Suggest you try to see if the audio signal is fine. Try outputting to a DAC if you have one. Or try Balanced output Vs RCA or vice versa. From the website: Transporter: Balanced Analog Outputs * Connectors: XLR gold-plated * Level: 3Vrms (8.5Vpp) * Impedance: 100 Ohms * Attenuation: Fixed -0dB Unbalanced Analog Outputs * Connectors: RCA gold-plated * Level: 2Vrms (5.7Vpp) * Impedance 100 Ohm (at -0dB) * Attenuation: Selectable -0, -10, -20, -30dB SB3: Analog RCA outputs * High fidelity Burr-Brown™ 24-bit DAC * Two dedicated linear power regulators for DAC and line-out stages * Full 6.0Vpp line-level signals * Signal-to-noise ratio: over 100dB * Total harmonic distortion (THD+N): less than -93.5dB (0.002%) So, if you're using unbalanced out on the Transporter, then it is slightly quieter than the SB3 (5.7Vpp vs. 6.0Vpp). Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Help - distorted sounds!
Hi Agentsmith, I am using balanced ... it's the only option as the unbalanced is completely horrible. I mean you can barely hear the music through the all the static. The Balanced is much better, but produces distortion when the TP is set to 0db that is particularly noticeable with certain music, especially solo piano. As to trying a previous version of SC ... shouldn't it work properly with the current version like, I presume, everyone else's TP? What could be in the current version that breaks (at least one) TP? I'm currently communicating with the seller to do an exchange under warrantee, and I'll have to wear the freight. The frustration is not so much about the extra expense, but rather about the weeks and weeks I'm going to be without music. And I still haven't heard what everyone claims about the quality of the sound that the TP produces.
