Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo
So much has happened since this post. It turns out that this lady is my paternal grandmother's sister, so that makes her my grand aunt, and she married my first cousin 3x removed. Once I was able to confirm this, it's been branching out nicely. Monica :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo marriage record. Alexandre and Maria da conceićao
Alexandre's daughter Maria, had my grandfather, Manuel. (Pai incognito) he took his grand mother's maiden name, Revoredo. These records are my family. Took a long time to find this out, but I did. Thanks to this thread, other questions I had have been answered. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo marriage record. Alexandre and Maria da conceićao
Nelia, According to both records above Francisco is the son of Alexandre da Camara, baptized in S. Sebastiao, Matriz, Ponta Delgada and of unknown parents. Fostered City Hall (Camara) children were most often given or took on the surname "Camara". The Name Revoredo could be through Francisco's Maternal side or simply adopted as their very own. Cheri, both are deceased. Antonio Paiva died in 1977 and Agueda died in 2008. If they were alive, I wouldn't be having this conversation. It's not a matter of finding the records. It's knowing if it is the right person to continue. My mom remembered a very specific clue that allowed me to trace my maternal GG grandmother's line. And if you ladies think you are related, you need to get into DNA. Test your oldest family members first (your grandparents, then your parents). There's a sale on DNA until Dec. 31st. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo
Monica, You're not putting all the facts into one email. Agueda Revoredo was born in 1932 and married in 1951 or 52. You never stated that she is deceased, so why don't you ask her when she got married and where? Or better yet, ask her for her father's birthdate. If she doesn't remember does she know something like he was 25 when she was born? Then you can do the math of 1932 - 25 and figure out he was born in 1907 and you can search Capelas. It's online up to 1911. If he were born in 1911, then he was 21 at Agueda's birth. Just search Capelas for every Manuel until you find one with a Revoredo and ask Agueda if that's her father. You can access Capelas here: http://tombo.pt/f/pdl04 Antonio Paiva - is he alive? He is kid number what? If he happens to be kid 10, you might be able to find his parents' marriage in Ginetes before 1911. http://tombo.pt/f/pdl09 If he's kid #2, you are out of luck. I haven't heard of anyone being successful in having a church search for them. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo
Hi Monica, Without dates, I have to take guesses. Someone married in the early 50s could be born in the late 20s or early30s. Her parents: Born about 1900 (those records are online). Her grandparents: Born 1870s (those records are online). Her greats: Born 1850s (those records are online) Her 2 greats: Born 1820s (those records are online) I assumed 1 generation = 25 years since not all information was given. So if you are after your mother great-great grandparents, you can find it through Tombo.pt Cheri Mello Listowner, Azores-Gen Researching: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente, Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo
Hello Cheri, I should better explain. She knows her grand parents, it's her GG grandparents so her baptism record won't do me much. My uncle is still there. Maybe my mom can ask him to pop over to the church for my grand mothers baptismal record or her marriage certificate. I would be hoping to see the full names, if they are in the same format I have been researching. She was married about 1951 or 2. My mom was born shortly after. Thanks for all your guidance. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo
Monica, I have no idea of the age of the subject in question. I'm guessing she's probably born within the last 100 years. The church would have her baptism. I'm not sure if the Civil Registry lists the grandparents or not. I think they might, but I have not seen a recent (within the last 100 years) Civil Registry birth. She could write to the church where she was born and ask for a photocopy of her baptism. I'd make a donation to the church too, for their time. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas
JR, Thank you so much for taking an interest in my plight. I'm very new to all things genealogy so I'm not clear as to the format you are asking. Therefore, I will break it down the best way I know how. My maternal grandmother: Agueda Encarnacoa Revoredo Her parents: Manuel de Luz Revoredo (B unknown, D approx 1973) -Parents unknown and Maria Jorge (B may 11, 1905 to Joao Jorge Vincente & Jacquina de forseca- birth record found in Candelaria) dies approx 1970 My maternal grandfather: Antonio Paiva b 1928 - d 1977 His parents: Jose Paiva (D approx 1958) and Maria do carmo pereira (D approx 1968) It looks like I can go further with Maria Jorge's, but have been focussing on the men. Unfortunately this is all I have to work with. I have notes of researching the area you suggest as I too thought the same thing. But it was not fruitful. I will try again. Maybe for the parents. Capelas is where I am from and everyone died in Capelas. Paiva is from Sete Cidades. Revoredo unknown, and Pereira unknown. Can you say brick wall?? Very discouraging. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas
They are all from the island of San Miguel. The males that I note (Manuel de Luz Revoredo and Jose Paiva), were from Capelas according to my mom. I have checked the records of that parish, Nossa Senhora da Apresentação, which is the one I was baptised in as well. In fact, I have checked all the baptismal records for all of the Ponta Delgada area for these men. The only record I was able to find was Manuel's wife, Maria Jorge in Candelaria. I hope that is clearer. It was my first post and I wasn't sure of the proper protocol. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas
Monica, The title of your post contains the word Capelas, which is probably in reference to the one on Sao Miguel island. In the body of your email, you do not mention Capelas once. You talk about Candelaria. Again, no island. There are 2 Candelarias in the Azores. You need to state the island and make up your mind about which freguesia you are searching in. [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas
I've be scouring the parish records for my great grand parents. I have only been able to find the birth record for my great grandmother in candelaria. Her name was Maria Jorge born 1904. She married Manuel Revoredo who was about two years older than his wife. I can't find his record anywhere. There is also my great grandfather Jose Paiva, who married Maria do carmo Pereira. They had many children, one of them being Antonio Paiva (b 1926) (my grand father), who had tragically died in Toronto. Articles and a book was dedicated to my grandmother after this event. Her name was Agueda Revoredo. Finding records for my father's side has been very difficult. It was suggested that my father, Eduardo desousa, was not the son of the person whom I have always considered to be my grand father as the wedding of his "parents" was after he was born. Also, on my fathers birth certificate, it notes that his birth was registered in 1976, a year before we came to Canada. This is very odd to me as he was born in 1944. He also took his mother's name and not his father's. (All children born after took the father's name) Their names are Jose Rego and her name was Olivia camara de sousa. I know nothing besides that. If anyone has any information, that would be great. Every time another page loads, I tell myself that this will be the page...
