It is information in an email sent to by buy the wife of my match.  She
sent screen shots of the tree on
Ancestry.com and text docs.  I can view screen shots, but not the docs.  I
thought Imight have to do
something extra to my gmail account.

By the way, this match is the one you referred to recently.  Jason Costa
with 209 cns.  I had already made contact and
was waiting for a response.  The first screen shot shows my
great-grandparents.

I don't understand what you are trying to read. The genealogy records are
online at the CCA and are not text documents. I always ask for people to
post the URL to the web site to avoid any problems since we all have
different operating systems on our end.

I like the Google Shortener because of the stats (details) that it
provides.  I can see what topics are more informative by the number of
clicks on the links.  That helps me as a listowner.

There are others besides the Google Shortener.
Tiny URL: tinyurl.com
Bitly: bitly.com
Ow.ly: ow.ly

All of these are free, I believe.  No software to install.  Find your
favorite and use it!

at the end of your url line.  Hover your pointer over that and it should say

H, I can click on the star and it will bring up what IS bookmarked 
already.  I am really more informed on my old explorer toolbars where I 
have a favorites icon on it.  When I added Chrome I had to put an imported 
from IE icon on the toolbar.  I click on that to bring up my bookmarks.  I'm 
not very good at this.   I think I can screw up my computer by clicking on this 
and that --- I actually go to help for many things.

Pam, Just under your address bar line should be, if you check the option to
show on your toolbar when you added the bookmark, some of your bookmarks
once there are to many to show there or if you did not check that option you
can either click on the spot on the right that looks like  and/or click on
the little folder on the right that says other bookmarks.

This is because google has programs that are crawling the web and gathering 
key words from all over the web indexing most pages that are on the web.  
This is a google group and it is automatically indexed by their software 
because it is stored on their computer servers.  


(I started this email a day ago and  checked the list.  So if this is old info, 
sorry)

These crawlers can also be programmed to gather emails, so instead of putting 
your email as b...@blah.com, write it out in words... Blah at blah dot com.  
While sooner or later the crawlers may be programmed to look for that as 
well, it will (hopefully) slow them down.

I have 2 choices for settings on this list.  Private or public.  If this
list was private, I wouldn't have over 860 researchers who have discovered
us.  So it is public.  The Rootsweb lists are public.  Many Yahoo ones are
too (that are genealogy related).

I realize there are new people to the Internet and list-servs every day.  So
if someone publicly posts their address or phone, I remove it from the
archive.  It does not disappear from the entire Internet for a couple of
weeks, though.

However, since this is a public list, and because most genealogists want to
connect with others, I leave it public.  It's up to the user to post what
they want out there.

I get it now.and it all makes since.  I just didn't realize how  the 
Internet is intertwined and so very public.
 
I will be more careful in the future, I don't think I've posted anything  
too personal in the past.  Seeing our conversations on google just caught  me 
by surprise.
