[Bacula-users] Posssible Init Catalog will not delete old entries?

2011-10-19 Thread Pierre Bernhardt
Hello,

the history is I have upgrade from 2.4.x to 5.0.1 step by step incl. the
database.
On 2.4.x I'd run some time the init catalog job for different fd's.

After upgrade I would do that now more like scheduled so I made first an init
catalog
and afterwards directly an Job Level Catalog.

The problem looks like now that there files found from the init catalog job
which
has to been put in the catalog long time ago

Here some messages from the catalog job:
...
19-Oct 00:43 backup-dir JobId 9426: Warning: The following files are in the
Catalog but not on disk:
19-Oct 00:43 backup-dir JobId 9426: /var/lib/dpkg/info/libcurl3.postinst
19-Oct 00:43 backup-dir JobId 9426: /var/cache/man/pt/index.db
19-Oct 00:43 backup-dir JobId 9426: /var/cache/man/fr/index.db

These files are really not on the disks, neighter at init catalog run nor at
catalog
run.

So back to my question: Is it possible, there is a problem with the init
catalog in
bacula which do not delete old files from database at init catalog job?

How can I fix them e.g. manually first? I think it is enough to cleanup
something in the
database to have an work around before I execute the next init catalog job,
isn't it?

The job and fileset definition for the job is the same. The level will be
overriden
by manually modification of the level or by the schedule.

Cheers
Pierre

Any thoughts on the orange light and #2 issue?

A quick google on IBM LTO-2 manual turns up this:
http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/a67ru1ct.pdf

Specifically the part about the error codes says this about the number 2:

/Power problem. The tape drive detected that the externally supplied
power is approaching the specified voltage limits (the tape drive is
still operating) or is outside the specified voltage limits (the tape
drive is not operating). Perform the following action:

1. Ensure that the power connector is properly seated.
2. Ensure that the proper dc voltages are being applied within the
tolerances allowed (see Specifications on page 6).
3. If the proper voltages are being applied but the problem persists,
replace the unit.

The error code clears when you power-off the tape drive or place it in
maintenance mode. /

I would check though if the manual is relevant for your specific IBM
LTO-2 model, but it shouldn't differ too much and I bet the error
messages are the same anyways.

Regards,
Jeremy

Thanks again!

As you can see it completes the label successfully and does read and
write OK. Also I see an orange flashing light with a 2 in the LED
display frequently pop up. Usually running a cleaning tape and a
warm reset with the eject button clears this up for a while but
then it re-appears.

2011-10-19 Thread Tom Plancon

Jeremy,

Thanks for the input. I also found another manual reference here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21417_01/en/CRCM2171/CRCM2171.pdf
This is for a different model number than your reference, but says the
same thing about the #2 error code. I'm not sure what this means in my
case: the tape drive is external with its' own built in power supply.
Maybe my refurbished unit is not so refurb after all!

Thanks again!

[Bacula-users] Looking for configuration advice

2011-10-19 Thread Johnston, James C. (GRC-RXP0)
I'm trying to back up a bunch of computational data - about 16 - 18 TB at the
moment. I'll be backing a single fileserver up to a ~36 TB RAID array
connected to the server via fiber channel.

We add new data constantly but most of the data is pretty much static once it
has been on the system for a week or so. Computational results get dropped on
the server as they are created but these files sometimes will be deleted and
the data re-run as the models are developed. Once the data has been there for a
while it is less likely to change.

I'm considering how often I do a Full backup since even with fiber channel the
backup is going to take a long time. The typical Full on the first weekend of
the month, Differential on the other weekends and Incrementals every night
seems like a lot.

One plan I'm looking at is a Full backup quarterly - starting at 21:01 am on
the first Saturday after Dec 1st, March 1st, June 1st, and September 1st.
Differentials would then be done every intervening month and incremental every
day. I would love to archive data older than 1 year off onto another medium but
have no facilities for that at the moment.

First, are there any red flags I don't see in this scheme and second, how do I
write the schedule to do this?

Thanks,
Chris

I've splitted a 20TB backup into many jobs. I run incrementals between
the full-backup jobs. taking the full and waiting for it to complete
would take way too long without backing up the new data.

[Bacula-users] Need help canceling a job

I tried restoring a file but the restore wanted to mount an offsite

Thanks!

I'm not positive, but I believe that to reference this job by name,
you'd want: RestoreFiles.2011-10-19_11.53.27_04

Not just RestoreFiles.

Also, if you just say cancel, doesn't it prompt you with a menu driven
choice?

Thanks

I use Bacula 5.0.2 on debian stable 6.0.2.

 /data/backup/DB-ADMIN-2011-10-13/
 /data/backup/DB-ADMIN-2011-10-14/

 So my fileset :

 FileSet {

Include {

signature = SHA1
compression=GZIP
wild = /data/backup/DB-ADMIN*/

My problem is that no file match ! I think it's a problem with the
fileset wildcard cause everything (!) else work well. I've tried a lot
of things, read documentation, search on google, etc... I cannot do this

I'm not sure, but this excerpt from [1] looks interesting with regard to
your problem:

«5. When using wild-cards or regular expressions, directory names are
always terminated with a slash (/) and filenames have no trailing
slash.»

So maybe either try

WildDir = /data/backup/DB-ADMIN*/

or try

Wild = /data/backup/DB-ADMIN*

Thanks for your reply!

I've also tried using the full name as you mentioned and I get the
same exact response and the job is not canceled. If I run cancel
without options, I get this:

*cancel
No Jobs running.

Yet, I can still see the job is listed as running in the status output.

I just restarted bacula-sd and that did cancel the job. But that just
seems like hitting a small nail with a 20lb sledge hammer. It also
seems like the wrong solution give that it can affect other processes
too.

I've been looking through the documentation and it looks like it says
I need to perform a mount of the volume before the job will cancel.
That can't be right! The volume is offsite and not available right
now which is why it is waiting on the mount in the first place. While
I can go retrieve the offsite volume and perform the mount, that's a
lot of legwork since I'm not on the same side of the city where my
datacenter lives.

Do I really have to mount the volume to be able to cancel the job? If
so, I cannot make sense of that. Is there another way?
