The options in the download map campaigns feature don't work anymore, because of the way dropbox has links set up, so the best way to get campaigns is to get them through agarchive. The game has not been updated to reflect this change.

Tactical battle questions

Hi. I was doing some updates to the db and have made some changes to the tactical battle entry, however a lot seems to have gone on since I last played and I have a few questions. firstly as regards maps.The only place I've seen maps for download is the audiogames archive, which seems a bit odd, yet their are some maps there not listed in the downloader of the game. Also there it states that the demon war map by victorious is a stand alone version of tactical battle, yet I see it in the games' own downloader to be downloaded, how does this work? Any information would be appreciated, indeed if there is some sort of main uptodate map repository, or if the downloader isn't quite as uptodate as it could be I'd appreciate knowing, both for the sake of the db and my own sensibility.

Im just going to post this here, because its really bugging me...no pun intended.Basically, I think there might be something wrong with the game when it comes to reading damage types, or at least when there are more than one specified. Im using an attack that utilizes a particular damage type on a unit that should be immune to it. The hp_protect for the damage type is being totally ignored though. It only happens with some of my damage types but yet others *seem* to be okay.Here is an example, using my king and one of his items and skills.The items attack damage: king_attack_hp_inflict_mod=115|blunt,200|deathWhen using king attack, the staff does 315 damage. This would be fine, but he has these...with the armor he has equipped: hp_protect=110|physical,120|slashing,120|piercing,120|blunt,100|fire,100|water,100|earth,100|air,100|ice,100|lightningAnd his natural resistance: hp_protect=150|physical,100|fire,100|water,100|

Are you using the latest development version? I remember reporting some weird bugs with health protect before, so im not sure if this may be one that was already caught or a new one. Did you also check your default unit flags file in case?

Still wondering about the above things, but also now this as well.I have a skill that was supposed to play a sound, shadowstep. But when I used the skill with my king, the shadowstep would play at the same time as the orc commander cursor.Then I removed the sound=shadowstep from my skill file and it still plays whenever any of my units use it. And nope, its not set to be played in their individual unit files. I double checked to make sure because I was sure I didnt set it to do that, and I didnt.Then I used an attack and the orc commander who I was targeting died. Twice. The move had critical_hit_effect death set, is that why? Since the damage was more than enough to kill it anyway because it was almost dead when I used that move?

EDIT:Kay, now Im only having an issue saving one map.I have my default map size set to 25 x 25. I made a test map that is 8 x 8, but when I try to save changes made to said test map it keeps giving me an error. I havent gotten it when saving my 25 x 25 maps. So am I just getting this because the map size is different?Also. Is there a way I can have a unit mount another unit and their skillsets to therefore combine while they are merged?So I can have my king mount his shadow dragon, but instead of just the shadow dragons moves showing up itll have the kings skills as well.Or would I have to play around with doing the transport thing and then somehow transforming them both when theyre together? ...I have no knowledge whatsoever when it comes to scripting hahaha.EDIT2:Still wondering about the above things, but now this as well.Got an error when trying to use this move.skill10<br /

That unit dying and getting attacked thing got fixed I think in version 2. Upgrading to version 10 of the parser is better because thats what new flags will be based off in the future (like script flags those are v10 only) I think, and it also makes it easier to read in some cases.

Any idea when it comes out of the beta version?Also, there is a bug in my version where if I have a unit that has the hp_restore_mod for healing skills, it also affects attacks for some reason so I do 100 damage then restore 70 hp to the target. Is that also fixed in the newer version?

It says that they can only move one square.And when a unit dies, sometimes the opponent will seemingly attack that same spot, and it says the unit died again. Its weird.

Hi.To update your map pack, do the following:1: Choose play campaign in the menu.2: Select your map pack and dont launch it, but press ctrl u and the game will try to update all the files.I hope that helps.

YOu have to be using the dev version of tb to upgrade you map pack though. Using th dev version is strongly advised beause theres a considerable amount different from the version you have. The latest stable version will be coming soon as version 2.0 so you may just want to wait for that instead.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but oh well. *shrug*I spent about four hours creating my own map pack...with units, skills, effects and everything. I probably shouldnt have done something this big because this was my first time coding something other than binary or HTML, but I was excited.Anyway, when I try and load or edit my map in the Tactical Battle game menu, it keeps giving me a bunch of errors.The error sheet Ive compiled is fairly long...should I post it here, or would someone please help me by examining my map pack to see where I went wrong?

Kay, I got most of the problems fixed.I cant seem to get my phoenix to flame around, though. It keeps saying there is a bug in the intelligence, you can only perform flame 0 spaces away.My code for that isskill2The phoenix teleports.empty_tilemove_selfeffects=phoenix_flameI have the feeling Im missing something very obvious here...

Hi.I just got some extra time today which I spent on my map. I have spent a lot of time on the following:Thought about the design and possibilities in the map, which should let people play the style they want, and it should give many cool ways of complete the game.Build up the basics in skills which should allow all those possibilitiesFinnished building the basics of the map, so building the rest should take no timeMessed around with skills, items, health and such to get a better understanding about how it works.Now to a question:Im trying to make a hand weapon, which fails epicly. What happens is: When testing the map, the speech says with 1 and a metallic coin sound is played. I cant press enter on the weapon to look up the information, and I cant use my take skill on it.I have not put any sound on the item, so I have no idea on where the sound is comming from, since there is not any items in the getti
 ng started map pack, which Im building my map out from.I have made an item slot called weapon to see if that solves my issue, but it makes no difference. I have followed the documentation, but I cant find anything which I have missed to make an item.Do you have any idea about whats going on, what Im doing wrong or missing?Now that Ive come so far in making all this, I wanna finnish this for sure.  I have all the ideas for a cool map, and I already know how to make nearly everything I want, so Im pretty much excited.

Hi SLJ,In the dev version, choose download map campaigns, then items and equipment example by Ian Reed.This has a single map that demonstrates items and equipment.You can copy the equipment and take, give, use, and drop item skills to get working examples.In the example map you can only take items if you are standing on top of them.You can press F4 when your cursor is on a tile with items and it will tell you which items are on the tile.When in the take, give, use, or drop item menus you can press F4 on an item to hear its description.The coin sound is built in and indicates that there are items on the tile.You could try beating the example map for a bit of fun and better understanding of how items work in play.Good luck!

Hi again.So now I know how the items works, how the inventory works, and the same goes for equip, drop, give and take. Now my test weapon also works, so Ive made a lot of improvements today. There are some newbie bugs which I have to get rid of, but Im too lasy to do that now.I look so much forward to continue the work on my map. I think Im very close to know all what I need to know to make what I have in mind.

Hi again.That worked great, and Ive made just some small but important progress on my map. I wanna change the health for some units, and create my own units with different health. Im practicing with the getting started maps. I cant find where I can change the health. Neither the points file or the damage folder have any number for how many points in health the units have. It must be somewhere, but its just me who cant find it. I begin to understand more and more on how it all works, and Im ecsited to continue working on my map. Dont expect much though. Hi,You should probably add at least two units on to the map. this is because the only victory conditions defined at first are defeating other units. There for, if you have no units on the map, youve automatically defeated everyone. This is why you need 2.First, enter the map editor by pressing control E.Secondly, add two units (it doesnt matter where, really).Thirdly, set one of the units teams to evil by pressing shift T on that unit. The parser versions were something I used while the way that I parsed files evolved.It allowed me to provide backwards compatibility.Most files are on parser version 10 now.Also note that if youre using the dev version the game will upgrade your map to parser version 10 when you save.And if youre not using the dev version then I recommend switching to it.Also there are a lot of experienced map creators who can give guidance on the mailing list.Unfortunately the map creators guide is out of date for the changes in the dev version.Most notably for the format of files, but looking at existing map packs can help you figure out the new format.I think the flags are still pretty well documented.Good luck!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177809#p177809
