Doreen,Starting with the side note of record # 33 reads "um parvulo sem nome to sexo masculino" A parvulo without name of the masculine sex"There was a time when a just born baby was called parvulo and the meaning of the word may be interpreted differently today so I will refrain from giving it interpretation.
This is the record for a "rushed baptism performed by Andre Coelho Berbereia" starting on line 4, it reads: "Andre Coelho Berbereia, widower, proprietor, residing in this Parish baptized due to life endangerment an individual of the masculine sex whom he did no name and who was born in this parish"

FYI it also states Andre is a widower and a proprietor.

It appears in the normal format except that the name for the boy is not given. I can't find the word which are in the margin note in my dictionary. May be someone else can recognize the words. I would check the obitos after this date (16 Jan 1884) and see if there is an infant listed with the parents' names.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Lorenzo, Antony

2014-01-27 Thread jane Kelly
Thank you - Anthony married Agnes Eliza McGirty in Sydney NSW in 1874 aged
22 years. The other information I have comes from his naturalisation
certificate on 9 August 1888.
he died 4 April 1905 in Balmain , Sydney aged 54 years, I have the
marriage certificate 16.2.1874 his parents are listed as Manuel Lorenzo (
Sailor) and Mary - rights of roman catholic church. Also have his death
certificate but have not been able to find anything about his parents or
life before Australia

Only references to birth that I have are:
- his marriage certificate -16.2.1874 lists him as a sailor aged 23 years
- his naturalisation certificate - 9 august 1888 - lists him arriving in
Australia in 1861, and advising he is 34 years old, says he is a native of
Flores, West Island, Azores
- his first son was named Antoni George on his birth certificate (
3.11.1877 in Balmain Sydney) and the father is named as Antoni George
Larence - Mariner , aged 27 from Portugal

I do not have a birth date yet - but will shortly visit his grave in
Rookwood cemetery and that might help with a date of birth

Jane,

I've worked with 2 other people who had ancestors from Flores, Azores who
immigrated to Australia or New Zealand. I'm familiar with the databases
available for Australian passenger and shipping lists.
I've checked a number of databases, but none showed a Triton arrival for
1861. That particular year has a gap in the records of ships arriving at
 New South Wales.

The son's name with the de Frayer may give a clue, likely originally
being: de Fraga. Who did Anthony Lorenzo marry ?

Can you give some more information; his birthdate, marriage information ?
With birth information he may be found in the parish baptism records of
Flores at the CCA - azores government archives site

By the way, the year is 1662 not 1652.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with a translation

Your translation is pretty good, you just have the names reversed for some
reason. Keep the name as written, Manoel Viera de Macedo, Property owner.
When you see Receberam, it just indicates the parish where the couple was
received, in other words where they were married.

Hi Pat,

there's a lot of stuff travelling between the local parishes and the
capital. Simply use the site I'm building, and it should be a lot easier to
navigate:

http://tombo.pt

I'd recommend it also for the Azores research. Ever since I started using
my site, I can't get used to the 10-record per page layout of the CCA. It
also shows the NEPS pages for the parish, if that exists. But then again,
I'm biased :) Feel free to reply if there's anything you don't understand.
I have no ideia if the site is easy to use by others, or not.

Hi Pat,

That João Ventura is me. There are many sites, one for each district. And
there's a lot of stuff travelling between the local parishes and the capital.
Simply use the site I'm building, and it should be a lot easier to navigate:

http://tombo.pt

I'd recommend it also for the Azores research. Ever since I started using my
site, I can't get used to the 10-record per page layout of the CCA. It also
shows the NEPS pages for the parish, if that exists. But then again, I'm biased
:) Feel free to reply if there's anything you don't understand. I have no ideia
if the site is easy to use by others, or not.

Thanks Rosemarie,

I'm glad you liked it. I'm not plannig on indexing those 'digital library'
items at the moment. Mostly as there's no easy way to categorize them in the
site. But I promise to think about it somehow.

I'll index the passports soon, and I need to do the same to the 18 mainland
Portugal sites. And there's also the 'de genere' priest applications to be
indexed

[AZORES-Genealogy] Baptism Record-Miguel Dos Santos Simas-Santo Amaro, Pico-2 Sep 1808

2014-01-27 Thread Evee Silva Kiler
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-SR-SANTOAMARO-B-1801-1821/PIC-SR-SANTOAMARO-B-1801-1821_item1/P49.html

I am struggling with this baptism record for Migueltop right record.

There are lots of abbreviations I do not understand.

*First three lines*: I understand that Miguel's mother, Anna Catherina was
single and his father was incognito (unknown).

I think those are names of two individuals between the words incognito
and de funto (deceased), but I can only guess that they are Francisco
Viera da Fraga and his wife ??? I cannot read the name. There is what
appears to be JEM (which also appears in the record below Miguel's). I
don't get that whole phrase between the unknown father and the information
about Miguel's birth date. Who are these people to Miguel and who is/are
deceased?

*Line 5*: I don't know what the words mean right after baptizado and
before O Vigario (the Vicar)

*Line 7*: Is this saying that his godmother is Genovefa Francisca wife of
Antonio Joaquim Albarnaz?

*Lines 8 - 11*: I'm struggling with these lines, too. The phrases seem to
include different words from what I've seen before.

Sobottom line...I don't have much certainty about the record and could
use some (lots of) help. I went out on a limb and included my guesses.

Miguel is my third great grandfather. Full name: Miguel Dos Santos Simas

As an aside, in Miguel's marriage record, his mother is listed as Anna
Josepha, so I'm gathering evidence (practicing reading records) to make
sure I have the correct individual(s). I understand from reading other
posts to this forum that sometimes people are known by different names,
i.e. Anna Josepha in her son's marriage record/Anna Catherina in her son's
baptism record.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Looking for marriage record of Louis de Sousa Theresa Pavao - Candelaria/Feteiras/Mosteiros, Sao Miguel

2014-01-27 Thread Kawika322
I have been trying to find the marriage record of Louis de Sousa and
Theresa Pavao, most likely from Candelaria, Sao Miguel. As far as I can
tell, their first child was Maria Theresa de Espirito Santo, born 8 May
1747 in Candelaria, Sao Miguel. From that record, it states that Louis de
Sousa was from Feteiras, Sao Miguel, and Theresa Pavao was from Mosteiros,
Sao Miguel. I have also browsed the marriage recs a while back in Mosteiros
and Feteiras but did not see anything.

If anyone comes across the marriage record, or has info on this couple it
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
