[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with on obit please - Victorina Rosa

Diane,

The record is about the death of Victorina Constancia, married to
Christiano Machado. She was only 24 years old when she passed on 16 of
September of 1853, and was buried at the local Parish cemetery (São
Matheus - Urzelina).

shows the names of her and her husband in any format is the following. 3rd
 par on right.

 http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SJR-VL-URZELINA-...

Her husband was Christiano Machado Pereira. This Victorina seems to have a
different middle name but the rest all adds up - parish etc.  and the names
are relatively uncommon. She had a child in February of 1853 and this death
is in September I think.  Christiano remarried in 1863 to her sister
 Perpetua.

Can anyone please confirm whether this is the likely record I have been
looking for. If not, would it appear in another place when all the family's
 other records are in Urzelina?

 thank you

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Autosomal DNA testing: AncestryDNA vs. FTDNA

I visited the site for Family Tree DNA to sign up, but they only allow
you to sign up if you buy the kit. I've done my DNA with Sorenson

 Paul G,

I don't know what AncestryDNA calls their autosomal testing product.  They
don't have very many Portuguese people over there. So your chance of
 getting a match is slim.

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) is another genealogy testing company.  They've been
around since 2000.  They have the largest genealogy DNA database.  We have
421 members in the Azores DNA project over there and 161 have done the
FamilyFinder test. That's FTDNA's autosomal DNA test.  The Madeira project
has 117 members with 33 of them doing the Family Finder test.  FTDNA
traditionally holds a Holiday Sale in December.  They've been putting
Family Finder on sale for $199 instead of $289 (plus $4 postage and
handling if you are a new customer).  One of the admins will post the sale
when we receive notification of it.

How accurate is the testing?  As accurate as the science behind it.  I've
tried to find AncestryDNA's advisory board and have been unsuccessful.  I
know who's behind FTDNA.  They publish that on their Who's Who page.  They
have a bunch of big name geneticists who are actively working in the field
and publishing research.  FTDNA gives you results for only people you match
based on the current science.  CeCe Moore, Your Genetic Genealogist, posted
in her blog about problems with AncestryDNA. I'd have to look up the URL
for that.  Problems with matches, problems with not even being in the right
haplogroup, people getting back inconclusive results a disproportionate
amount of time (I think FTDNA is about 2%).

Ancestry has a cheaper price than FTDNA.  But you do get what you pay for.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Francisco Ferreira Drummond

2012-05-14 Thread BaltarFamily
Hello Doreen,

Thanks for answering my email. I also have João Ventura helping me. I
know that my ggg grandfather, Francisco Ferreira Drummond had a
brother called José Ferreira Drummond, who as the captain of
ordenances in Vila de São Sebastião, Terceira Island, I don't know
anything more.

He never married but had a child, Adriana Emilia, my gg grandmother,
with Maria Theodora. Adriana had 10 children with João Machado
Valadão, her husband.

I can send you my information to your private address. Just let me
know your email if you want my information.

Isabella

Altares they were from became Raminho.  Joao Ventura did my tree.  If you
give me a little more information I could compare the two.

 Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Francisco Ferreira Drummond

 Hello,

Does anyone in the group has descendents from Francisco Ferreira
Drummond, the historian from Sao Sebastiao, Terceira, and his
daughter, Adriana Emilia Ferreira Drummond, married to João Machado
 Valadão?

I'm a great granddaughter of Francisco Machado Drummond, son of
Adriana Emilia. I'm doing research on this side of my family and would
like to make contact with other family descendents.

 Thanks,

 Isabella

Family Search as added these records and just for the heck of it I put in a
family name as I knew they had gone to Brazil earlier than 1900 and
returned to Lisbon, and, lo and behold, one of them show up on this list
and there is even a picture of her on the card. This was for 1959. Also,
this may be of interest to some: Portugal, Porto, Catholic Church Records,
