[Bacula-users] Device "FileStorage" with MediaType "File" requested by DIR not found in SD Device resources.
Hi all We have some problem with bacula. I don't know where the Problem is, because all of our 7 hosts have the same configuration (only different include/exclude file list and hostname) All works fine now for some weeks, but now since 3-4 days we have the following problem, on some of our system (not all, some works): 14-Sep 01:05 lin-backup1-sd JobId 990: Fatal error: Device "FileStorage" with MediaType "File" requested by DIR not found in SD Device resources. 14-Sep 01:05 lin-backup1-dir JobId 990: Fatal error: Storage daemon didn't accept Device "FileStorage" because: 3924 Device "FileStorage" not in SD Device resources. 14-Sep 01:05 lin-backup1-dir JobId 990: Fatal error: Max wait time exceeded. Job canceled. We have setup a cancel after 4 hours, but this shoul'd not happen, because the run of the backup is max. 1-2 hours. We have one Backup Host with one DIR and hone SD Daemon. [Bacula-users] Windows 2000 Permission (or other?) Confusion
Hi, A couple of days ago I installed bacula 3.0.1 on Debian Lenny x86, and successfully ran the first local test job. Then I installed a file daemon on a Windows 2000 SP4 Server, and as soon as I try to run a backup job from that FD, I receive this: win2000srv-fd JobId 41: Fatal error: /home/kern/bacula/k/src/filed/backup.c :948 Network send error to SD. ERR=Input/output error This is with my data directory e:\Share. When I tried to use something from different locations (another directories on the same drive, or some directories from drive c:), they are sent to my Debian bacula server ok, and I could also restore them back to a restore directory on the Windows machine. Tried to make a new file within e:\Share, and it backs up ok. Tried to change all permissions in e:\Share, -- doesn't help. Tried to run setacl: SetACL.exe -on "\\win200srv\share" -ot file -actn ace -ace "n:mydomain\administrator;p:change" -ace "n:S-1-5-32-544;p:full;s:y" -actn clear -clr "dacl, sacl" -actn rstchldrn -rst "dacl, sacl" -log "c:\my documents\setacl\log.txt" It executed ok, but didn't help. Tried to copy the whole directory to c:, and the same effect. The Bacula Service is run by "LocalSystem" user, as are all other system services, and on my Win2000 machine, there is no user named "SYSTEM" to change it to. Tried to run as Administrator but that didn't help, too. Now I'm out of ideas... [Bacula-users] Re: bacula restores
I had the exact same problem, running out of free memory while having 2GB installed, I had to split the backups into 10 separate jobs, where the biggest consist of 3,8M files and 250GB data, and even this takes a lot of time on my dual xenon system with fibre channels and scsi disks, while building the directory tree. (and please notice the problem I posted earlier to day, where File tables was full) Roger Kvam Ryan Sizemore wrote: All, We have run our first full backup of our data server, and we are in the process of restoring the entire system to a temporary drive. Everything is going great, although when bconsole goes to grab all of the files (before we are able to mark the ones that we want), it take 10-15 minutes before we can mark any files. A full backup consists of 803.4 GB and about 10 million file. mysql> select count(*) from File; +--+ | count(*) | +--+ | 9978625 | +--+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) Currently, with just this full backup (no incrementals yet), the size of the database is 1.7 GB. While the query is executing, bacula-dir consumes over 2GB of memory, then the building of the file tree takes another 600MB. We are planning to keep a record of full backups for a year, and with the current growth rate of the database, it will likely get quite large indeed. The foreseen problem here is that as the size of our full backups grow, so will the amount of memory that the queries need to run. This will pose the biggest problem for situations where a use wants to restore just a few files. Also, the current query takes up almost all of the 1 GB of memory plus 2 GB of swap. The system is a dual PIII-800 with 1G of RAM. Are there people out there restoring a similar size/number of files? If so, I would like to hear what hardware you are running. On the other hand, once the file tree is built, marking files is relatively quick. The restore begins almost as soon as the job is started, whereas our current backup manager (Networker) takes over 12 hours to select all of the files it is going to need, then dies because it has lost its connection to the client. So my question to the community is: Is there any way to speed up the building of the initial file tree? Or is there way of limiting the query size? Now I`m really embarrassed, actually ,FreeBSD is protecting itself against runaway processes by allowing maximum memory size for one process to 512MB, I had to increase the maximum to 2 gig by adding kern.maxdsiz=2147483648 to /boot/loader.conf. witch is my physical amount of memory, but maxed out that to, so I had tried another job who only used 870MB RAM. Maybe there should be a warning in the documentation about this problem? I think my job would have required at least 2.3GB memory :D I will divide it now ;) But the error messages from bacula was far out :p "Query failed: SELECT MediaType >>> FROM JobMedia,Media WHERE JobMedia.JobId=2 AND >>> JobMedia.MediaId=Media.MediaId: ERR=Lost connection to MySQL server >>> during query" Roger Roger Kvam wrote: I have tried to run several restorejobs, and every job who is beneth 516 MB i memory consumption is a sucess, every job above 516 crash whith same error message. These sql_create.c error messages also occurs on another Linux client fd, but that client backup succeeded because it did not disconnect from MySQL. What is the problem? Also I've upgraded to MySQL-4.1.12-max from MySQL-3.23.58-fc2 at the beginning of the week. This looks like a Bacula problem though. Pointers?
