Realtech soundcards not audo rooting to headphones. Hi allSo, I just got a new school computer, from the school, and it is a dell with a touch screen, it's one of those little nice 2-in-1 laptop tablet things.However, when i plug in my headphones, the sound stll goes threw the speakers. Bit drastic, but I just uninstalled the realtek driver and let windows install the high definition one on restart. Sounds fine to me, and no more pain in the arse software between me and my screen reader. Although your soundcard might start clicking if you don't touch your laptop for a few seconds but a tiny little programme can solve that. At first I wouldn't accept a laptop from school, I'd use mine, because who knows what limitations and tracking things they had set up on it before? Who knows how much they try to steal your details, and what you are doing on it... No, just no. I am not at all knowledgeable on what Realtech is up to these days, but you might be able to go into the Realtech control panel and disable jack detection. There are also registry tweaks you can make to disable jack detection, but I don't know a lot about that. And if this is a school computer you might not be able to access regedit. If you can though, there's a generic change you can make that just might help. Try looking for the key "forcedisablejd". Just go up to the very top level of the registry, press control F and type "forcedisablejd" in the find box, without the quotes, and after a few minutes it will hopefully find it. Press enter on this and type 1 and then enter again, and then restart the computer. The worst that will happen is that it won't make a difference, and I'm kinda thinking that it won't work, since I've had cases where it doesn't, but if you want to, give it a shot. If you can, try this:Go to Device ManagerNavigate to and expand Sound, video and game controllersNavigate and right-click (or Shift+F10) on Realtek Audio and select Update DriverSelect Browse my computer for driver softwareSelect Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computerArrow to High Definition Audio DeviceSelect Next (it'll give you a warning about incompatible hardware blah blah blah. Select yes to continue)Reboot and test it outIf you want to change it back, just do the same thing as above, but reverse the names.I imagine you'd need elevated privileges to do this. Sorry you have to deal with the subjugated nature of school equipment access.
