This whole thread is bizarre. The only issue here is whether or not your ethernet cable is accidentally causing a ground loop (only possible with shielded cat - which is why it should not be used) or if it is providing a pathway for stray RFI/EMI to enter your DAC - again most likely with shielded cat (via the ground plane). -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... So the cat6a cable sits between the router and the Touch.* *this is how the Audiophile mods suggest you have your Touch set up for best effect, using unscreened cat6a. Does it make a difference...? Now I'm wired and not going back! I have also compared generic ethernet cables from 3ft to 25t. No difference in sound as far as I could tell. I now use the 25 footers. If cheap ethernet cable doesnt sound different over big length differences like that, I doubt there would be a difference in short audiophile grade cat-5. I'm open to be convinced though. I didnt think there would be a difference between WIFI and ethernet. hey, don't knock it till you've tried it :P The best I've heard yet was some fool (apparently an audio engineer by profession before dedicating himself to making hi-fi and speaker stands) trying to tell me that placing my NAS on top one of his sound structures would noticeably enhance the sonic performance of my system. This despite my protestations that the devices are networked and the fact that the NAS and Transporter use my home electrical circuit as a network and are located about 40m apart in entirely different sections of my home.
