Assunto: [AZORES-Genealogy] Parents Names??

Hello,

I am looking at a Baptism record from 1895 for Evangelina Moniz Pacheco from
Furnas and it looks like there are names other than her parents name on the
record. Do you know if her grandparents (specifically on her mothers side)
would also be listed on the record??

Thanks

Krystal

FamilySearch.org has early from 1762 for Recife City, Pernambuco State and
Salvador City, Bahia State starting in 1598. These records are a
Browse type.

Steps to find these records
https://familysearch.org/search
scroll to the lower section - click on Caribbean, Central and South
Americahttps://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1region=CENTRAL_SOUTH_AMERICA
click on Brazil - then select Pernambuco or Bahia or whatever state needed
then click on Browse through XX images do not panic at the number of
images
Then pick the Municipality, then parish, then the record type you need to
look at

Not all records are available for all the time periods.

I hope this helps

2014-01-04 Thread rcapodc
That’s always the problem Rick! For 1709 that record was pretty clear and
easily read. I know that it is hard to read Teixeira sometimes because the
priests usually abbreviated the name. I know that I had one in Norte Grande, S.
Jorge that I just could not make out so I asked Arline Silveira for help. She
looked at it and read it right away! Sometimes you just can’t see it and
someone else’s eyes can!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Lustre: French needles in Portuguese haystacks

2014-01-04 Thread Andrew Rapoza
I am trying (with mixed success) to find the families of *Carlos Lustre* Roza
Adelaide (Carregal) and his brother *Hypolito
Lustre* Maria Augusta Leonardo. The Lustres owned and performed in a
circus that traveled through the islands during the 1850s-1860s. I think
that's why records for them are so hard to find - they keep moving around
with that circus of theirs!

So far I have found two children of Carlos Lustre christened in Madeira in
1863 1864 and the marriage of Hypolito Lustre in the Irgeja Matriz de São
Sebastião, Ponta Delgada in 1858. (Lustre's wife was from the freguesia de S
ão José, Ponta Delgada; Hypolito's wife was from the freguesia de Sé Cathedral
d'Angra, Terceira.)

Fellow researchers, if any of you come across any records for this unusual
French surname - *Lustre* - anywhere in your Azorean searches, would you
please let me know? All help and advice is *very* welcomed! (Maybe will
save me from staying up to 3:00 AM search records, like last night!)

Thanks so much --Andy

P.S. I just *love* the Madeira records website! To me it's the genealogical

Your original question asked about the maternal grandparents of

Manuel de __ Pereira and Angelica de Jesus (de Jesus is on line 12).
Hopefully someone can read that other name. I'm not at home and don't have

Ubirajara,

You may have to login with a username and password at the ‘home page’ of Family
Search. It should be up in the right-hand corner. Pick a username and then a
password. Many of the digital images require that you sign-in. This is
something that is requested by the government of whatever country owns the
books. Try that and hopefully you will be able to see the digital images.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: How can I find the name of my ancestor that came to Brazil

2014-01-04 Thread Kawika322
Ubirajara,

I have a book about the various Portuguese colonies with a map of Brazil
with names of Portuguese people who settled in various parts of Brasil in
the 1600's. If you can provide some surnames or names of your ancestors, I
could see if there are any common names that could match your ancestors.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: How can I find the name of my ancestor that came to Brazil

2014-01-04 Thread Shirl Sereque
Two of my ancestors went to Brazil (probably São Paulo) after 1865.
Salão Benarus Seriqui (born 1850 in Morocco and who later lived in Lisbon) and
David Benarus Seriqui (born ~1850 in Morocco) whom we know almost nothing
about.  He also used the name David Seriqui Benarus.  Both would have left from
Terceira where they lived at the time.
Would the book you have show anything about them?
Many thanks for looking!

Thank you Jeff. The problem in Brazil is: cartórios de registros only have

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] How can I find the name of my ancestor that came to Brazil

2014-01-04 Thread Isabella Baltar
Ubirajara,

When researching in Brasil the best way is the one everybody suggested,
Family Search web site, then to the desired country, state, city and so on.
Any type of research demands a long amount of time, sometimes years, and we
cannot expect that we are going to find quickly what we want. We may find
it or we may not. It took me a couple of years to get to know my family to
the point I'm now. My basic research, to find out about family members I
never heard about before was all, really all, based on researching every
book from Family Search. It wasn't a random search, at least I knew where
they lived as you.

In Brazil, civil documents prior to 1900's usually are hold by the state
historical archives, in your case, Arquivo Historico e Estadual do Rio
Grande do Norte. With exception of Family Search and Brazilian National
Archives, in Rio de Janeiro, the majority of archival documents in Brazil
are not digitized, much less on line.

You can contact Colegio Brasileiro de Genealogia, situated in Rio de
Janeiro, to find more about researching in RGN and researchers in that
area. This is the Brazilian genealogy association with lots of good and
helpful people.

I'm from Brazil and on my blog you will find a link for this and other
places to do your research.
