There seem to be a bunch of errors in server.log which unfort make no sense to me at all. Any ideas? I am running SBS 7.5.1 on Win7. Oddly no new files seem to be being created in C:\Users\All Users\InguzEQ\Temp. Yes - the error messages in server.log are a red herring. (there's even a highly modded SqueezeBox PLUS!); now after all I am in the Audiophile section of the forum here so I ask... is there any real benefit at all in modifying an SB especially if you are using an external DAC? There's not much you can do within that budget, certainly not in the Audiophiles forum. One option would be to forget about the T-amp for now, and instead combine those funds with the speaker budget to buy a pair of self-powered speakers such as the Audioengine 2 (A2, see http://www.audioengine.org.uk/). That probably is a diversion from your upgrade path to a surround system, but it may be the best fidelity you'll find for your budget. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84941 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Non wireless use of SB
Hi to one and all, I purchased a SB (Duet) a couple of years ago and it's now sitting in the box as I wasn't happy with the sound. I used the coaxial in the SB to pump a signal to an external DAC (Beresford), thence to pre amp (audio synthesis) amp (audio note) and speakers (audio note). Of late I've been using a hi-face usb to coaxial thingy to take a signal direct from my mac to the DAC, and not using the SB at all. But this means I have to have my mac sitting next to the DAC etc Well I now miss the convenience of the SB and wondered if anyone has any solutions for me so that I can pump my files in to the SB non-wirelessly without having to have the physical connection of my mac hooked up to the SB via my hi-face coaxial. I think, at least partially, the sound quality issues were to do with the use of a wireless interface, which I'm keen to avoid. Is there some additional piece of kit, like a storage devise of some sort, that I could get to solve this issue that would pump a signal direct to the SB? Thanks for any advice. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Non wireless use of SB
Thanks guys. I take your point on wifi not being different to wired, but the sound at least appears different in blind tests of me and subjects. I do however think that the weak link in my system is my DAC, which is no fault of the DAC as it's proportionally cheap vis a vis the other components. Ethernet is an option, but I'd still need to have a source, which is currently my mac which is therefore on pretty much constantly. Is there a storage device out there that could hold the audio files and pump this to the SB, sensa mac? There are various NAS (network attached storage) devices that can run SBS. Check in the 3rd Party Hardware forum. Or you could look at a low-cost, low-energy server, such as a SheevaPlug or a small dedicated server. Either would be more likely to give you more oomph for your buck than a NAS. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84960 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
