Actually, I've clarified the situation a bit with Apple folks and, of course, Slim's friendly customer support: 1. Ideally, one should have one of the new core 2 duo (or whatever they're called) machines with 2ghz. This is because you will run Parallels, OSX and Windows at the same time, all the time. 2. You will use Slim Server with the Inguz plugin in the Windows environment. Okay, we all know that. However... 3. Assuming you're using iTunes, you will need to run iTunes in Windows. This doesn't mean that you can't have iTunes on the Mac side, too; what it does mean, though, is that it is the Windows version that Slim Server will use for organization, etc. That's about it. It's really pretty simple, when you get down to it. If you're like me and choose to use Fuzzmeasure (which is a serious professional measurement program) for sweep measurements, you'll need to export the impulse files (AIFF only) and then use Audacity to convert to WAV for use by Acourate and Inguz/Slim Server. -- highdudgeon Relax. Sleestack;159486 Wrote: But well worth it...in the end you will learn much about your system and room and what really matters when it comes to getting good sound. Most importantly, you will have aural bliss. You can wait years until advanced room correction becomes the norm and completely automated, but I encourage you to do your ears and brain a favor and go through the pains of learning now, whatever your solution may be. I'm actually using the inguz drc right now. I don't have a lot of knowledge, but I got the behavior to change a lot by reading the drc docs and fiddling the config files, and the sound right now is _way_ better than without it. I've been wondering whether or not to learn how to use acourate instead of using the inguz impulseprep utility, but, as I said, the learning curve for acourate looks a little steep to me. I agree with you: drc is pretty amazing. -- totoro squeezebox 3 - mccormack dna .5 - audio physic tempo 4 totoro's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5935 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30255 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Great post highd. Thanks! I read the Acourate website, never heard of them before. If it can come close to the Tact preamp I tried, wow! Does it do time domain adjustments to help with room resonance, or just speaker driver alignment? I couldn't understand half the stuff the website is talking about - I know RC sounds good, but I don't know the lingo. Uli, the developer, is a nice guy and will respond to your emails -- he can address the technicalities in a more satisfactory way. But, yes, the idea is to address time domain adjustments, etc. He was a Tact user and went on from there. I am not a Tact user and won't comment on the relative merits...but drop him a line! richidoo;159295 Wrote: Great post highd. Thanks! I read the Acourate website, never heard of them before.
