Its time I get off my lazy butt and get in shape. When I get back out to school I should be outrunning and outlasting those sighted bastards! That'll teach em to be inclusive. Let's hope I don't trip on one of the giant ass cracks we have all over our bloody field.Seriously though, I can't for the love of god understand this. Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

I drink at least two litters of water a day... one and a half of them is because of exercise and the rather warm weather I am in now, rest is from food and juices that I eat the rest of the day. I loved dr. pepper when I was in the States, but I guess one sip of that right now and it will make me spin. Also, I find lemon water really refreshing so that satisfies most of my thirst. I rarely drink soda nowadays, but remember that foods do also contain water, like fruits, veggies, and even animals and so on. You also use water to cook pasta and rice, so that's also viable haha. You can also get used to consume less sugar in drinks by putting a little less each time, or by dumbing down drinks with regular water, or say, put some greek yogurt and mix it with the regular sweetened one and so on. Little by little, gradually and it will work.Next time you are (impulsively) reaching for a triple chocolate cookie, imagine (or even try instead) to eat three of the big sized spoons of plain sugar and that will calm you for sure. This does not mean you could enjoy them every three days though, slowly, byte by byte and that is actually how the french can eat their wonderful pastries and things and still maintain the same weight plus other secrets in that article, like trying to get the very best ingredients for your deserts and such.Stuff i need to work on_? three more pull ups and I could do all 10 in a row!

I have a strategy that seems to work for me, which is that for every ounce of sugary drink I have I have to make up for it with 2 ounces of water.  A 16 ounce can of soda means 32 ounces of water.  You'd better believe that makes me think twice as to whether I'm actually thirsty or not.

I’ve had good results with one called “Brita Metro” so far, here are the details:  Filter change due every 40 gallons or 2 months, has an indicator to give you a heads up.  Spent about $20, filters run about $5 and there’s a noticeable difference in taste, but I can tell you we have very hard water out here in Philadelphia area.I’ll update in the next month if things go south, but fingers crossed.

I don't think they do that much. Now, maybe there are better ones than the ones I've tried, but A) They take so damn long to fill because the filtration is so slow and B) they don't seem to improve the taste that much.

Good topic & replies.Switched from bottled water to filtered water last month to hopefully reduce environmental waste & be more resourceful, because I too drink a lot of water.  Picked up one of those water jugs with a built-in filter from Amazon.  Getting the bottled water was one of those habits I've been doing so long, that I wasn't considering it.  As far as things I'm working on, that's a long list.  I'm close to your age Brad @ 39 and still trying to improve on the important things in life in any way I can, like being good to family and appreciating little things.  Always lots of of improvement to be done, but I try to stay on the path.

I love Doctor Pepper! Sometimes I joke that it's "the only doctor I need," which would probably not go over well if an actual doctor heard that. Not well at all. But I don't really have it very often now. When I do get Doctor Pepper, I also get bottled water, because tap water is just gross. That doesn't mean I don't have to drink it sometimes, I have had to, and the tap water I just have to chug it down and not think about what all probable crap I'm putting into myself. Then again, what all kind of crap is already in my body to begin with? Hey, maybe the tap water is why I'm so crazy? That makes sense. But yeah, I get bottled water, and drink that mostly.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

Yeah, clean water is a bit of issue in rural parts of India. They use ground water, and that too without proper filtration. I would try to avoid drinking water in villages unless it's filtored, also, I don't mind tap water in Mumbai, but absolutely hate water from ground wel. That tastes very different.I do like tap water being cooled down in fridge. But, that's only when temperature outside is absolutely hot. Otherwise, I am fine with normal temperature water.I kind of expected that even Indians living in USA would have take outs and frosen food very common in their lifestyles. As both parents start to work to support a specific living standard, it becomes difficult to have Home-cooked meals. But, there are some exceptional people from across the world who do manage to do that. Even in India, the economy has forced parents to work more and earn more, therefore both parents work. In that case, how will they have home cooked meals. There are some families who have started selling food and say it's home cooked. But I am not sure if there are proper laws for that kind of business and if that food being sold is really what they say.

I read most of the stories in that folder, and it really got me through a dark place in my life. I read hundreds of them in a span of about three months. I read close to 10 million words. It was a difficult time, but that was one of the main things that help me through it. I’m really only writing this because I’m stoned out of my mind and the truth comes out way easier now, and I’ll probably regret this in the morning and delete it. Or maybe not. No no, Jimmy, you're not snobbish at all. Read in posh british accent. In all seriousness though, Spring water is actually pretty refreshing. We should really go to that spring up Maracus for our holiday, but meh. Also I'd like to add that when you toss pipe water into  a plastic bottle, it somehow tastes more rusty and its just not drinkable at all. Don't get me started on the bloody smell.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

I’m not a fan of tapwater at all myself. I drink the filtered water out of the fridge because it just taste superior. I don’t much like bottled water, because I feel like the plastic makes it kind of taste off, those still different from tapwater. I have drank from fresh Springs directly before and it is a fantastic experience. I’m sorry if this post sound snobbish

At Brad, I’m from the states as well. We have shit loads of options for literally everything. But yeah fruit juice has tons and tons and tons of sugar. At my school’s cafeteria, they sell Tropicana 16 ounce Bottles of juice. The Apple juice has 69 g of sugar. Seltzer is all right if you get the right flavor, but it is a bit of an acquired taste. I like making lemon water as well

I squeeze a bit of lemon juice into my water for flavor and also to help with my skin. Works a lot. If you build up a tolerance for sourness you can put a whole lot in there.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

@Nocturnous to further add to how water can taste differently depending, let's use my school for example. There's a long sink, with about 4 taps. Once I had to drink water from there, and for every sip i took I had to spit it back out. Now, ironically, just across from thaat same tap, a couple metres away, there was a new sink put in. It was plastic, as aposed to the suramic they used on the old taps. Eitherways, A friend of mine whose really picky and I had to drink from there, and Christ in heaven that was literally one of the best waters I've ever tasted. I'll even say it rivals water from the springs up in Maracus, which is the middle of nowhere. So yeah, it depends on a lot of factors. @Nocturnous, I like water cold as well, it has a much blander taste if its normal temp. And don't talk for when you leave it in a car for like an hour and come back. Its like drinking air. My mum also drinks roomtemp water.`

You have a point. Honestly I'm not even waterphobic, I understand its importance, it just tastes bland to me, at least the stuff I drink the most, which is bottled water. I know what you mean by waters tasting differently and I've had some very good water. You do bring up an important point about pollution and I'd wish we'd get it knocked into our thick skulls that maybe we should take a little more care of the environment than we do currently? But us common folk aren't really the ones in charge of whether that happens or not unfortunately.

No, I'm from the states.I agree fresh is always better but I do enjoy a variety of frozen foods, then again they're not quite tv dinners either. The microwave sucks, I rarely use the microwave for anything now. At most, just to heat up stuff that just needs to be warmed, that's it. Toaster ovens for the win.Yeah no, seltzer isn't really fruit juice. Then again there is a difference between natural sugars found in fruit and the stuff that permeates everything else. Sugar is in hot dogs for christ's sake

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

@NevEd I'm assuming you're not from the uk?Frozen burgers are ok if you want something just to eat for the sake of eating, but now I've tried the real thing, there's deffinetly a diffirence and I much prefer the non frozen kind.As for the chicken, it's again, ok, nothing special, if i'm going to eat, I want to enjoy what i'm eating, not just mindlessly eat something.Remember, if you come from the states, you guys and girls have tuns of options to choose from, I can't prove it but I bet you have quite a few burger patties to choose from, as far as I know we have 2, a thin burger and a slightly fatter one. I find both to be dry but if you add things to them like you said, they're ok to eat. Also keep in mind that we have similar stuff in our freezer every week.So there's not much of a change if any, that's probably why I find it boring.I'll eat it from now on, I'll have to if I don't want to spend all my cash and it's ok, but nothing beats fresh food.As for microwave meels, they can be ok, I once had paella like that and it was horrible but I guess you can get some ok meels here if you know where to look.as for sparcleing water, I've had a look and i don't think we have the brands you do in the states, in fact I know we don't as you mentioned cans and i know you can't get water from a can anywhere here.Ah, I was probably thinking of fruit juices when I said I don't buy it, as in I don't believe the clames that there's no sugar as even if it's just fruit juice, fruit does contain sugar.I'll stick to plain water.

@18 Listen here my man. Mmkay? Get yourself a case of blueberry lemon seltzer water, get a nice meal to go with it to ofsset the taste of non-sugary carbonated beverages, and wash that shit down with a can of the stuff. You'll get used to it. And its fcking good, because I said so, god damn it!To the poster above idk why people obsess over whether people make frozen food or not. There's differing degrees of quality I find. Sure I like making my own beef patties, they're fucking good and its really the best way to do a burger, but shit man, if you just bought a bag of frozen patties to throw on the charcoal grill a couple days later, they ain't bad, at all. Throw some cheese on it, some other toppings, I like bbq sauce, bacon, jalapenos, etc, onions are great, lettuce also. The shit is good, man! Same thing with breaded chicken. To any who dont know, a toaster oven is great, I love my toaster oven. Much quicker and easier than the big oven. I'm sure the fact that we have a gas oven also keeps me from using it that much, but seriously, get a decently sized toaster oven, make sure it has good ventelation so your food doesn't get steamy, and with breaded stuff, it crisps it up something lovely. Sometimes if I'm impatient I'll use the toast setting on chicken, or hot pockets, or tortillas, whatever.Edit: Honestly you know who really made me give Seltzer a fair shot? Rich of ReviewTechUSA. Him and intro guy down that shit like crazy on streams and I liked it a bit before but i still wasn't used to it. He made me do it. Its just so much more healthier than soda and I didn't even drink that much of it in the first place. My problem was that sweetened tea. Now I don't even drink that much anymore because its too damn sweet.

Seltzer  water is good, I’ll be it I’m not a huge fan of the super sparkly kinds. And  at Brad, it’s not an issue of buying it. It’s an issue of now you’re ignoring the truth. Because seltzer water actually really doesn’t have sugar. It has some natural flavoring, e.g. fruit extract, but no added sugar

It's ok, but she could pick up some cooking tips. The thing is; that's how she was taught to cook and to my nan and grandad and some of my family members,  food is just food, but to me there's a juge difference between home made and store bought.Oh and to the americans out there, you're probably not going to like this but the burgers my family buys are frozen and you just put them on the grill and that's it, oh there's chese on top but yeah, they're not fresh at all.Maybe I'm what some would call a snobby brit but I like good food and doubt that will change.Oh and to the person speaking about food tasting like it was dipped in shampoo, starburger was a place that opened up for a couple months here and their chicken tasted exactly like that.

@10 As long as its not sweetened, there's no sugar. None. Just a hint of natural flavor.Takes a while to get used to if you're used to sweetened drinks but I'm telling you once you're used to it, you can down them like its nothing.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

I live in the west, I'll be it with a large African and Indian population. But yeah, I feel like price is a big factor, although KFC here is a big thing, especially with Indian famlies ironically, but the other American Brands like Wendy's failed. And when I mean failed, the Wendy's that came to San Fernando where I live on what we call Library corner, because, its a corner with a library,  and Its a pretty central location. Back to the Wendy's, it lasted a month before the store closed down. At any given time you can waltz into a Burger King and expect to meet vertually zero line. McDonalds here is always the target of consperacy theories, like the most believed one  being that they put rubber in their fries. And speaking from experience, Wendy's at least, their nuggets tastes like they drenched it in shampoo. No kidding. Pizza hut is the dominant pizza place here, although they're pretty expensive. Even when you take into account conversion rates pizza here especially is more expensive than say in the states. A large pizza here is somewhere in the range of about 20 US dollars, or about 140 TTD, which, a decent amount of people work for after a 12 hour workday. So again, those stuff are more reserved for more middle and upper middle folks. But there is still a strong culture of cooking food at home, like even if a person doesn't cook, you can expect to go to someone's house on a sunday and get a hot plate of shepard pie, potato salad, and some red beanss and rice as well. Every sunday is a family eating day here. But with that being said, I feel like KFC has become a Trinidadian thing. When restaurants were allowed to reopen, I'm talking lines 6 blocks long, like WTF? You're so hungry for a box of curnel, as we call it? Also, if you want something hot here, you can either drop into a small cafe like thing, and get a hot plate of Saadaa roti with pumpkin or patato in it. Or, for the most patriotic of person, you can stop on the side of the road and get a couple doubles, which is pretty oily, but I can imagine it has less fats than KFC. i really feellike I should make a food topic. Whose in favour?

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

Okay just as a miner correction there Jaidon, firstly,  are actually a lot of people who cook from scratch in Britain. My mum never bought a premade yorkshire pudding in her life, and my dad regularly buys and prepares fresh vedge. I am however a slightly bad advert for this since I do use premade and occasionally frozen stuff myself fairly often, mostly out of convenience. However, even there there is a big difference  say from your generic frozen pizza, and some other things which are frozen. For example, last week I made a great big pot of chilly. Yes, I used sauce in a jar, but it was at least a good quality ja. I also used frozen shredded onion,  I am a lazy person, however I still wanted onions for the flavouring, as well as two tins of red kidney beans and a large quantity of minced beef. Was it a gourmet super awesome chilly? No, it was however a far cry from takeaway or just a generic frozen meal. At some point this week, we'll have chicken in crumb with fresh steamed vegetables and roast potatoes. Again, the vedge is pre-prepared, but it is fresh and not frozen, and whilst the roast potatoes are frozen, they're at  least ones that taste good.Even with ready meals and such, there is such a  variation in quality depending upon what you get and from where. I'm afraid with sugary drinks my general philosophy has always been "If i can get it without sugar, why would I bother having sugar?" Indeed these days, I find standard pepsy or iron brue rather too sweet and actually prefer the diet versions. We do have takeaway occasionally, but only as a treat once every few weeks.I also drink a great amount of what is called squash in Britain, this is like a concentrated fruit juice you add water too which again, I buy the low sugar version. this is good because essentially what your drinking is mostly water, then again, as my glaucoma tablets cause me to need to drink a lot, this is sort of a necessity. My two vices are coffee and chocolate, both of which I  I am happily addicted to, though  making proper coffee, and using high coco, low sugar chocolate I can usually avoid things being too extreme, I'm also careful with brushing my teeth as well for that reason. for exercise, I recommend zombies run.

@Jaidon and MyDearWatson, I completely agree with you.Frozen food is wierd, yes it has a longer shelf life but doesn't taste as good.Frozen roti, really? Sighted people are getting lazier man, yes people have jobs and the thing they say is, oh we don't have time to cook when we get home, well, stop having kids who take up that time when you can't take care of them, and if you do have kids, I think doctores or nutrisionests should be allowed in your house to see what food you're feeding them but nooo, we can't have that in my country.I don't understand why, it would make life so much less stressful.I'm deffinetly going to drink tuns more water than i do because it's a lot healthier for you than just sugar.Eastern families deffinetly have the right idea here.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

Yeah so the thing about McDonalds and other fast food is that it's just that, fast. The same can be said for frozen stuff, you just toss it in the microwave for 2 minutes and its done. When you're trying to get somewhere really fast, or when you have kids and you really don't want to cook, or when you're just lazy, it's a pretty cheap option to get really good-tasting but unhealthy food. Home-cooked meals are cool, but I don't even prefer them to fast food generally. Not to say that I don't eat home-cooked meals though, I'm not someone who eats fast food every day.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

We don't have eating out or even ordering food very common in our culture. People surely do it, but a large percentage of population eats home-cooked meals. You can read up on "Mumbai's Dabavala" on the internet and that should make it clear that how much we love home-cooked food.Mcdonalds, Dominos, KFC, StarBucks and lots of other stores are entering the market, but they can only cater to upper middle class of this society. Due to price factor and the fact that still huge part of society is below the income level to aford these things, these stores do have sort of attraction going for them in people's minds, and they might just try it out here and there. I know, in US, mcdonalds is affordable, but when you are talking about 10 rupee VadaPav or 40 rupee Burger, most of them will go with former one.Since lock down began, I haven't drank any other liquid other than water and daily tea. Brits might be big on Tea, but it's the national drink of India and is most common across all sections of society. I also occasionally drink milk with turmeric, as that's considered very healthy here. That doesn't mean I am big on organic or natural stuff, in college, we do have burgers, Peatsas, French Fries etc, and I do enjoy the taste, but that's there only when I don't carry my tiffin. If I don't eat my tiffin, I get in to lot of trouble at home. And nope, I am not talking about school life, it's proper college, I travel to college daily which is around 30 KM away from my home by train. Obviously everything is closed now for a while due to Corona.

Re: don't forget to drink more water than soda/sugary drinks.

Before I actually aknowledge what I say, I find you Americans and Brits so fucking wierd for buying all your food premade or frozen. Its starting to come dowwn here and I still scorn frozen roti, and its not just me. That's flat out disgusting. As for the sugary drinks, I just chugged down a whole botle of water even though its 29 outside. Pretty cool. Eitherways, it can be hard eating more heavy foods like rice and dhaal, because the water for some reason has my throat and chest feeling more choked then anything else, but its still something very important to consider. Especially if you live in warmer climates like where I do, where you'd be fucking lucky to get a day where the temperature isn't over 82 F.One thing I've gotta stop is my blasted laziness. I need to do more exercise. Even though my BMI is just below average, I still look a buit chubby. But then again, its just my built. But that's definately something I've gotta work on.
