring that I just can't force myself to do it.I can't speak to how things are now, and I don't think it's fair to make assumptions. I was hitting a point where there was less to do though. And I was also hitting a point of having stupid amounts of cash.I feel the pain though about the military swooping down and dealing with everything. I mean, granted, that's kind of how it's supposed to happen, but still. There could be something where they go into a sector, and get overwhelmed, then disabled. They call for any assistance, so civies roll up and start dealing with enemies and rescue the military ship. Something to reassure the civies they're not useless garbage ya know. The babies thing, I have disagreed with that since day, friggin, one. I've already written my thoughts on that, so really no point in rehashing old shit.Another thing that bothered me is the smoking, and the lackadaisical attitude that went into implementing it. I think if you want to do something, you should do it properly. Those smoking messages are so ridiculously over the top though that it's just stupid. They'll say something like you take a drag on your cigarette and proceed to hack up a lung. Like, do you really see people doing that? My thought is, if they didn't want smoking in the game, then don't add it, but don't make it out to be this entirely over the top weird thing that makes you look like you're having a stroke in front of people.I also learned about the factory biofarms having pot you can grow. Someone told me about this, and that you can just literally harvest it and smoke it. No drying and curing, no grinding, no bowl needed, no lighter, no nothing. Let's just smoke buds right off the plant because we're magical like that.Where it counts though, they're good about things. I thought, and still do that posting 150 changes every day just to prove you're doing something is a bit over the top, but they are constantly working on improvements. They're good about getting your donator items sorted quickly, and customer support and all that. Which is the stuff that really matters. I could wish for less boring starting activities, and high level stuff. I think we all could. But the core experience, I think they have down pat. The humor stuff is not to my taste, but that's just down to me not really liking british humor, and is less about the game over all. It's purely a preferential thing.

Re: issues with force feedback in audiogames that support it

@2 is correct, however I would like to clarify the difference between force feedback and rumble. The PS4 controller does not offer force feedback. It offers haptic feedback via the rumble motors. Force feedback is when a control device actively manipulates it's own joystick or wheel in order to convey information. This can be done in flight sticks, in which case, having force feedback can convey whether your aircraft is properly trimmed. It can help give a sense of aerodynamic forces playing on your aircraft as well. In a steering wheel, force feedback will give you a feel of not only the road or track you're driving on, but allows you to feel the amount of grip your tires have. While controllers that rumble can give varying degrees of the same types of feedback, they can't come anywhere close to approximating the accuracy of force feedback. This is simply because they are not able to actuate their own controls, they are just able to produce vibrations. This can be done in a constant way left, right, mixing left and right, and sending waveforms to simulate certain things. But rumble is not force feedback, nor is force feedback comparable to rumble.

@83 Get poultices if you can. If Artus is around, you may get them for free because he's silly like that XD. You don't need any special skill to apply the poultices to the bandages. You can get colored ones if you know where to look. This is good because you can then refer to bands by their color to use the right poultice for that wound.

Even to go as far as calling it xenophobia isn't a problem for me, fine, I admit that I am probably xenophobic towards China. Most definitely their government. Less so the general citizenry. However, given that some of them believe in what their government is doing is not good. China is a huge force to be reckoned with. Their population is immense, and given how much the CCP has its hooks into everything, yes, I damn well want to take caution when dealing with this sort of thing. There's a line though. If I were to say something like fuck china, brainwashed cunts is all they are, that's a little different than exercising caution over who gets access to my data... or at least, who could potentially get access.I can appreciate that there are good things coming from China, as this game seems to be while still expressing a certain wariness for taking part in them for fear of something happening to me or my data. I'm also not claiming that it's a certainty either.

The thing about Clok is that you need to know where it's OK to go and where it's not based on analyzing your battles. You get a lot of combat info, and it can be tempting to ignore it, but don't. If it's too much to keep up with during a fight, at least review it afterward. You will want to see how mismatched you are Vs. your opponent. Right now, stay in Tarueka. If the guys in the environs get too easy, go to the farm house. When they get too easy, go to the town.

Re: assistance with Mushclient

For sound triggers, wildcards will get you by for a while, but eventually, you will need to graduate to regular expressions. You can write your sound trigger like this:there is a sudden white flash around (.*)\.This matches more precisely. The parens form what is called a lexical grouping, in essence, this ties the first set of parens to %1, the second to %2 and so on. You could then use these variables in your code just as before. The .* inside them just means to match as many instances of a character as you find. the * is the quantifier meaning 0 or more, and the dot is a match for any character. The other thing I'm not so sure about because I don't know the game and how this command works.Send ("tpa @tpd")I'm guessing that tpa is an in game command? But then wheat is @tpd, because that is not how we refer to variables in mushclient. Unless of course, this pack they gave you added parsers for things I'm not sure of. I'm going to need a bit more information on the workings of this command and how it is used, and when.By the way, you do have your send to box in the alias set to script, right? If not, it should be. You're calling the Send() function which is a lua script function that sends the given text to the world.

Re: Developing a new game. Asking the community some questions!

2020-12-05 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : GrannyCheeseWheel via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Developing a new game. Asking the community some questions!

1. Audio is very important for us. If you consider for a moment that most of the users of this forum are blind - as in no vision with light perception or none at all, you'll quickly se that sound design is integral for a good and immersive experience.2. This depends on whether or not you want to make the game accessible to blind people, or if you feel the visuals are the driving force, and want to accommodate partially sighted people and not make it playable for the blind. If you do want to make it blind playable, you could have someone record voice lines for the menus, or use one of several libraries for screen readers or write your own class to interface with the screen readers' APIs.3. Yes. Make good use of occlusion if you can't directly go from point A to B. Let's imagine your goal is to work your way through a maze and collect musical notes as you go. You start out hearing one in front and to the left, so you walk left, then try to go forward, but you smack into a wall. OK, there's a wall there, great, but where's the opening. You could just bump along it until you found a way through, or things on the other side of it could be muffled slightly, then, when you do find the opening, you can clearly hear the sound when you pass through.4. For low vision people, absolutely it's important. I was partially sighted until my vision deteriorated. Point of fact, I can still see, but I don't really use my vision anymore because it's so unreliable and I have problems with maintaining focus that it's just easier to essentially ignore it. For every person with a wide variety of visual conditions, there's an infinite amount of combinations of things that will work and those that won't work for them. Put simply, offer as much customizability over colors as you can. Colors, brightness, contrast, different foregrounds and backgrounds, etc. This is mainly for text readability, I don't think anyone expects you to render your entire game in some weird sepia tone.5. I guess I rolled all of that into one.

I like it when games of this sort make guns a sort of mid to end game thing, or a lucky lucky find. And if you want to use a gun, you can't use any other weapons or carry any. If you come across anything else, taking it will drop the gun, same with any other weapon.
