Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] REDGUM Amps with Transporter...?
The term normalize usually implies that the audio data is changed to reflect the normalized sound. Replaygain, on the other hand, does not change the audio data. Rather, it writes gain adjustment values to the tags. You can have SlimServer process the Replaygain values, or have SlimServer ignore them. Most of the time the Replaygain values turn out to be less than zero, so if processed the volume will be lowered. That will reduce the signal to noise ratio. In my experience, with my system, in my room, with my ears, I have not been able to detect a meaningful difference. I set SlimServer to use Smart Gain and it works for me. -- jeffmeh jeffmeh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3986 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29053 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] REDGUM Amps with Transporter...?
thanks your comments on my redgum :) I had a guy over at my house, he came with his car filled up with redgum amps starting from yours, the RGi120 up to the big mono blocks RG300m... I heared them all on my transporter through redgum then into my infinity kappa 8.1i I had two friends over at my house, who know my sound well. Before I had an old but well known harman kardon PM 665. when we started with the RGi120 it already was better than the harman, but not that much I would have thrown it away. But then he plugged in the RGi120ENR signature series (bigger power source, internal double wiring, more caps and other modifications over the RGi120) and we were all saying WOW !! we always listened to the same songs I carefully picked before the session. the mono blocks where tooo revealing and the highs were to aggressive in my opionion (at least on the infinitys). so I picked the RGi120ENR and I am more than happy in every way. 2 weeks ago I have been to a high-end store in stuttgart, germany. there I went to listen to some serious speakers directly connected to my equipment (transporter, REDGUM RGi120ENR and all REDGUM cables). first speaker: new BW Nautilus 803 D. awesome. no contest. but after hearing about two hours, we put on the BW 802 D. really again another dimension!!! this is my favourite speaker so far (quite expensive though). this was just the sound I always dreamed of. no matter what music you but through the combo, everything was just incredibly good. after the BW 802 D we had an ISOPHON arabba speaker on the equipment, but this was no my style at all. I want that BW 802 D to be mine NOW !!! let's see what the future brings. but anyway - I bet you have to search a long time and waste tons of money to get such a great amp like the REDGUMSs! knowing the only consume ~7 watts when playing loud, it's just more incredible! Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] REDGUM Amps with Transporter...?
Hey, truckfighters. Yeah, I can't say enough positives about my REDGUM. I've been extremely impressed with it. So much so that I sold off my YBA which is an exceptional integrated itself but a clear notch below the REDGUM. Like you I am in the process of auditioning speakers to pair with the REDGUM. I have yet to audition any BW speakers with it though I am heading out to listen to some Ambience speakers (Australian themselves) with it on the weekend. I've heard from numerous people that the REDGUM and Ambience combo is superlative. You might want to check them out yourself. http://www.ambiencespeakers.com.au/ Good luck in your hunt for speakers. -- Pneumonic Pneumonic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10091 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29053 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] REDGUM Amps with Transporter...?
oh sorry, I just measured it. 7 watts when in stand by. about 20-30 watts when playing at normal room volume. please remind there are currently infinity KAPPA 8.1i connected. when I turn it quite loud, it was around 40 watts... my old amp just took 130 watts when there was nothing playing but the amp on... will check out your speaker recommendation... thank you! the main reason why I took the RGi120ENR over the RGi120 was that the RGi120 had to less control over the bass of my infinity speakers. there my old amp had an advantage. but the 120ENR is a different story... bass mids heights, everything under tight control with an upon sound stage I never ever heard before... even the guys at the high-end studio where very much impressed and some of them said, that he only knew that kind of sound from very expensive systems... they used CLASSÉ CD-player, pre-amp and double mono-amps to drive the BW 803 / 802 D before. then I came with transporter (playing WAV ripped with EAC secure mode) and the REDGUM RGi120ENR and they were just stunning. that gave me a good feeling about the amp. they for sure never heard of redgum before ;) -- truckfighters Transporter - REDGUM RGASIL - REDGUM RGi120ENR AMP - REDGUM LS Cable - Infinity Kappa 8.1i - Live! truckfighters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7852 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29053 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

why not use flac / APE? well I am still a little worried that some day someone will come up and say: haha, I found a small bug in the FLAC algoryhtm which causes... I already did some audition tests between WAV / FLAC with sennheiser headphones and I was not sure that the conversion did not alter the sound. so I will stay with my wavs till I find some more time to investigate again. surely wavs take a lot of space, but so does flac,,, never mind :) -- truckfighters Transporter - REDGUM RGASIL - REDGUM RGi120ENR AMP - REDGUM LS Cable - Infinity Kappa 8.1i - Live! truckfighters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7852 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29053 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] REDGUM Amps with Transporter...?
well as long my hard disk space won't fill up, I'll stay with WAV. I also am afraid of some little fault in yet another conversion... since I heard my WAV-files on one of the best speakers (BW 802 D) with my equipment connect to it, I know that at least my files are super correct :) when I did the comparisons, I have to admit that I accidently had normalize on the slimserver enabled. and I was pretty sure the altering of normalizing process + FLAC (tried different compressions) was somewhat audible. since normalizing lies in the past now, I should do the test again... three questions to your impressions: the normalizing process does alter the sound (high-end), right? it was clearly audible to me. although I have no experience with replay-gain features... what about the crossover-mix function in slimserver, does this also impact the sound? I think NO. maybe in the 5 seconds when mixing though...? and finally the spectrum-analyzer (both screens transporter), does this alter the sound? in my opinion NO (did several test with the screen saver on and off). -- truckfighters Transporter - REDGUM RGASIL - REDGUM RGi120ENR AMP - REDGUM LS Cable - Infinity Kappa 8.1i - Live! truckfighters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7852 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29053 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] REDGUM Amps with Transporter...?
Sorry I'm late to the party here. Truckfighters you're REDGUM is very nice looking indeed. If it sounds anything like my REDGUM RGi120 I'm sure you are in sonic heaven. My RGi120 displaced my trusty ole YBA Integre DT. I have paired my RGi120 up with numerous speakers and it has sounded awesome each and every time. It sounds best powering my Martin Logan Sequel II's where the combination of very revealing Logans coupled with very neautral REDGUM amplification is something to behold. My digital source with this setup has varied from modified Sony SCD-777, Roksan digital separates thru to a stock Squeezebox 3. Expectantly the Squeezebox was the least impressive source of the 3 but still very good. It's a shame REDGUM isn't more well known for they have incredible products. And the REDGUM company is a pleasure to deal with, especially Lindy Gerber. -- Pneumonic Pneumonic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10091 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29053 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
