Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
Hello all, I'd recommend even better than a backup. Get a Dropbox account (use this link, it will give us both a 500Mb bonus: http://db.tt/vhqiAWp ) Then after installing the Dropbox client on your machine, and copying your genealogy files to that folder, simply setup your program to use those files. Dropbox will always make a backup of your files, and it even keeps a 30-day history of them so you can return back in time in case of mistakes... Also, if you use multiple computers, Dropbox takes care of synchronizing the files across both of them as long as they're connected to the Internet, so you no longer have to copy files manually. Sorry if this sounded like a commercial. It just makes my life so much easier, I can't really stop recommending :) Try it, and I'm sure you'll be recommending it to others in no time also. [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
I have been having problems with my laptop the last couple of weeks. It was acting slow and giving me problems navigating in programs. Friday morning when I sat down with my large coffee and turned it on I could not open my programs. I ran virus checks and still nothing. I took it to Best Buy and the Geek squad checked it out and told me that the hard drive was going and I had a corrupted operating system . I considered getting it repaired for $250+ and decided to get a new one. I was not happy because I really did not want to go to Windows 8 and just the work in setting up a new computer is a pain. Most of Friday I spent shopping and got a nice Lenovo laptop So at 7:00 pm last night I plugged in in and started to figure things out my first priority was to get my data from my back up loaded. I have been using a daily backup on an external hard drive and successfully loaded my files especially my genealogy files that I have invested countless days creating. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
Rick, HP just had a sale last week on their Windows 7 computers - I don't now if it is still going on in case anyone else is interested. They must have some understanding to be able to still offer 7 on some of their computers because no one else does as far as I know. I did not want a Windows 8 so I ordered a Windows 7 laptop from them a few months back and I am very happy with it because I can still use my FTM 16 as I installed a 32/64 program for it. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
I considered ordering on line but I could not get on the net and I was not going to wait more than a few days for a replacement and also order something sight unseen over the telephone. I have just too many things I need to do every day. All my programs are up to date so it was no problem there. I am finding windows 8 easier than when I first experienced it last year on my Dads computer. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Backing up data works
Always a good reminder to back up your data. I've been doing it today, too.In regards Windows 7, seems to me it would be no problem to buy any new computer and then buy Windows 7 and install it. It might be more expensive that way, since 7 or 8 always comes free with the system, but if 8 stinks that much, maybe it's worth the extra.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com Original Message On Sat, Jun 22, 2013 at 4:51 PM, Richard Francis Pimentel rfrancispimen...@comcast.net wrote: I have been having problems with my laptop the last couple of weeks. I know there is a big fix for a lot of what people don't like about it coming this fall but I have reached the point now where I have learned to work with it and make it look familiar. Once you get over the tiles and set up your desktop it runs good.
