Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Half speed master vinyl
For what it's worth, I don't even find it that distracting, unless the noise level is really high. Analog noise is generally easy to ignore. Maybe that's because I'm so used to vinyl, which is what I listen to most of the time. I'd MUCH rather listen to an original pressing of some old jazz album, with even a good deal of surface noise, than listen to a pristine recent pressing. You just lose so much resolution due to tape age. -- rgheck SqueezeboxServer on a 350MHz Pentium II running Centos 5.x with 1.5TB Transporter -- Adcom GDA-600 -- Pass Labs B1 (DIY) -- Adcom GFA-5800 -- Thiel CS 1.6s Transporter -- Pass Labs D1 -- Pass Labs Aleph 2s -- Thiel CS 1.6s rgheck's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=25803 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71764 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

If you want to hear incredible LPs, try to find some Direct-To-Disc recordings. These are recorded live in the studio IN ONE TAKE, and the microphone feed is sent directly to the cutting head of the LP master. I had lots of D2D jazz LPs. Even had one released by Radio Shack on red vinyl that sounded incredible. -- Pale Blue Ego Pale Blue Ego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71764 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Half speed master vinyl
I bought my first Mofi vinyl yesterday. It is Abraxas by Santana. I was reluctant to pay $30 for a record, but I had to do it once to see how it sounded. I wish I hadn't bought it now. The record sounds incredible! I am now going to buy some more, they are worth the money as long as they have enough songs on them that I like. I just wished they would release some greatest hits records, then they would be a bargain. So if you want to try one out, you can't go wrong with the Santana album that I bought. I haven't tried any of their CD's yet and I probably wont since they cost just as much as the vinyl, and I rather have the vinyl. -- Panotaker Panotaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33482 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71764 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

The biggest problems with high end expensive vinyl Greatest Hits is that most don't sound fantastic in that they didn't have the magic of the actual recording session that an ordinary album can have and most are missing what made that certain session or album sound so great which was the engineer and studio/hall it was recorded in. Most Greatest Hits tend to be the worst albums as they just grab the songs in the format that was popular for radio air play IE no attention to detail or engineering. The only real exception I have found to this are compilations of different artist on one platter from specific high end recording plants like Reference Recording and the like. Most all these type company's pressing are fantastic, so if one buys a Sampler or Best Of RR Artists vinyl then they are great for the most part. And a bit off topic speaking of todays technology.
