Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0
Does anyone recall the 2.0 command to turn the screen on after it's been killed? A summary of the commands I know is below: > -unpack tar file: tar xvf touchtoolbox2.0.tar > -Initialize the Toolbox: ttinit > -status tool: ttstat > -buffer setting: ttbuffer > -output tuning: > > 1. for activating the digital output only, type: > ttout -d > 2. for analog out only > ttout -a > 3. for usb out only > ttout -u > 4. for default status - all outputs on > ttout -n > > -WLAN modification: tt --wlan > -Screen-Off modification: ttscreen > -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Jacky, Toolbox 2.0 can be downloaded in section 3.3 of Soundcheck's installation instructions for 3.0. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
I've got a hunch that the VU and spectrum meters are running in the background even when the screensaver (set to "Screen off") kicks in on top of it. They're part of the Now Playing view unless you kill them manually. I don't know much, though. Eager to see if anybody else can hear the difference. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Damn, Howard, just when I think I've got it all figured out :-) I never tried 2.0 w/screen-off. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Mjock, try setting your buffer to 4000 or keep going higher until the dropouts stop. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
Klaus, I just bought you a couple of beers via Paypal. I had the best-ever sound in my system running 2.0. Totally relaxed and free of artifact, grain, or digitalis. I had a friend over for a listen and his first words were, "Oh man, it sounds like vinyl!" 3.0 left me a little cold at first. The sound was cleaner, but thinner and brigher, sometimes glaring, and altogether moving away from the moist, organic goodness I found in 2.0. I had to change PCM bandpass filter settings on my Wyred4Sound DAC-2 from 60 to <50 (passing less information.) I gave up and went back to 2.0 for a week. Yesterday I took Klaus' advice to try to implement the whole shebang. I don't have a smartphone, so I've always used the Touch as my controller had never implemented the screen-off mod. I do have a PC in the room adjacent to my system, so I figured I'd try to screen-off my Touch and use the SB Server on the PC to control playback. It was worth it. I got my richness back and was able to return the DAC-2 to the 60 filter setting to keep the top-end air. It's funny: being able to control playback from the couch, via IR remote to the Touch, has made me into a lazy, worthless sack of crap. Last night I groaned at having to get up, walk 12 feet to the PC, and select the next album. 3 months into ownership of the Touch, I'd forgotten the era of having to walk across the living room (uphill both ways, in the snow, I tell ya!) and manually change a silver disc spinning in a tray. BONUS FINDING: When you factory-reset the Touch in order to begin the 3.0 install, it defaults the Now Playing screen to include the VU-meter and a cheesy realtime spectrum analyzer. Even with the screen-off mod, the touch's processor is running the spectrum analyzer unless you turn it off in the Settings/Screen/Now Playing menu. See if you don't notice incremental improvement after killing them both. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Does anybody remember the command prompts to install and tweak 2.0? Klaus has been kind to leave the 2.0 tar file up, and I want to switch back for comparison, but I'm not sure I'll get the commands right. Thanks in advance. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
Running hardwired, 3.0 installs except daemon killer/screen off/infrared off. Buffer at 4000. Coax> Wyred4Sound DAC-2. I still find the sound just a little leaner and thinner than with 2.0. My DAC has PCM bandwidth filter settings that subtly affect high-end rolloff. With 3.0 I prefer the <50 filter setting, whereas in 2.0 I liked it two notches higher at 60, a wider bandwidth passing more information. Wyred and Rega DAC owners: have you had a similar experience with your filter settings? And, to change the subject: In 2.0 I gave up on using Pandora because selecting it would prompt the Touch to try to find mysqueezebox and run an update, wiping out my 2.0 installation. Is there a way around that now? Can 3.0 and Pandora co-exist? Thanks for any input, and especially thanks to Klaus for helping us work toward a better-sounding world. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

So I am in agreement with some of you. Question: to uninstall the daemon killer, will I need to restore factory settings and start over? I'm definitely keen to tune the system to take it back to the sound I was getting out of 2.0. -- cymbop cymbop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50761 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

First off, I want to thank Klaus for his efforts and for sharing them with the world. I've been delighted with the 2.0 toolbox and feel it's brought by system to a level that I have never heard before. A donation is on the way. I did all the 3.0 installs except screen off, and sat down to a long listen last night. To my ears, I lost liquidity and heft in the mids and lost punch in the mid-bass. Things sounded more digital. I might have perceived more details in the highs, but at a cost it seems. The sound is more brittle. We're talking subtle differences, so I'm going to leave the mods in place to get used to them for a few days.
