[AZORES-Genealogy] AM I FIGURING THIS ONE OUT RIGHT?

my grandmother's grandfather - António Joaquim - was a foundling

when he got married he was listed as a native of São Sebastião

when my grandmother's mother was born he was listed as a native of São Pedro -
same on death record

it's going to be impossible to find a baptismal date for him

my grandmother listed her name in her school book she brought to america as
maria do carmo carvalho luiz

i often wondered where the carvalho part came from

on the first page of the document - four lines up from the bottom - is that
word carvalho?

what is the word before 58 above

is this list about who brought up these foundlings?

wish more info was given

thanks

[AZORES-Genealogy] AM I FIGURING THIS ONE OUT RIGHT?

2016-10-24 Thread mnk
Yes, this lists who raised the child, Umbelina de Jesus and her husband
Antonio Carvalho. Before the 58 is Rosto do Cao, that is where they live. The
index is for Sao Pedro, the number 58 is probably the baptism number or page
number.

Sao Sebastiao and Sao Pedro are both parishes in the city of Ponta Delgada.

The names forth from the bottom are Umbilina de Jesus and Antonio Carvalho. The
word on line 58 looks like and abbreviated Rosto do Cao but I am not sure.

This is a listing of the Baptisms of Expostos (foundlings) The child was given
to Umbilina de Jesus to care for him.
The actual baptism is the record on the lower left side of this image

The baptism date looks like 2 Apr 1838

It was helpful, in discerning a timeline, thank you.

Umbelina is not your G. Grandfather. Based on the marriage record he was
21 years old, which brings the birth year around 1855. The Sao Pedro
Antonio was born in 1839,

I was also hoping to find in the marriage record the name of the care giver
or the exposto number but unfortunately the priest did not list it.

I would suggest for you to have a look at Matriz, Sao Sebastiao index to
see if there are any Antonio's born circa 1855.

Hope you find him.

You should collect all of the children born to this couple, along with
Goparents names. You might find a connection to the people that raised
Antonio if it ends up being S. Sebastiao.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] AM I FIGURING THIS ONE OUT RIGHT?

2016-10-24 Thread Margaret Vicente
Hi Carmen,

The "expostos" records from S. Sebastiao, are sterile and yield nothing
other than a number, with many name Antonios born in 1855 it's almost an
impossibility. However I came across one child named Antonio, who was
Perfilhado (legalized birth rights) in 1881. The parents are Manuel
Carvalho de Sousa and Francisca Ludovina da Conceicao.

Exposto # 724 - baptism/birth record
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-B-1851-1856/SMG-PD-SAOSEBASTIAO-B-1851-1856_item1/P162.html

This may not necessarily be the right person. You will have to collect all
of this couple's children and pay special attention to when the surname
Carvalho comes up. If after 1881 or close to it you may have found your
GGP.
