Hi Lee,

I agree with Linda as far as the bride's father, but I think the bride's
mother begins with an S; possibly Souza? Other than the "o" being closed,
it looks like "Souza" in the bride's father's name.

Hi Lee,

I see the bride's father as Bras de Souza da Mota. Otherwise, we agree.

My impression going through the records is that Xavier is a second name,
but I don't know for sure.

best wishes,

[AZORES-Genealogy] Confirmation of Marrige Information - Ginetes, Ponta Delgada

2015-09-27 Thread Lee
After some searching I found the attached marrigae record for Luis Pereira
and Paula de Sao Thomas (right page)

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-GINETES-C-1747-1782/SMG-PD-GINETES-C-1747-1782_item1/P38.html

I would appreciate a "second" pair of eyes to make sure that I've read it
correctly; as follows:

Married on 28th January 1753

Luis Pereira filho de Antonio Pereira e de Francisca Xavier (maiden name?
or a secondo name?)
to
Paula de Sao Thomas filha de Bras de Souza da Orta e de Maria da Luiza?

Thanks!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Immigration records

2015-09-27 Thread 'John Raposo' via Azores Genealogy
It is the nature of our open society and of our values. We want to know that
people are traveling abroad, but it is none of our business if they are going
to be away for a week or forever. The government does not keep track on people
who decide to leave permanently. Of course, computers can show that John Doe
left the US on January 1st and has yet to return. And, sometimes ex-patriots
still need to file federal income taxes from abroad and sometimes have their
social security and other pensions directly deposited into foreign banks. But
that still doesn't tell you if they are away "for a while" or forever.

The writing on this record more clearly shows their parents as An.to da
Fonseca Saraiva and Catarina Escota Botelha.

Thanks again Denise-- I wouldn't have found this without your help,

Denise,

Thanks so much for your help with this record. The names Saraiva and
Escoto are both new to me. I'll keep an eye out for them in other records
in my search. Many thanks also for looking at the wording in the
dispensation. I'll make a note, and now I can move along feeling confident
that I've got as much information from this record as I can!

with much appreciation,

So I confess I am feeling a little stupid at this point. Grandparents have
passed and I am looking for the records, specifically birth certificates
which will give further names. I have gone to the link below and can't
quite figure out how to navigate it. I always get to where they want my
digital certificate/card, which I don't have. Any help? I'd love to be
able to request and pay online.

The word after Antonio da Fonseca is Saraiva, and it's part of his name. The
word after Catarina is also part of her name, it looks kind of like Escoto. I'm
not really sure.

The wording about the dispensation looks like the standard wording.
