Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Anyway for Transporter to support 24/192?
Well it still a very classy and classic product :) if I had use for high quality analogue outs or it's clock in features I would sure get one. Well engineered and a solid design. Dead or not digital audio have not changed much since 2006 either it's age shows when it comes to apps and services when more support from a sbs server is needed and some more formats that needs transcoding . But the intended user have his flac or wav files, so it's still good for it's main purpose. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Price of a 2nd-hand Transporter ?
I'd appreciate some advice on what is the going rate for second-hand Transporters. (I ask, because I have no real idea of what would be a reasonable figure. I see that there is one for sale at the moment on the well-known auction website, here in the UK; right now, the bidding is currently at what seems to me a pretty low level.) Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Garage Conversion - Sound advice ?
It's now 15ft 2 x 7ft 9 width. We will probably be sitting at the far end opposite where the speakers will be mounted on the stud wall in front of the window. In between us and the speakers will be the dining table (if my wife gets her own way). With the appropriate cover on. The back boxes have been fitted today with the green glue and 2nd level of plasterboard. Plastering on Tuesday. I'll post more pics later. -- tank121 tank121's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17169 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85319 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0
@PasTim Since I run my new network setup I don't face any hickups on a server-side 100MBIT/s speed. I'm running a Linux server. I tested it with and without tweaked TCP/IP parameters. I never tested it on XP. Just W7. Setting the interface to 100MBIT/s doesn't mean that you turn off auto negotiation. You can try autoneg on/off by setting another parameter. You can also leave it if it doesn't work. You can also dig deeper into TCP Optimizer. As I wrote on the blog. Not much is written about network optimzations on streaming networks. The online gamers do have some interesting stuff about it online. -- soundcheck ::: ' Touch Toolbox 2.0 and more' (http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com) ::: by soundcheck soundcheck's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34383 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I dont have any good idea so I'm guessing ~800£?? Not much is written about network optimzations on streaming networks. The online gamers do have some interesting stuff about it online. It seems I'm not explaining myself well enough. On my system, with my NIC, and XP, setting the interface to 100Mbps FD as suggested is the wrong thing to do. On my XP/Nvidia system this definitely turns off Autonegotiation. This caused me tens of hours of time investigating what was wrong. It's not your fault I followed your suggestion, and you were not the only one to propose that option (I had come across it some time previously). No one can know everything about every bit of kit. It is also not impossible that using different switches in the network could change the behaviour. I would be very interested to know what your system does without Autoneg when the Touch is directly connected to your server. I have taken some illustrations of the change in network traffic behaviour. The first is at 100 Mbps FD, the second is with Autoneg for 100FD. Same track, PCM 24/96. You can see, and hear, the difference. I do think you should warn people in your TT 2.0 instructions that this MIGHT cause rebuffering problems for them, as it did for me. It is a simple change for people to make, and could (not will, but could) save them hours of time. +---+ |Filename: network traffic autoneg 2.JPG| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11912| +---+ -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Yep, if two people really want one it could high. The standard advice should be to set your NIC to PLAIN autonegotiate (this will be the default setting - leave it alone!). Do not try and force it to any other setting. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Psychoaccoustic models: ref's?
Heya, was wondering whether you could help me with some references to some good literature on psychoacoustic models - if that's correct terminology? I'm looking for how things (DSP effects) are done as well as why they actually work. Background for asking: - In regards to lossy encodings, I've come across many forum posts about masking/etc, but I'd like a better understanding. - Been playing with DSP software (specifically Inguz) - which often have setings like 'Width/Space' and such. Other than listening and guessing and other forms of common logic, I'd like to understand exactly what curves are actually applied to achive e.g. wide, and exactly why they achieve the desired effect. - I'm curious:) TIA. -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87986 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ScanSpeak any good?
The SS drivers are generally excellent. Just an FYI though. How the final design will sound depends more on the system design work (box, crossover) rather than the quality of the drivers.I tell people this every day and they ignore me. ;-) I can take average drivers and make a loudspeaker that is really very decent. The better drivers will buy you more output, lower distortion and sometimes some unique application flexibility but they will not sound better unless the rest of the design is done right. -- Kevin Haskins Kevin Haskins's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30729 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87927 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] RC (Inguz etc.)
I dunno if we're talking about different things or not Phil. Rhapsody is a subscription service, and Touch can access it via MySbs without the PC being on. That's not relevant here though. I had the same problem with the Transporter. Internet streams are not being processed by Inguz at all with the PC running, and even in Proxied streaming mode.nuthin happening. InguzDSP.exe is not invokednothing in the log.txt to suggest Inguz even knows music is playing. What are you doing different?Since 50% or more of my casual listening is done via Rhapsody...I'd like to have my Inguz/AudioLense working for me rather than sitting idle. Right now...Inguz is only processing music taken from the hard drive of the PC. Curt -- Curt962 Transporter...TouchBoom..
