The Device Status Part of "status storage=File" prints out the following:

Device status:
Device "File" (/data/backup) is not open.
Device "LTO-2" (/dev/nst0) is not open.
Device "LTO-3" (/dev/nst1) is not open.

I think not, because in the init.d Script i have the following:
daemon /usr/sbin/bacula-sd $2 ${SD_OPTIONS} -c /etc/bacula/bacula-sd.conf
And this config is the correct, with the snipped that i have posted.

After a reboot now all backup jobs have this error, but i don't have changed
anything at the config since some days. (Because i have Input/Output
Errors on Device LTO-3,
but this is another Error but i think problem with the Tape Drive, and i
think not Part of this Problem).

[Bacula-users] Device "FileStorage" with MediaType "File" requested by DIR not found in SD Device resources.

2009-09-14 Thread Roger Meier
Hi all

We have some problem with bacula. I don't know where the Problem is,
because all of our
7 hosts have the same configuration (only different include/exclude file
list and hostname)

All works fine now for some weeks, but now since 3-4 days we have the
following problem,
on some of our system (not all, some works):

14-Sep 01:05 lin-backup1-sd JobId 990: Fatal error:
 Device "FileStorage" with MediaType "File" requested by DIR not found in
SD Device resources.
14-Sep 01:05 lin-backup1-dir JobId 990: Fatal error:
 Storage daemon didn't accept Device "FileStorage" because:
 3924 Device "FileStorage" not in SD Device resources.
14-Sep 01:05 lin-backup1-dir JobId 990: Fatal error: Max wait time exceeded.
Job canceled.

We have setup a cancel after 4 hours, but this shoul'd not happen,
because the run of the
backup is max. 1-2 hours.

We have one Backup Host with one DIR and hone SD Daemon. See config
snipped below:

bacula-dir.conf:
# Definition of file storage device
Storage {
  Name = File
  Address = lin-backup1.intra
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = "pw4backup-sd"
  Device = FileStorage
  Media Type = File
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20
}

bacula-sd.conf:
Device {
  Name = FileStorage
  Media Type = File
  Archive Device = /data/backup
  LabelMedia = yes;
  Random Access = Yes;
  AutomaticMount = yes;
  RemovableMedia = no;
  AlwaysOpen = no;
  Autochanger = no
}

I don't know where the Problem is , because this config works some weeks
but now this Errors :(

Bacula Version: Version: 3.0.1 (30 April 2009) on a CentOS 5.3

[Bacula-users] Windows 2000 Permission (or other?) Confusion

2009-05-16 Thread Jolly Roger
Hi,

A couple of days ago I installed bacula 3.0.1 on Debian Lenny x86, and
successfully ran the first local test job.

Then I installed a file daemon on a Windows 2000 SP4 Server, and as soon as I
try to run a backup job from that FD, I receive this:

win2000srv-fd JobId 41: Fatal error: /home/kern/bacula/k/src/filed/backup.c
    :948 Network send error to SD. ERR=Input/output error

This is with my data directory e:\Share. When I tried to use something from
different locations (another directories on the same drive, or some directories
from drive c:), they are sent to my Debian bacula server ok, and I could also
restore them back to a restore directory on the Windows  machine.

Tried to make a new file within e:\Share, and it backs up ok. Tried to change
all permissions in e:\Share, -- doesn't help.

Tried to run setacl:

SetACL.exe -on "\\win200srv\share" -ot file -actn ace -ace
"n:mydomain\administrator;p:change" -ace "n:S-1-5-32-544;p:full;s:y" -actn
clear -clr "dacl,sacl" -actn rstchldrn -rst "dacl,sacl" -log "c:\my
documents\setacl\log.txt"

It executed ok, but didn't help. Tried to copy the whole directory to c:, and
the same effect.

The Bacula Service is run by "LocalSystem" user, as are all other system
services, and on my Win2000 machine, there is no user named "SYSTEM" to change
it to. Tried to run as Administrator but that didn't help, too.

Now I'm out of ideas... Has anyone suggestions?

[Bacula-users] Delete old job files from File Storage file

2008-02-29 Thread roger . sinel
I have a FileVolume that is full. How do I purge about 50% of the files in
this volume?

This is why I need to reduce the size of the file.
The FileVolume is in a partition that is now full.

No, they both have there own mysql datasbases on each server. One director
has been running for nearly two years. I'am adding another director which
will have a Tape Autochanger attached. I'd like to keep the old directer as
untouched as possible as it's all set up and on a seperate net segment, I
just want to send the data to the new SD. Is this the right choice or
should I just use the new Director?

[Bacula-users] Two Directors - using one SD and one Pool

2008-02-06 Thread roger . sinel
I have to configure two bacula-dir machines to use the same SD and pool.

I'm testing with a File backup pool first before changing to Tape
Autochanger. I'm having a problem that both directors are creating there
own seperate Volumes for there jobs. I want them to use the same pool,
continue writing to the same append media.
Can I add a Pool line to the Storage part of the bacula-dir.conf?

You'll want to show the relevant portions of config.log, which will tell

that conclusion (generally which file it wanted that it could not find).

[Bacula-users] "Fatal error:..is busy writing on .."

2006-09-30 Thread Roger Håkansson
I'm backing up 20 machines over the internet using file storage with
"Maximum Volume Jobs = 1" and have a recurring problem.

Whenever a job fails due to a "network error", the next job finishes
without any problem, but all following jobs (within a hour or so) fails
with 'Fatal error:..is busy writing on "XXX"' where XXX is the volume
name which the finished job was writing on.

So the sequence of events is:
- At 22:00 each night jobs to start backing up all machines starts
- Job 1-(N-1) finishes without any problem
- Job N on client A starts and recycles volume X and starts backing up,
but fails with "Fatal error: backup.c:498 Network send error to SD.
ERR=Broken pipe" and "SD Bytes Written" is 0.
- Job N+1 on client B starts writing on volume X and ends without any
problems
- Job N+2 on client C starts and recycles volume Z but fails to mount it

I needed to split my backups into several jobs, because the bacula-dir
consumed more than 2 gig of RAM,
my largest backup now, is 4,487,947 files, and bacula-dir consumes 1156M
of RAM alone, and you need some RAM for backula-sd, mysql and OS as
well. ( I now have 24 jobs, several almost as large as the biggest)

[Bacula-users] Re: bacula restores

2006-02-01 Thread Roger
I had the exact same problem, running out of free memory while having
2GB installed, I had to split the backups into 10 separate jobs, where
the biggest consist of 3,8M files and 250GB data, and even this takes a
lot of time on my dual xenon system with fibre channels and scsi disks,
while building the directory tree.

(and please notice the problem I posted earlier to day, where File
tables was full)

All,

We have run our first full backup of our data server, and we are in the
process of restoring the entire system to a temporary drive. Everything
is going great, although when bconsole goes to grab all of the files
(before we are able to mark the ones that we want), it take 10-15
minutes before we can mark any files.

A full backup consists of 803.4 GB and about 10 million file.

mysql> select count(*) from File;
+--+
| count(*) |
+--+
|  9978625 |
+--+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Currently, with just this full backup (no incrementals yet), the size of
the database is 1.7 GB. While the query is executing, bacula-dir
consumes over 2GB of memory, then the building of the file tree takes
another 600MB. We are planning to keep a record of full backups for a
year, and with the current growth rate of the database, it will likely
get quite large indeed. The foreseen problem here is that as the size of
our full backups grow, so will the amount of memory that the queries
need to run. This will pose the biggest problem for situations where a
use wants to restore just a few files. Also, the current query takes up
almost all of the 1 GB of memory plus 2 GB of swap. The system is a dual
PIII-800 with 1G of RAM. Are there people out there restoring a similar
size/number of files? If so, I would like to hear what hardware you are
running.

On the other hand, once the file tree is built, marking files is
relatively quick. The restore begins almost as soon as the job is
started, whereas our current backup manager (Networker) takes over 12
hours to select all of the files it is going to need, then dies because
it has lost its connection to the client. So my question to the
community is: Is there any way to speed up the building of the initial
file tree? Or is there way of limiting the query size?

Best Regards,

Ryan Sizemore

You ran into a mysql-limit there. The File Table apparently uses MyISAM
as storage engine and the max-limit there is 4 GB. Fire up
mysql-administrator and change the storage engine to InnoDB then you`re
fine. (On my system i changed all tables to InnoDB - just in case).

My MySQL database is 6.8G, while the File.MYD is 4.0G
My backup with most files are like this:

 FD Files Written:   3,876,210
 SD Files Written:   3,876,210
 FD Bytes Written:   256,133,597,826
 SD Bytes Written:   256,774,755,561

And i got ca 10 similar jobs, I have been running since 9/des-2005
How could this happend?

2005-12-14 Thread Roger Kvam
Now I`m really embarrassed, actually ,FreeBSD is protecting itself
against runaway processes by allowing maximum memory size for one
process to 512MB, I had to increase the maximum to 2 gig by adding
kern.maxdsiz=2147483648 to /boot/loader.conf. witch is my physical
amount of memory, but maxed out that to, so I had tried another job who
only used 870MB RAM. Maybe there should be a warning in the
documentation about this problem? I think my job would have required at
least 2.3GB memory :D I will divide it now ;)

But the error messages from bacula was far out :p

There were no files inserted into the tree, so file selection

Do you want to restore all the files? (yes|no):

When trying to restore from a smaller job, everything works fine:

Have I met any limitations in bacula?

This looks to me like a problem with MySQL. Did you by any chance load
pre-built binaries rather than build on your system. My best guess at the
moment is that Bacula is built with version X of MySQL and you are running
with version Y on your machine. That means that some of the packet fields
have moved or are aligned differently. Rebuiding Bacula from source directly
on your machine should resolve this, if I am right ...

To answer your question. Yes, of course, you can do as many backup and
restores at the same time as you want without Bacula crashing (providing it
is working properly).

Actually, even when there is no backup running, the restore job fails,
anyone have a clue? Did I fuck up the database while trying to restore

[Bacula-users] Warning: sql_create.c:830 More than one Filename! 2 for file:

2005-07-15 Thread Roger Tsang
Hi,

I started seeing these errors in Bacula-1.36.3. I upgraded to
Bacula-1.37.29 and I'm still getting these sql_create.c errors for
blank filename. These sql_create.c error messages also occurs on
another Linux client fd, but that client backup succeeded because it
did not disconnect from MySQL. What is the problem?

Also I've upgraded to MySQL-4.1.12-max from MySQL-3.23.58-fc2 at the
beginning of the week. This looks like a Bacula problem though.

Pointers? Thanks.

-Roger
