Not necessarily the "I'm going to stop you!" approach, but at least for people old enough to understand it, the approach that suggests that it wouldn't be a good idea, and punishes the offender with the appropriate consequences. (How things are in the college world, for example, how people don't command you to do your work... but you do it because you realize if you don't, you're going to fail miserably. And then no degree. And then no dream job. And then no success! and all that...). It has to do with one of the flaws of governing by fear, actually. It's true that fear is a good motivator. Indeed, if you are made to be really afraid of doing something, chances are, at least for a short moment, you will hesitate to do the thing. Note that the effect is only short term, though. If the ones governing that way continue to do so, though, the result turns the fear into hatred. It turns the nice little lawful environment you've set up into a rebellious and chaotic system. The trouble is, some things have to be run like this. Not every person can be cleanly handled, and if we wish to keep order, some people really only respond properly to fear, but it would be good to find a method that doesn't end in a strong reaction against the governing system. While both extreme viewpoints have serious flaws, one positive aspect of being more conservative is that you don't just shoot your mouth off at every tiny little thing that dissatisfies you, which is what a lot of these people do nowadays. I do think that greater availability of technology plays a role in this, but it's not the whole story. It's just much easier to be impulsive when nobody's going to stop you, not only because they won't, but because they literally can't, and there are no social, familial, or any other consequences that are going to come of it. In fact, not having a filter seems to be praised, and that's something I truly don't understand. I realize that hoping for balance at this point is basically a wish in one hand, shit in the other and see which one fills up first scenario, but I guess one can dream. The fire and brimstone way of thinking, as we've constantly seen in the past, is more damaging than it is helpful; instills quite unnecessary fear, intolerance, and superstition. See this is why I think that these people need to do more acting and less complaining. We don't need to be teaching people that "oh no! The internet is sooo bad, like everything else that doesn't conform to our meet little padded box of hypocrisy!"Two driving forces behind a better world are open-mindedness to change, and proper morals. Fear and dislike of something that is not completely harmful have never solved anything. In fact, I'd say that mentality is the leading force behind most bigotry and war. Undoubtedly, this may have a clear impact on the developers' desire and motivation to develop more high-quality games, as these forums are the first (and perhaps only) reference for blind gamers. There seems to be a negative plague spread in these forums and must be eradicated so we return as we were and hopefully better. But unfortunately, If anyone post a game like that in the forum now, I can clearly guess what kind of negative comments he/she is going to get. There are rooms and individual topics that I avoid for this reason. So if you do that, you can still get the benefit this forum has to offer but sidestep all the drama and let the drama people engage in them.It only becomes a real stresser if you involve yourself. So extract yourself from the situation and move on.I got off of social media completely for this very reason. No longer even have a Facebook account or a Twitter account. And I'm so much happier nowadays.
