To be fair, I was 16, approaching the age of 17 when I started game development, but yes I agree. While I of course say don't take your job super seriously and have fun, if your going to be in the game development industry, at least show some respect to what your doing and take some responcibility. You can't exactly treat creating games as a toy. And for the record, reading this topic and seeing the immature posts makes me ashamed to be a game dev. So please, for the sake of the rest of the audio games forum close or delete this topic, it serves no other perpice but to clutter the new releases room with useless and unrequired insults.

A recent disision has been building on my mined for a while. While this doesn't mean the end of dm, it for now at least, does affect dmnb, and its a choice that i've thought about for a while, and in view of the fact i'm learning c++ now, i've decided that its time to lay this project to rest. I do want to continue on with the dm series and other projects, so understand that i'm not making this choice lightly. This is something that i've thought about and roled over in my head for quite a while now. While their are a number of reasons for this choice, I would like to elabborate that this doesn't mean that I won't ever look at an online space game like dmnb in the future, as I do think its a good idea still and that it has some potentual, but i'd like to focus on other installments in the series and do some much needed editing before I try this again.

First off I pulled down the server since it takes up time to maintain, and second off I couldn't release the source or a newer version for you to host your own servers on if I wanted too since I no longer have the source, either to the client or the server.

You've been out of the loop as far as things are on that front. Ethin has been gone from rs for quite a while now. And even if I wanted too, I couldn't put up either dmnb v1 or v2. I no longer have the source to both versions. And even if I could put up dmnb v1, its simpply not worth it. It, frankly was difficult to maintain at the best of times, and horificly frustrating at the worst, and it put intense cycologicle pressure on me. Though's who are really close to me and know me really well already know the several reasons why I layed dmnb to rest, and i'd rather not disclose them here. Its enough to say that while it might have made you happy for a few hours, it never would have made me happy, which as players in the games layder days could tell you, ment hardly any updates and lack of support. It was fun, and probably could have worked, given better circumstances, but in my book, its better left closed and its far too late to backtrack now.

So far i'm exparamenting with python as I ran into a bit of difficultys with c++, and figured I might as well see why python keeps getting braught up in developers room as an alternitive. I can say I do rather like the language and have ported my engine over to it. I've avoided mentioning this for 2 weaks, but this means cross platform support is a possibility. And seeing as i'm a former linux user myself i'm intrested in producing my titles for both the linux and windows platforms, if anyone else is intrested as well let me know.

Unfortunitly I do not have any current mac computer to even begin the process of converting my titles over, the closest thing i've got is an old ibook power pc and that struggles to run 10.5, nore do I have the money to order a mac.

I'd rather not go the way of emulating a mac for mac support. I've been down that road before and believe me its not fun at all. The reason I braught up buying a mac is I generally prefer to have direct access to what i'm doing, that way if a bug springs up I can ressel with it as long as I need to. The closest thing i've got to a mac is an old power pc g4 sitting on my desk here running 10.5, but I don't think i'll be doing any serious development using that.

So I downloaded this, and I gave it a try. I tried to be as open minded as possible, keeping in mined that this is a concept demo. Do keep in mined, I have not played scrolling battles pro, but played ultimit back when he was still working on it as mtg studios I believe it was.So understand that i'm going to try to be as balanced as I can.The short summery for though's who haven't picked the game up but have red the posts are the same as brad's.If you disregard the new changes of some new sounds, the changing of the level system and movement system, you couldn't really count this as a new game but as a remake of the original ultimit.Though I tried to approach this game with as much an open mined as I could and tried to find something to look for to like in it, frankly their's not that much to look at.I'll list the very few things I found to like.The way pits are handled, though their are way too menny in the fi
 rst level I enjoyed. I found that if you don't run and you just try to approach then jump over, you get fryed. If you take a running jump, you'll be able to make it over.If these wernt bunched so close together and not used so frequently throughout the layder half of the only level in the demo, these actually might provide some fun little level traps and could be used for storyline elements.Enemy movements. I rather like the initial concept of the enemies being able to jump, the problem though is them jumping over and into pits is that its nothing new. This was if i'm not mistaken in scrolling battles already. I found it rather annoying when enemies repeatedly jumpt up and down in front of you. This didn't add difficulty, it only made it frustrating because you can't jump up to hit them, nore do they even so much as move when you land.The number of enemies also makes it rather annoying if your working from a story concept. If this were a re
 gular beatemup stile game the number of enemies would be fine, but part of blending storyline and gameplay together is making sure nothing gets too repettitive or overly done in the story.I bring this specific point up because if given a bit more time before enemies start popping out, in specific sections, you could really use the jumping over tiles system to increase the game difficulty instead of being frustrating.Say for exampple, your inside a building, and their's a trap in the middle of the room. The fighting could then be increased in difficulty because not only do you need to avoid the trap, you also need to keep track of the enemies jumping around and moving. I realize that's a bad exampple and maybe someone can explain it better than me.I've held off on reviewing the story given that this is a concept demo, but I will say one thing. Do keep in mined I enjoy writing and would do it a lot more if I could think of any ideas, so this is my pers

I've used tts in my more recent projects with cutseens to grate effect.The problem is how the story opens and how it is advertized in the readme.I've listened to the only cutseen their was, and i'm rather curious. Why did the main character abruptly after finishing the news suddenly decide that he'd go outside and confront some random building, besides the reward of 50 dollars. Why did he not show any reaction to seeing a few guys popping up and attempting to shoot him directly in the face? And what besides again, the reward, made him continue on after dealing with said guys? Is he just that greedy for money? Is he curious? Their's a buntch of questions.This point here is also a personal opinion, but i'm rather curious why, if said building
  needed to be hidden a way, their was A no enemies garding the door, B why it was left unlocked, and C why the guards were spred out so thin and protection wasn't in itself at the actual entrance.If this bit was explained and the building was that top secret, then it might be sort of understandable placing enemies where they are now and placing enemies at the entrance as well.The reason I bring up this point about the story is its importent to note these when your doing storyline, speshily if like the readme says, you say it'll bring people hours of entertainment. I've red most of the topic here, and this is what i've got to say on the matter. First off, i'm absolutely disgusted at the way my name was abruptly braught into this, and how it had to keep dragging on for a few posts. Mason learning python is not my beaf, please don't drag me into it. If i've got a problem i'm perfectly capable of standing up for myself about it. Onto the hole game developer respect thing. Someone, can't remember who it was mentioned a while ago on this forum in 2005 or 2006 I believe it was that respect is earned, not handed out. And that saying applys to game developers as well. We're normal people, just like the rest of you. We all have our own opinions, our own lives, what have you. Just because we developed a game doesn't make us speshel, at least in my book. This goes exactly the same for the mainstreem community, be you big corporation or small team. Fact of the matter is, if you treat someone bad, they have ab
 solutely the same right to throw it right back at you, game dev or not. And again, this is precycely why I tell people on other games I go on to treat me as a normal person. Have I had friends or people on other games tell me something of mine wasn't good? Of course. I've had it happen to me on swamp. Did it affect me, maybe a little. But i'm still grateful to whoever said that comment because at least they were honest and open about it, and it was my choice to  go on swamp when I very well knew their could be bad comments. @crashmaster Its one of though's games that takes a bit of time to get used too. I personally think the game is a grate concept, and its fun when its not lagging. Standing right in the middle of the map is fun, the only thing which really annoys me is the way the thirst system works. Wich I understand is reelistic, but you get thirsty a bit too fast, is their any chance this could be readjusted? Other than that, its an awsome concept, even if surviving the wild isn't really my thing its still adicting and fun.

A while back, I had got fed up of vipmud's demo limitations, and I didn't have the 30 bucks to spend on it. So I sat down and rote my own mud client. Today I decided to go back and rewrite it, updating it with newer libs and a cleaner interface. Note, this is lightweight as in its extremely portible, so you could carry it around on an externnul hard drive and not need to install it. At present, their is no soundpacks support since i'm releasing it to see what people think. I've tested it with mainly miriani, but any mud should work. This will work with the same screen readers that dmnb did, nvda, possibly jaws, and super nova. If anyone gets any use out of this and want's me to continue adding features, please let me know. @ethin You've made your point in your first post, please stop constantly bringing it up. As I said in the first post, this was not a mud client made to rival mush client, I have no wish to compete with others on game development. This was mainly ritten because I got so fed up with vipmud's demo limitations. And, no, soundpack support will be very easy to implement. It will be basic for now, but assuming I can at least get it to play sounds, and have the option to gag text, then things will work.

Something which might work, the jfwapi.dll file, which you put in the client's main directory. Jaws should work fine after that. Come to think of it that will also get jaws to work with dmnb.

Hi all, a little late, but a new version of reality mud client is now out, with saving and opening of worlds as requested. In order to create a world, select create world from the file menu, and to load one, select load world from the menu. I've also fixt a glitch where enter wasn't sending events all the time like it should have been. Note, soundpack support currently doesn't work, I was having grate difficulty with it, but I plan to rejigger it. Sigh. Their's nothing rong with using autoit to create games, so long as said game works for the user, so why are we even having this discussion... again? Personally I think its a good attempt for sb soft, after all, they are not! required to make games, yet they have come out with this for us. I haven't checked it out, but I intend too once I get more time. It sounds like a nice project though. And the O S, can't wait to see what that's like, and hope progress goes well on it.

Speaking from a normal users point of view, all this immaturish trolling and flaiming seriously makes me consider wanting to leave the forum. I know the rest of the community isn't like this, and I happen to know steve, he's actually quite a grate guy. A we bit annoying at times, but ay, we all have our character falts, don't we? Now, please, can something please be done about this foolishness? I checked out the stress breaker game mentioned in this topic, and it is a nice little program for relieving stress, if you like guns etc. I have a suggestion though, would it be possible for you to implement something to skip the intro?

@majoz, donations won't be enough to run the server in future. Even with everyone putting in 20 or 10 dollars. @ethin As we discussed over skype, the game isn't worth 120 dollars. My personal pricing plan would be like this. 20 dollars yearly, not monthly. I put hard work into this game. Not everything should be handed out free, I do have a right to sell my project in the future and get reward for my hard work, do I not? I'm not neerly ready to make this game go shareware at the current time.

Mayby camlorn can explain this better than me, but donations will not offset the cost of the server. What happens when people don't pay. No server. In order to have a game like this, I can't keep developing out of my own pocket. Eventually, weather you like it or not, we will have to go shareware. If you can't use paypal? Come and talk to me, i'll see about something. Remember I am not ritch myself. I know what its like wanting the things you want, and I know some parents are unable or are just not willing to pay the costs, and if your situation is that desporit, then you can come and talk to me about it. Guys, let me explain first of all why donations won't do the trick. Lets say we require people to donate, like ultra power does. That's not donating, that is, in all respects, a monthly subscription. To though's people asking dmnb for free. I'd like to ask you the following. Were you the one who stayed up all night, putting up with the constant cheating and having to ban people 6 times. Greetings all. We are proud to announce this new version of death match: a new beginning which includes the following new features. Fixt bug with status buffer crashing the game. Added in the emote feature. For though's who haven't played muds, this basicly allows you to emote any action. For exampple. Say you want to let people know you are checking some contract, but their's nothing in the game which will let you do that. Use the emote feature to emote that very thing. We have finily added the ability to toggle the chat channel. Hit o to go into the options menu and turn it on. Hi all, coming soon in the next update, a brand new engineering interface. This console allows you to enable and disable the ships A P U, which is the ships generator. If it is damaged in combat and fails, all consoles, accept for the engineering console go strate offline and refuse to work as their's no generator to run them, and all turbocar's will stop functioning as they are linked directly up with said generator. The ambience in all the ship will also stop. Thus, once the new update comes, and your in battle, it is importent to repair your ships A P U. The doors arn't effected currently as i'm still deciding weather they should be linked up with the generator or not. Also, another thing, damage control has been added to the engineering menu in the new update. I'm still coding and deciding the specifics, but this will manage various components of your ship, such as helm, sensors, etc, and will also allow you to do hull repairs in space, assuming that I

Hi all, during the next weak and possibly the next weak and a half, I won't have access to the computer while I move out of my current place. This means I won't have access to the game. However, the main admins will still be in control, and if you do mis behave, they reserve to right to punish if they see fit, other than that, enjoy the game and i'll see you all once the move is complete. Oh, and, look forward to next update as we're working on a ground combat system. Currently only punching works.

The servers are back up, my apoligies. As soon as I can find a way to develop a proper shell script which will start the server if its not running I will. The critical difference, asides from the fact that this is an audio game, not a mud codebase, is that a game like this is resource intensive, the more areas you add to it the more power it requires. This game isn't even remotely near a mud, its developed using its own code in pure basic, and only the client can interface with it, not a mud client. In fact, as such, even if it could interface with a mud client you wouldn't be able to do worth squot with it. It is an all respects, an audio game, not an audio mud, though it has the feel of a mud. I consider it to be basicly the next step from a mud, much like swomp.

If your ship is destroyed and you are offline, the next time you connect, the game will recreate your player instead of leaving you stranded onboard a dead ship. No point in replying to him guitarman, his second chance didn't last long. To explain to the rest, I was all prepared to give vlad the benifit of the dout, after all, it was christmas, and we had a very hectick opening which resulted in a lot of headakes, so we let him back on last night. With, of course the acception that if an admin was not on, that if no admins were on, he would be transported strate to jail so he could not annoy the other players and shoot at the various ships, as was done the last time I left him alone on the game with no admin. This was all fine and dandy, and last night proceeded to plan. This morning however, after we had repeatedly asked him to stop asking countless questions, even had valentin go through the trouble of acting as translator and translating it into his language for him, vlad continued to keep it up, going so far as to ask how do I get ship into space, where upon we had had enough. After which when we told him that joke wasn't fun
 ny, he proceeded to laugh, and so I had had enough and he was band. Speaking of which. Its clear that here at dmnb, we are under staffed, and i'm starting to think we might be really scareing off a bit of our playerbase when people come on and ask countless questions. I've decided therefore that we do need a group of people who are willing to stay on the game and answer questions as they come in, as I simpply do not have the payshants to constantly keep repeating myself, and the other admins are beginning to lose their tempers over having to do this as well. If anyone is intrested, please let us know, we'd really like the help. Also, please don't consistantly repeat your questions over chat. We have other things to do, and we do not like being nagd constantly about problems we are already aware of, telling us once or twice just in case we mist it is fine, but please do not keep repeating yourself over chat.

Greetings all, this change is rather importent, so listen up. We've implemented a builder system for admins, but wait, listen first. If implemented correctly, this system can be used to craft your very own starships. With in conjunction with the inventory system, it might be possible if we put resources on various planets around the game to do such a system, and not only for starships, but for medkits as well, assuming we can figure out how to set this system up properly. And, i'll be working on bounty hunter missions as soon as my ship touches down, currently its taking for ever to decelerate from its cruising speed. I'd just like to ask if this sounds good for a bounty missions system. When you select bounty missions from the galactic network menu, you select a ship that you are an owner on. The ship is assigned a specified target that is in deep space, but doesn't tell you the exact coordinates. Once you find it, you shoot it down and whoever's on the s
 hip gains the credits. What do you guys think.

Greetings all, we'd also like to inform you we've added a few new things to starship damage server side. As well as your ships apu unit, your ships engines, autopilot, and fusion drive also have the possibility to get hit. If autopilot is hit, you will be stuck on you and your expert navigating at manual pilot until autopilot can be repaired. It will be rendered non functional and you will not be able to toggle it on or off, and it will be locked off until it is repaired. The ships fusion drive, if damaged, will disable your ability to jump out of a battle. You will still be able to input coordinates, but your jump ability will be disabled. Finily, if your engines are damaged and disabled, the helms speed control will not respond, and the ship will be forced to a dead stop. I've also corrected the bug reported which would let you order a ship and not have a retracted amount of credits, so no more getting away with free ships, muhahahahahahahahaha.

And finily for server wide changes, thanks to a suggestion from darth scorp, teleporters now need to be charged before use. They will take 1 use before requiring another charge. This system is a little new, but keep in mined to suggest fixes to the teleporter charge as they come in.

Ethin, i'm gonna need to agree, even I can't understand the constatution. As for bounty missions, you guys sorly misunderstood what I was meaning by that. You select the bounty missions menu item. Then you select a ship. You get a random enemy, and your reward for killing it in deep space is baste on your hull and ships configuration, so his hull and ship configuration will attempt to match yours. For this I suggest bringing in a crew. One helmsmen, one engineer, and a few turret operators. Does it make sence now?

Greetings all. In lite of the recent hack attack, if you even call it a hack attack, come on whoever did it that wasn't even an attack, I am forced to push this new update out prematurely. I wasn't on at the time this guy came on, but apparently last night, after I had gone to bed, he loged onto unstoppable's character, and proceeded to ban everyone that was on left and right. The only way to stop the server was for josh to bring it down.

That, is enough. We figured out who the hacker is, seeing as he apparently might have loged into nikita's char. I have gathered that it was a well known player who was well known for shooting at ships, and whom I band because of a quite mild insult when I tried to get him to follow the policies, though's on dmnb should know who i'm talking about it. @cruiserdestroyer, if this is the guy you warned us about 4 days in advance, thank you very much.

Alright to answer your questions. The hacker was not vlad, but we've decided to drop the investigation unless someone comes forward with any new information. Ethin's admin rights have been revoked on dmnb for the last few posts he's made, and they will be restored once he makes a few aditude adjustments on here. I'm really sorry about this guys.

@techmaster20 Of course, I could always use inspiration for new ideas at sometime or another. I do think you can change and learn your lessons. @ethin You are very, very, very near the cliff and close to falling from it. You only helpt with a fraction of code. I was the one who stayed up all night laboring most at the server code carefully balancing between code. Reality software was not around in 2012, and steven's been around just after I developed the 2d version of the dm game. Second, you did help a lot with the website, but i'm always the one to write it. I'm always the one who puts the information together and very carefully might I add. And look what happens. None of the stuff you've hosted for me has stayed up longer than 3 months. The website might have been 4, but in the end that was destroyed. You've consistantly refused to even stay on dmnb to assist with administration dudies despite our cries for help. So i'm afrade, that i'm gonna 
 need to agree with severe storm steve here. Your falling closer and closer to the edge and your about to make that final leep off the cliff you are sooo worryed about jumping off of.

@camlorn Thanks for the compliments, I do try to stay as com as I can with these sorts of situations. @ethin [[wow]], dude, and this is why, I kicked you out of reality software. This is why no one want's you back in reality software. I leave for 3 days do to getting a new place and come back to this? Anyways, to answer your question severe storm steve, you can do bounty missions with any ship which has weapons. I'd personally suggest them with a battlecruiser or hire, I intend to try and get through one with a dwarf corvette layter.

I'm going to give my 2 sence on the matter and please listen, this won't be flaming one bit.I had loged into ultra power to have a good time, mayby kill a few people. Mason and I were having a good chat and talking. However, one thing which grately annoyed me was being oneshot all the way from where I was, which annoyed the crap out of me.Another thing. I was simpply standing their at the sz, chatting, when all of a sudden, I got disconnected from the server for no apparent reason. When I attempted to reconnect, I got disconnected again, before I even had time to read the chat messages or ask why I was disconnected. Apparently devin was the one doing this, fortunitly this was delt with. I do think ultra power is a good game, and if fixt up a little, could be a blast to play however, their are somethings which need to desporitly be balanced out, not letting admins level out to that extremely high level being one of them. More over, when I come on to play, I do
 n't want to constantly get oneshot all the time. It makes it completely unfair and I was unable to even get in any kills.

That's the problem ethin, some of us don't have good hereing. Their's no targetting beeps in up, no system of any kind, you can't see when a target is in front of you unless they magicly move, and the second you fire a shot it blows the hole gig up. However, you keep oneshotting me from where I am, and I can't even get in any kills because with me, it takes 50 or so hits to kill you, with you it takes just 1 shot and i'm dead, which isn't fair to the players.

Note to self, never, ever, ever specify the rong directory for entering names, it apparently caused a massive loop which knocked my internet and the server offline. Also, i'm implementing an in game help system accessed with f2, like the help system seen in most muds. You choose a help topic and it reads it.

I don't mined getting oneshot killed, its a thing in most fps's, but the problem is, ethin has his level and health jacked up and mason won't let him adjust my level to his, which makes him impossible to kill because he oneshots you every time, and it takes 50 shots for you to finish him off, which, in my opinion, is completely unfair.

Greetings all, a very, very, very major change is coming into place. Starship fuel. That's right, you herd me correct, starship fuel. Deep space will now have various fueling outposts scattered around it for refueling, and they will also act as shipyards. The next update should be released soon, but if you notice your starship powering down, take it as a sign your fuel as run out, you can check its percentage with the fuel status readout in your status console. Note though that while your starship is powered, since the fuel is dark matter in the dm universe, the apu is the fuel eater, not the engines and hents, if its left running unattended in dock, you will lose fuel.

Hi all, it is my grate plesure to announce the new update for dmnb has arrived! Please read the change log, but here's just a brief summery of what's new. Brand new, in game help system accessed with f2. If a help file gets added, you don't even need an update. New galactic in character news system, accessed by pressing n. Brand new missile system. Note, missiles will only be on select ships as i'm still deciding what ship classes i'm wanting them on, any suggestions here would be awsome, but if you want feel free to request a warhead launcher and i'll stock your ship up with missiles. Removed the trade commodoties option from the global galactic network market menu, and replaced it with 2 new options, reload ship's warheads and request refuel of ship. Note! You must be docked at a shipyard in order for these last 2 functions to work, or else they won't, obviously. If your fuel runs dry, the apu system will flatline leaving you adrift in deep space if you are in it, so I suggest checking the near by sensors for fueling outposts which also act as shipyards, do note we will try our best to populate deep space with these new outposts as we can. Speaking of which. If anyone is intrested, i'm gonna try to do a few bounty missions layter once I get up, if you all wanna join the crew and gain a few credits, pluss fight off a few of the enemies in an rp event, that would be awsome as their's a credit reward in with it as well. What I do is with nvda's instant translate addon, I go directly to the message in the status buffer and hit f12 to copy. Then I paste it into notepad and go to my ship, easy solution.

To put simpply, no. It is a prequel to death match project alpha, but a lot more than that. It is a roleplaying science fiction online space game, its rather difficult to explain the concept, but you can pilot starships, explore planets, a hole lot of things actually. And for project alpha. Project alpha will not work with jaws.

Hi, if your character was one of the ones who had neggitive health, your character will have died do to punching and death being implemented fully.

Additionally, i'm very pleased to announce that we have begun testing of our brand new ground vehicle system. This system currently is the most basic we will get, but you already have the ability to steer with the aeros, and power on the vehicles engines.

Just saw tyler's previous posts. Most of though's names wern't even called by admins as mel was removed from adminship several weaks if not days ago. Also? I did not cheat and break the rules of my own game. The attack was in deep space, and bakuan5 is located in deep space. Pluss, the policies say if you are authorized. That includes hosts, thank you and this will be the sure end of the matter.

Their's currently not much as we rely heavily on roleplay for you guys to bring the planets to life, but it is possible to do a planet exploration system, and anton and I were in fact discussing this. Their are however, minerals you can find on various planets.

You can land a mining freighter on the surfaces of planets, but honestly if you want my opinion, go with a light freighter and forget about the mining one. The light one costs more, but it has asteroid mining, and it has a speed of 1000, just enough to get you to the most distant of asteroids. PLuss its less noisy.

Guess what tyler. If you had just commd down, stopt complainint, none of this would have happened. I do think the trolling did get out of hands. I was not the one however throwing the more extreme insults. Also tyler, we will not regret what we did banning you, because you deserved it. You are obviously not a valuable player if you go around complaining about how my server doesn't do this that, nore how it doesn't make your own lunch for you, etc etc. Remember that thing I said about suggestions? Picture this. Severe storm steve has his own game company. You throw 1000 feature requests at him like you did me. I promiss you he will react in the same way eventually. Also, your right games do change, and dmnb has changed over the months, but they do not change by what features you implement per day. So yeah, thanks for actually showing us what not to do.
