[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Mission dac5?
I have been given a Mission dac5 converter but can find out nothing about it. Does anybody know of this piece of kit and is it any good? Would it improve the sound of my Sb3? It needs a new optical input connector so I can't test it and I want to know if its worth fixing. Advice would be welcome. -- broadside broadside's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9808 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66593 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Ref: What Should I Buy ?
Hi there people... I have what I think is a great hi-fi system and I have spent alot of money over the years investing it in... I have a ROTEL RA-03 PreAmp + RB-08 Booster Amp, RCD-02 CD Player + RT-06 DAB Tuner plus a Pro-Ject Debut SE II Turntable with Bowers Wilkins 603 Floor Speakers (150W per channel and Bi-Wired). I love my system by increasingly I now listen to my music on my computer (I'm a graphic designer) through my Harman+Kardon Soundsticks from iTunes downloads and I have to burn blank CD's to listen to my music on my main system which means blank CDRs with black marker titles are strewn all over my living room. I want a system that will integrate with my current system but deliver the superior quality sound I have grown used to. I tried the Apple Airport Express and the resulting quality even after investing in top quality cabling was very inferior could SqueezeBox Duet or Transporter be the answer that I'm looking for. Please feel free to message me back with all your comments and suggestions. Yours sincerely, Anthony MacCarthy MusicAddict and MacAddict -- CreativeAnto CreativeAnto's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32187 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66594 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Ref: What Should I Buy ?
I love my Transporter and consider it one of the best components in my system. Having all of my music at the tip of my fingers (via Iphone ipeng)has been the single most useful thing I have ever done with the system. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Ref: What Should I Buy ?
If you don't mind using your PC as a server you will be just fine with a wireless router (or lan cable) and a squeezebox classic or duet. I had this setup for over a year together with a rotel ra-06 an rcd-06. Sound quality of the SB classic is slight below the rcd-06 but very good. If you want something more, like me today, you could buy the transporter. The improvement in sound was very impressive with the above mentioned setup and will be more if you buy even better equipment in the future (I am going to buy a Yamaha A-S2000 or something similar the next days). You can control the music playing on your stereo with the remote control or with the web interface on your computer. -- Aurumer Aurumer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31601 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66594 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I purchased Apple Airport Express a few months back to stream my iTunes library of music to my Rotel Hi-Fi and it never worked successfully. Could I have similar issues with Duet..?? Or is Transporter really the only real viable solution ? Thanks again for all your advice great to hear from fellow Rotel users I love my system... but really do want to have the choice of either listening to a new album on single CD or flicking through my library at the touch of a button. Is that the one with a weird form factor - a narrow box about 3 inches wide and 5 inches high? If it is, then a friend of mine had one of those ages ago - the design must be at least 10 years old, and it wasn't particularly high end at the time. So my guess would be that it'll be no better than the SB3's DAC. -- cliveb Transporter - ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66593 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Anthony Hello Anthony and welcome to the Forum. If you have the money, I would say go for the Transporter. It is top shelf equipment. As for WiFi issues, 90 percent of the time reception issues are caused by poor choice of access point location. The access point location needs to be what is best for providing the best overall coverage and not what is easiest or closest to the PC/Cable Modem/Router for setting up the WAP. And yes part of the idea behind WiFi is to remove the issues of running CAT5 to hard to reach places. But if the WAP isn't setup correctly or optimized, then one ends up back where one started in needing to run CAT5! I feel it makes more sense spending the time (and some times money) to make one CAT5 or Internet Cable run to the optimum place for ones WAP so that no other work needs done and no other cables need to be pulled because the WiFi was done correctly the first time. Last but not least, if you enjoy music as much as I do, it could be well worth the trouble it would take to run CAT5 from the server to a Transporter. Another solution could be to build and place a server right where the Transporter will be located. Bet there is an old unused PC or Mac that could be pressed into service. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: SB3, GFR-700HD, Thiel 2.3, Second Boom Home Office: SB3, NAD C370, two VSM-1 Home Gym: SB3, Parasound Vamp v.3, Thiel PowerPoint 1.2 House Portable: SB3, Audioengine A5 Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB3, ToughBook iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66594 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Yes - that just about describes it. I thought it looked pretty ancient. I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Ref: What Should I Buy ?
If you're going for the cheaper option then the SB3 or Classic sounds much better to my ears than the Duet. I'd go for a Classic and one of the fancy new remotes (which are great). -- broadside broadside's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9808 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66594 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Ref: What Should I Buy ?
I want a system that will integrate with my current system I run a couple of Rotel RB-06 power amps with BW CM2 speakers, vertically bi-amped. You need a Transporter to get match these components, Apple Airport Express is toy-town stuff in comparison.
