I've found something that helps a bit.

If after start up of the Touch, I press play from the Touch IR remote so
that I see this symbol:
21829

Then Display Off works fine after that with the phone app and web UI. No
need to use the IR remote after that initial play.

I've not found another way to solve the issue for any length of time.

Hi Triode,

First of all, thank you for all your work on those nice applets
(particularly EDO) and pointers on this forum.

I am also using your screen off applet and am also running into the
issue of backlit being kept on if the Touch is in any way controlled by
an SB controller or Squeezebox app, that is, the screen remains blank,
but you can see like coming from the screen.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi Triode,

I've been reading about your quest to build quality music, and also came
accross this forum entry.
I've been searching for the Display Off screensaver applet to be
implemented on a Touch-like device, because I think it can serve my
purpose.

As I didn't find it, I reverted to the LMS based powersave plugin from
Jason Holtzapple. This tool works with intervals of 15 minutes, so I'm
consuming a bit of energy with no real need to dos so.
Is the display off screensaver app still available?

So, something to do with the iPad/iPeng commands is triggering the

Hi Triode,

I seem to be having an odd problem with this app. I've installed and
reinstalled it several times. The problem is that each time I install
it, for a short time after installation, the backlight turns off along
with the screen. Then at some point, not long after installation, the
backlight starts remaining on (more obvious at night, of course), even
though the screen turns off. So, I have a glow-in-the-dark Touch.

I have the delay set to 10 sec. and have the screen off box ticked in
Screensavers for all of the states---when playing, when paused, when
stopped. Any ideas as to what's causing the backlight to go off for a
bit and then come back on and remain that way?Thanks...

Yes, and probably set the timeout to 10 seconds. After the 10 seconds
timeout, this will cause the screen to blank by turning off the
backlight and disabling the display in the same was as TT3 and also
stopping the render of the screen which happens within the squeezeplay
application. The later means than if the display would have shown
scrolling text then it will not be updated taking cpu time even though
you can't see it.

Got it...thanks. It seems to work just fine. I do prefer the
flexibility of being able to access the Touch's screen (though I mainly
use iPeng) without needing to give up the potential noise benefit of
having the screen off. This app does away with the slight inconvenience
of having to ssh into tt 3.0 in order to turn the screen back on/off
when I need to get at the Touch's menus.

The lower noise floor at the analog output is only because the dac is
not running - which looks to generate quite a lot of low level noise
for 0 output. When it is turned off then this is much lower. However
I think the impact could be more significant in that with the dac on
at full volume then the power rails are not only powering the dac but
also seeing some level of signal related variation. With the dac off
this is not there and there should be direct no audio signal related
 modulation on the power rails.
