Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Active Crossover as plugin or otherwise
If I'm understanding this thread correctly- proposed is the idea of doing a software crossover and then independently amplifying the results? Sound promising. I switched from a mono-amped Linn setup to a active bi-amped some years ago. I have two amplifiers which are modded with hardware cards specific to the particular model of speaker I have. Each amp drives one of the types of speaker cones in the speaker. It works great, and is different as well as better than the mono-amped system. What the software version would be missing, it seems, is the correct and precise crossover profile that is matched exactly to each physical speaker cone in the speaker (as Linn can do since it's all a matched system) -- dizzysnakepilot dizzysnakepilot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32043 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86650 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] What are you feeding your Transporter?
Actually, I saw a post by Sean here telling that WiFi may leak some RF noise into signal... at least in theory, wired connection has an advantage Theory is reality for me- Sean replied to my thread about hearing a clicking noise in my speakers with this explanation. If the RCA cords from the Transporter to my pre-amp pass near enough the WiFi antennae, I hear a faint clicking. I still get this from time to time and have to push the cords around till it stops. My pre-amp is higher on my rack than the Transporter, so the cords go up past the antennae. The sound is loud enough I would imagine it would be easy for anyone to duplicate. It's easier to hear if you turn the Transporter digital volume down and the pre-amp volume up. -- dizzysnakepilot dizzysnakepilot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32043 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80789 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

thanks for the replies. after 15 minutes it started to sound better. that first 5 minutes was brutal. i am not using the crossovers in the speakers. the amplifiers are modified with speaker-specific cards that cause them to amplify the tweeter and other drivers separately. supposedly this is more efficient because the speaker crossovers arent absorbing the amp's power. i got a sense of the attraction of the precision of the transporter- clean, detailed, controlled. but the treble sounds buzzy and my wife pointed out the whole sound is much more 2D where the genki creates an illusion of depth. i will keep playing and listening. its strange to me that solid state devices would be affected by burn-in. -- dizzysnakepilot dizzysnakepilot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32043 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66347 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

If that is the case, you are most probably overloading your Linn pre-amp! excellent thought! the reason i set it to max is because digital attentuation is supposed to reduce the bit resolution. several sources suggest setting the transporter to max and also, with the transporter set to max, the apparent loudness is still a little softer than the genki. that means i am probably ok. however, i can try two things: 1. reduce the transporter volume 2. set the internal transporter attenuation thanks! -- dizzysnakepilot dizzysnakepilot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32043 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66347 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
